How often do you check your accounts?

When I first started out in IM I used to check commission accounts hourly. I get copies of leads emailed to me on submission and I used to click Send/Receive every for minutes. It was like a drug and I needed that fix of seeing money coming in.

Nowadays I am a lot more relaxed about it and do it once a day. How often do you guys check your incoming commissions? Does it drive you crazy?

  • I am not as bad now, but I used to be an "F5" presser. Every time I remembered, I would hit the refresh button to check my accounts . :-)
  • once or twice a week
  • I check my accounts at least once a day. I used to check my accounts hourly when I just started IM and hope miracles appeared lol.
  • I don't check my accounts but daily for accounting reasons. I don't harp on my earnings nor do I use it as an indicator of my success.

    • Well done. Thanks for letting us know.
  • If I didn't have to log in to Paypal to send invoices out to my clients, I'd probably only check it once a week or so. The more often you check your stats, the less often you can be doing things that actually matter, like landing clients.

  • I was a lot like you when I first started checking every couple of hours but now I've been doing it a few years I'm pretty relaxed about the whole thing sometimes even forget to check it for a couple of days.

But nowadays it depends what kind of promotion on doing to how much I generally check it.
  • I usually check my accounts every morning before I do anything else online. Once that's out of the way I can spend all my time on the more important and profitable things that need doing
  • once a day now otherwise your wasting a lot of time that could be used to make more money

Once every 24 hours...i remember a few months ago when i was checking it like 10 - 20 times a day. Sounds like i had some kind of OCD back then!
  • I try to keep it to once a day... sometimes I struggle with that though and just check my accounts because I feel like it

While it doesn't always help productively, to some people, like myself sometimes, it can provide a bit of extra motivation. Whether that be more subscribers in your Aweber account or money in the bank.

  • I check all accounts once a day. Been doing it that way for a long time, so now its a habit.

  • I check my account several times a day. It's fun seeing all those paypal notifications come in.
  • I check once a week b/c I'm not making any money right now.

I check them once every day. Usually before I go to sleep. It helps to get some detailed knowledge of how your projects are going on and how much you earned.
  • Once a week for me otherwise I get side tracked and lose focus as I then end up going to analytics and checking everything out.

  • I check my "main" accounts every morning. Have done so since I started all those years back, you would be insane not to. How else would you know if you have problems?
  • I'm still quite new at this, so I still check every few minutes.
  • Back in 2008 I had email software always opened to press "Send/Receive" button.
Now I check email on the morning and afternoon.

And about affiliate commissions. I check daily to know if something good happens, and to make my invoices just in time.

Thanks so much and see you soon,
    Alessandro
  • It is the same with me now - I am checking my accounts hourly, but thats just coz I am new to IM. Gradually I check them less and less.

    • Nice to see new users (within last 2-3 months) with small post count (less than 30) randomly replying to old threads months old (or sometimes older) adding no value.
      • [ 1 ] Thanks
  • I try to check my account twice a day, if I cannot make it I will at least check it once.
  • Once or twice a day would be enough for me to check my accounts.
  • A Week's time is far enough to check business accounts to evaluate performance. We cannot keep it ignored for a long time say 30 or 45 days, that will not keep us commanding our potential on our earning...

Good thing is that checking it frequently will let you know new things not for your earnings but for conversions too...so keep an eye on accounts, a better option for new marketers & new business startups.
  • hmmmm, i think i check my accounts three to four times a day
  • Have you guys heard of Multifiliate? It's still pretty new but you can add all of your different affiliate accounts and see all of your stats from one single site- they are planning on iPhone and iPad apps in the (not too distant) future too.

Very good idea and it's very useful.
  • Once a day sometimes more. The funnels are in place, the methods are proven so there is no need for me to check my "accounts" hourly.

That said, for products I sell directly I get a notification sent via email every time something is sold, which generally allows me to focus on other things while keeping an eye on how things are doing.

  • I check my adsense account maybe 20-30 times a day with an app from appstore.
I check my leadgeneration stats maybe 10 times a day. (about 40-50 leads a month)
I check my affiliate accounts 1-2 times a day. (Only 4-5 sales a month)

Wish I didnt check so often but I HAVE to do it.. it's like a drug.

  • Once per week should be enough for affiliate accounts
  • My only sources of online income at the moment are fiverr and ebay and I'm annoyed with ebay so for fiverr.. I check it daily just cause I get orders almost daily.
  • Way too often when things are going good.

I'm just wrapping up an application that displays (subtly) all your affiliate/earnings stats (including Warrior+) on the desktop and updates (subtly) every hour.

Not finished with the site but you can kinda get a feel for it here: StatDock - Desktop Internet Marketing Stats

Hopefully I can get it out as a WSO this weekend (for cheap ). I know it'll save me tons of time from checking stats while still keeping me in the loop.

    Have a good one!

  • ONCE aday, that's the best
  • Just before I go to bed Every night and when I wake up in the morning. Nothing better than seeing you have earnt money while you where sleeping, the best type of money IMO.
  • Actually, it is natural. When you have got a new account, you are getting leads, sells and commissions it's a natural human tendency to check the account again and again. I can remember when I got the approval of my google adsense account, I used to check my account 30-40 times a day.
  • I check mine daily, first thing I do when I wake up; Check my accounts, answer some emails, then I go about my days work
  • Once in a week is fairly a good number. Because I know the average income. Just match the perception with the actual.
  • Once an hour.
  • I check mine once a day, occasionally twice ...but once is a better habit
  • I check once a day, and only have to access bevo to see all my stats.
  • Once or twice a day...your right it can get pretty addictive.
Also my emails are all synced to my phone, so that makes
It easier to check my stats & emails.
  • I don't check mine often, but when I do, I tend to like what I see.
  • lol there are some funny replies in this thread.. welll at beginning I checked only when I have an email notification as I usually send a personal welcoming message(no autoresponder).

But with time; i got my sales team and account managers.. they do their jobs. I only check all once a week before having a weekly meeting with them..

If you are new to IM; checking your balance and other accounts frequently might be hazardous to your motivation... If you do not see money or leads coming in; you just lose the motivation of continuing.. thus changing to another more promising method... again and again... that is a very vicious circle
  • Too often.

    • Sometimes, I check several times a day, but then I remember that a watched pot never boils. Or whatever that saying is.

It seems that good things are more likely to happen once I back off and actually do something productive.

Later, when I check back, I often come back to some sales ;-)

  • I'd have to say once or twice a week. I used to check them every day but it can be rather uninspiring if you don't notice any sales so it's better you get motivated and get on with your work rather than sit there constantly checking your stats...

    Paul.
  • I checked my account every morning, so it could make my day or break it XD
  • I started to check every few hours but now change to once per few days.
  • Its an interesting topic, in the begining I used to check my accounts very often to confirm earning but today some time I check my accounts more than often but to check how my keywords are doing live.
  • I know exactly what you mean! I used to check mine like 30 times a day haha.
  • All the time.... I have some discipline now, but if I get bored I go in and have a peek. It is way more addicting when you have results pouring in instead of offers.... Ahhh the good old days.

  • I do this most of the time to see my adtrackz report to see which sources are driving in traffic and top converting sources and lead page conversions. Because once this puzzle is solved making money becomes a piece of cake...
  • haha, i use to check my accounts upto 10 times per day, i have mellowed a little since but i still get a thrill each time i go to check and something has changed. It's why we do it
