If you use vWorker to outsource it, there is an NDA option that you can force people to agree to before they can see the details of the work to be done. I used it the last time I created a plugin, last summer.

  • An NDA isn't going to do you any good unless you have the resources to prosecute. If the guy is in another country, it may not even hold up. Find a reputable outsourcer by looking at their feedback and previous work. If you are still not sure, then ask for some references and check them out until you are sure. Then make sure you give clear instructions on what to do or you may not get what you thought you were getting.

I am not say don't get an NDA, I just think they are not as valueable as we might think, unless we can follow through with them. I think is better to do your leg work up front. I am not a lawyer, so if you need legal advice go find one.

That's great advice, actually. Maybe Kindsvater will chip in on this...he's the resident lawyer here in the forum. I bet he'd know a thing or two about this.

You can divide the work and give it to multiple providers and use a third provider to integrate it accessing your machine through LogMeIn or any other similar desktop sharing software.

It's perfectly valid to have this concern.

Though, I wouldn't bother with an NDA, personally. Unless you're a funded start-up with an amazing idea that you're going to outsource to a development team that could actually execute on your idea.

          Just get the plugin built.

If you hire a very low level programmer, you have nothing to worry about, as they don't normally have much in the way of business skills.

If you hire a more westernized programmer (more expensive), you should make a point of choosing someone you trust. Look for the same qualities in a programmer that you would want in a friend.

          Done.

Never had a problem with outsourcers, personally.

People whom you outsource too don't normally have the entrepreneurial mindset. They are perfectly happy to be doing work for others for a fee, and that's good for both parties.

Don't let an NDA become a hangup for your business.

An idea is worth exactly $0 unless action is taken. Any of these programmers could make your product, but they choose not to.
