Spammy Unsolicited WSO Offers Increase

One of the good things about the Warrior Plus and JVZoo affiliate platforms is they require product vendors to approve affiliates AND the owners of both platforms are very responsive and will do their best to help with issues like this.

The easiest way to minimize this problem is to report the affiliate link to the relevant network. If you can provide proof they are sending the affiliate links in spam emails then they will more than likely have their affiliate account shut down.

You are never going to totally get rid of these idiots but taking away their income source is the quickest way to make things hard for them.

Good work marking them as spam.

One important thing to do is not buy from these links. You may be interested in that particular wso but make sure you buy it from someone else's affiliate link.

People spam for a reason... they make money out of it. If everyone refused to buy form spammers then spamming wouldn't exist.

I think it's likely that some idiot has set up a course or tutorial which teaches how to do this.
They get hold of email addresses of warriors who have purchased WSO's in the past and sell them to these people.
What makes it so much more crappy is the spelling and grammatical errors in the emails.
I know we're not all native English speakers and can't expect everyone to be English language experts but if they knew how bad it looks in spammy emails they might put a little more effort into making the emails at least readable!

I've been hounded with numerous emails like this, 46 so far today, and the day isn't over yet.

I always mark the date and white list the addresses and domains from the double opt in emails when I sign up for a list, so its easy to check names and addresses I don't recognize.

When I do receive spam from people who didn't have permission to email me, like today, I not only mark them as spam, but I typically report the sender to
the email host, domain host, ISP and the IC3 if necessary (only if it doesn't stop), one by one until it stops. Then, I let the sender know they've been reported. I rarely get email from the same spammer twice.

It's a lot of work, and its harsh, but we have laws for a reason. Every single email like these are breaking CAN SPAM laws, not to mention a few other laws if money is exchanged, and in the US, breaking these laws is a federal crime.

I'm all for making money online, as I work online full time, but I'm all about ethics, too, and spamming to sell a WSO or to otherwise make money is definitely unethical.

I know I might still be considered a noob in this forum, but believe me when I say that we, as Warriors, need to lead by example and spamming is not the way to do it.

I did read the page again as you suggested and as far as I can tell, I haven't reported any email that didn't break the rules. Maybe not every email you've received is spam, but every email I've reported was spam and violated at least one, and in many cases more than one, of the rules listed on that page.

In fact, I received three more emails, all violating some form or another of the CANSPAM rules including not having an unsub instructions, not having the physical address listed, header info not matching the from info, deceptive subject lines, etc., etc.

Did you know that for each verifiable spam email the sender and sometimes the company making the product promoted in the email can be fined up to $16k for each separate email and, in the case of WSO spammers, the WSO maker could be held responsible even though he or she may have had nothing to do with the spam? That is listed under the questions titled,

"What if the email includes information from more than one company? Who is the "sender" responsible for CAN-SPAM compliance?" which states that, "If the designated sender doesn't comply with the responsibilities the law gives to initiators, all marketers in the message may be held liable as senders. "

And... "What are the penalties for violating the CAN-SPAM Act?", which states, "Each separate email in violation of the law is subject to penalties of up to $16,000, and more than one person may be held responsible for violations. For example, both the company whose product is promoted in the message and the company that originated the message may be legally responsible."

In any case, thank you again for pointing out my mistake. Spam is what it is, and I will continue to report those who are violating the rules.

Those "wannabe Internet Marketers" are just like you trying to make it in the internet marketing game. So why hate on someone who is actually trying to make something happen?

I agree with you though that some of the offers are spam, and it's clear as day. But everyone goes through learning experiences. The longer they do it, the better they will get. No need to down talk anybody for just trying to make their dreams come true...

Most of the "gurus" who are out there to "help" you, are only "helping" you to help themselves make more money and not giving a damn about whether you succeed or not. If you read a lot of the WSOs out there nowadays, you'll see ways to "brainwash" your subscribers instead of providing them with quality information that will actually help with their struggles or whatever it may be.

Thankfully, there are still some genuine marketers out there who actually want to help and make a difference in peoples lives.

We down them because they know what they're doing. They're SPAMMING. There's laws in place for this for a reason. It's annoying and shady....so yeah. It needs to stop.

However, I do agree with you about the "gurus". We need more people like Alex Jeffreys and Dean Holland. They're honest and teach incredible things to their students.

Any form of spamming regardless of the believed justification is still spamming and these people wouldn't like you spamming them....Or maybe you are one of them?
Yes. We're all in it to make a buck but not at the expense of other people's inconvenience and annoyance. It's against all accepted IM rules and shows a complete lack of integrity and consideration.
Just look at the other comments in this thread!
No one likes spam and anyone who has been in internet marketing for any length of time will not buy from them and like Jivens said, there are laws against it for a very good reason!

This OP cought my attention because I was about to write about the exact same thing, sooner or later.

During the last 30 days or so I've been also getting wso promoting emails from total strangers, obvious spam. When I scrolled down to the bottom of the message to see who is sending it, there was either no name at all (only 'talk soon' trick) or some totally unknown 'Jack'.

I really don't know how those guys got my email address, but I believe that it was sold to them by somebody.

I simply don't understand how those spammers can believe that people are going to accept them as regular senders even if they come uninvited. At least that must be what they hope for.

One thing that was good in this case was that they included a regular unsubscribe link. That makes me believe they are forum members who didn't dare to send 'real' spam emails with fake unsubscribe link or no link at all.

The intention isn't to change your email address. The idea is to change the way you SHARE your email address online. Jaryl's suggestion is to share your email address in a format that's not so easily scraped by spam bots. See his example about how to turn a gmail address into something not quite so obvious to spam bots.

Yes, that is what I meant.

I was a member on a forum completely unrelated to IM, and I've left my emails on some threads on several occasions.

It didn't take long until I was getting plenty of spam from people promoting products in that specific niche.

How these spam mailers acquire your email is by scraping a huge chunk of them using specific Google search parameters with a scraper bot.

For example, if I wanted to acquire a huge list of Gmail users from the WarriorForum, I could do so with something like this:

site:warriorforum.com "@gmail.com"

The best thing you can do to stop yourself from getting spammed is to treat your email with care: don't put it everywhere on the net for people to see.

I have also been receiving WSO offers from people I do not even know, for example a popular WSO offer recently involving a backup solution for wordpress I received offers from 7 different promoters, Now, only one of them was someone that I actually purchased a WSO from in the past, so....

Who is at fault here? Me for buying from a WSO offer and expecting that my email address would not be shared out or sold to exchange lists?

Or the WSO seller, who apparently has no scruples or compunction about sharing my private information with tons of other people.

(Under the Banner of an exchange or other methods of list manipulation)

Now I have to tell you this I may never buy another product from this guy, simply because I cannot trust him, I just have to ask was it worth it.

To trade my email, (which I use only for business) and for what, a few clicks on someone Else's list?

That is what I do not get, has common sense just abandoned the cranium space of these WSO sellers?

That is ODD. Normally, maybe a list owner would to an ad swap, but giving your email address out is a big no no. You should find out if it's him. That's just bad business AND incredibly inconsiderate.

Agree. I notice that it's the email addresses that are easy to find on my wso's, like support email addresses. I'm getting more and more of them, unfortunately.

I doubt that's the case, or at least not much of it. A large chunk of the WSO-related spam I get goes to an address that has never been used in association with any order, online or off.

It rotates through different "From" senders every time. If you hit the unsubscribe link, they just change the details so it looks like someone new is spamming you. I'm not sure if the source is a pure spammer, or an "ESP" with extremely sloppy list import rules.

For every spammy WSO email you get, copy their email address and block the email. It wont stop the spam emails from coming, but you'll reduce the amount of crap coming into your inbox.

A good tip I heard about one time...

You can find out who's selling your email address pretty simply. When you opt in to someone's list, just use the name of the person who's list you're opting into.

So if you're opting into John Smith's list, you put John Smith as your name.

When you start getting emails from randos and they're all calling you John Smith- you know who gave away your info

You buy a wso, you sign up for updates, you get hammered with emails about other wso's and finally some are also doing ad swaps with others outside the forum. If you unsubscribe you lose access to updates....I always thought using a list for purposes other than hat got me to sign up to the list for (updates) was spam.

using the name field as the identifier for the list/marketer is fine, but most genuine spammers aren't going to input or use the contact's name. they usually only go with the email alone

protip: register a new gmail address. When/if you purchase a WSO or opt-in to a marketer's list, either because you're genuinely interested in their content or because you want to spy their funnel, append the email address with "+NAME"

ie: mynewemail@gmail.com becomes mynewemail+WFerList@gmail.com or mynewemail+WSOTitle@gmail.com, etc

if you get unsolicited email from an unknown source, view headers and you'll know who sold their list or allowed their data to get hacked.

Marking those emails as spam is hurting JV Zoo and Warrior Plus more than the spammer. The spammer just changes addresses but the links inside the email will sooner or later be considered a spam source.

Reporting them to the proper affiliate network and getting them banned .. at least to me is the better solution as neither of the mentioned programs condone or promote spamming as a promotional avenue.
