24 Reasons I Enjoy Being an Internet Marketer

Hello fellow Warriors!

I thought it would be fun to explore some of the main reasons we all enjoy being internet marketers...

I thought it would also provide some inspiration & extra motivation for those who are looking to enter into IM full-time, but just haven't quite been able to get there yet...or those who haven't made any money online (yet), but want to know some of the benefits (from the viewpoint of real marketers) of starting an internet business.

Of course it isn't all fun and games (a lot of hard work is involved), but it beats the heck out of a 9-5 job sitting in an office!

So I'm going to start off with 24 Reasons I enjoy being an internet marketer (Why 24? I don't know...just seemed like a nice number to me):

1. The ability to take a 2 hour lunch break (and not have a boss yelling at you).

2. Jammin' out on iTunes while getting some work done (no hard rock while I'm working...just some steady background music).

3. Went to play golf with my wife on a weekday (after completing my tasks for the day of course).

4. The guy that was mowing my lawn this morning told me "You Got it Made." (He doesn't see how hard I work behind the scenes...all he sees is me handing him a check at 10:30am with my shorts & tee shirt on).

5. Eating breakfast with my dad anytime I want (we are very close).

6. Building relationships with other like-minded marketers online.

7. Not having to get up @ 5:30am & sit in bumper to bumper traffic before the real work day even starts.

8. Coffee just tastes better in my home office...I can't explain it.

9. The pastor at my church needs some help setting up for some type of event? No problem...I'm glad to be there and work before or after.

10. If you take action on the right things you can make a great income (but don't expect to be lazy & get it handed to you on a silver platter).

11. None of my family really understands my "job"...so I get to talk about other stuff with them, and not work.

12. I can obviously work my own hours...I couldn't sleep last night, so I worked from 12-2am. Much more productive than watching TV.

13. No one else tells me what I'm worth...the more productive I am, the more money I can make.

14. Did I mention the 2 hour lunch?

15. I flat out enjoy it...what's better than helping other people solve their problems & getting paid for it?

16. When I need a few minutes to think, I just grab a golf club and start practicing my golf swing (some offices would frown on that).

17. I can work from anywhere...my wife & I went to St. Augustine, FL a few weeks ago, and I literally worked from the beach (I know it's an overused stereotype, but it's pretty cool when it actually happens.)

18. I'm pretty sure my dog loves me more since I'm home most of the day.

19. If I have an emergency, I can leave my work most of time at the drop of a hat, and resume later.

20. I've had many people say to me "dang, wish I could make a living on the internet!" Kinda cool when people are a little jealous of you (aww shucks..).

21. I call the shots...

22. I don't dread Mondays at all...I can't explain how awesome this is to me.

23. I really love this forum...I've learned a lot, and hopefully contributed some good information as well!

24. Life doesn't suck when you wake up every morning (at no previously appointed time), and enjoy what you do.

I could go on & on...but I want to hear what others have to say. So, what are some of the main reasons you enjoy being an internet marketer?

I enjoy IM for many reasons you've mentioned already (I'm not a full-time IMer yet.)

I really love IM because of the low start up costs, abundance of free/ cheap resources, and the ROI is crazy relative to a B&M business model.

IM rules - I'm glad the rest of the world doesn't understand what we do; more niches for us to dominate!!!!

You make great points about both the low start up costs, and the fact that the ROI can be absolutely phenomenal when compared to a traditional brick & mortar business.

I put this list together looking at more of the freedom/lifestyle side of things...but I also realize there are a lot of business advantages, like the ones you have mentioned above.

I know we can come up with a few more...what else can you add to this list Warriors?

Do we get a secret decoder ring, too? Yes, that's exactly what I feel like I need sometimes -- a secret IM decoder ring. Fun stuff, this IM.

Good read. Nothing can be much better when you're your own boss. You can be lazy and upbeat whenever you want. You can hear and read great ideas in the open. In the world of employees (I don't have anything against them though), you got to be very close with your immediate superior to learn things that only the higher-ups share with on their close-door or synergy meetings.

The money is the only motivation I need. You bring up a good point about commuting; many North Americans spend more time in their vehicles driving to work each year than they do on vacation.

    Great list, well thought out!

As for me, money isn't the motivator. I've been making a very decent living online (not necessarily doing "Internet Marketing") for some time now and here's what matters to me the most - freedom. Freedom to work from anywhere, at any time.

I love not having to "go to work" every day. I enjoy my work, so I don't really feel like I'm working (most of the time). I don't have debt (freedom). I have over a years worth of average full-time salary in my savings account and no serious commitments. No kids, no mortgage, no loans. It's a great feeling.

My second motivator is success. Seeing a new project take off, getting positive feedback from clients/customers, etc. Knowing that I helped someone in business or personal life makes me feel great.

^^those are pretty common motivators, I know that.

While money is one of the motivators for me, I definitely agree that FREEDOM, and not having to "go to work" everyday is definitely something you just cannot put a price on.

I love the fact that I create my own schedule...sometimes that is working 12 hours a day, and on other days it may only entail checking emails, etc.

Living on your own schedule and not someone else's is very liberating...and just one of the many reasons I love this business!

It's true that if you don't have a boss to set you a timetable you can wake up whenever you want and do as many breaks as you wish. This is a huge advantage.

So true. Even though most 9-5'ers here get 4+ weeks off every year, the point still stands. I take at least 2-3 months off per year (combined), but when I work - I really do work. Not just sit around desperately waiting for the clock to hit 5pm.

Exactly...an internet marketer who focuses on creating systems that can sell can definitely afford to take more time off. The real secret (although it isn't much of a secret...is it?) is to work productive hours...I know I can get more done in 10 hours a week than a lot of people can in a normal 40 hour work week.

So aside from all of the awesome advantages the freedom provides, what are some of the business reasons that you love being an internet marketer? Would love to hear what you guys/girls have to say about it...!

Great list and motivation for beginners like me.
It is really good working on your own time. You are able to spend time with the family.
You can easily attend on any emergency that arises.
I like the part where you can bring your work with you.
Not to mention, you're your own boss.

The advantage is that once work and earn more over time.
For example, create a blog, the positions on google and then continue to make money without doing almost anything.
Then you can spend time to grow the business. I love this work.

Great point Steve...being able to setup residual income streams so that you can work on moving your business forward (as opposed to getting consumed with day to day tasks) is very important, and yet another reason that I really enjoy internet marketing.

I'm sick to the back teeth with all these negative threads - with people whining and moaning!

I have to agree with you though, the day that the whole IM thing clicks and you finally know you're going to be successful, is a great, great day.

Nothing like being your own boss. I probably work more than I would a a 'regular job' but seeing as it's doing something I love - I don't really care, it makes me happy.

Yeah it took me a while to realize "that i was just making someone else rich". I figured "Why not make MYSELF rich? And I can volunteer and give BACK to my community". When I came to realize that I could do this, my whole life changed.

Not having a boss you say? And at the same time you talk about your wife... Hmmm, there's a trick I definetely should learn

What I like most is no longer those traffic jams, bumper-to-bumper driving for an hour or so, going to a boss that never is satisfied and treated me like a disposable (quite an understatement) and who refused me pay raises even if I made LOADS of money for him.

Nah, that divorce (separating income from 9 to 5 jobs) was a good one, even though (as you said also) people around me don't understand.
Last week I had a talk with somebody working for the social security dept. in my city, telling them how their clients could make some extra money on-line. She looked at me as if I was an alien from some far away planet.

And when you hustle and work late - because a project has to be finished, you're not bitter about it.

Don't have to worry about going to a deadbeat office early in the morning... being in IM prevents absorbing morning breath from others :p

Nice list. I do feel bad for my friends cooped up inside all day that can't take a long break outside.

But just remember...... Working for yourself can also be the hardest job you will ever have. Sometimes I envy people who have a set work schedule and know they are getting paid $x by just showing up every day.

What makes a "real" job hard is relieved by working for yourself. Yet at the same time, what makes working for yourself hard is relieved by working for the man.

Overall, I think it all evens out.
