Moving Website to New Domain

I have an internet marketing blog that is beginning to grow and I think it will really take off soon. I'm not crazy about my domain name though. I really need to find something more "brandable", so to speak.

If I find a better fitting domain, should I move the site using 301 redirects or would I be better off just leaving the blog where it is? Anyone had luck moving an established website to a new domain?

Justin, it depends on the blog software you're using to how easy it is, if you're using Wordpress it's pretty easy to move. Regardless, if you back up your blog with any software, you should be able to move it fairly easy.

If you're asking because of ranking and if it will effect it, it might but blogs are fairly easy to get ranked, even new ones. Just post regularly, whether daily, weekly or whatever. I have moved my bass fishing blog about 4 times and in six months I am still on the first page in Google for my keywords.

    Hope that helps!

If you're concerned about whats already there, you could leave just a landing page with the relevant details of your new blog and and auto redirect after a few seconds - that means you still have the existing page in play as well as your new name and location.

The landing page will still have the meta tags etc so it's just giving search engies something else relevant to chew on, also good if your using different hosting companies in different locations
