Is The Weight Loss Niche Still Profitable?

Hello

New here although been lurking for a while, but not seen much weight loss products mentioned

Title wise, I mean, when starting now is it still possible to create a weight loss business from scratch , even if it takes 1-2 years?

Reason being , fitness, healthy eating is my life so happy to create a course of both aspects, videos and so forth

I am not new to PPC , so that is not a problem but obviously I am competing with people who have been doing it for years

My main area would be helping women 25-45 lose weight, get fit and so forth

If my frontend product(s) and backend are created to the highest standard, am I ok to get there ?

If not niche area, then I have no idea what direction to go

Thanks everyone

  • heavily competitive, full of fraud products. Multi million $ corporation operating in this market. I really don't advice you to go there unless you have something very special to deliver & are able to tolerance a lot of skeptics (low conversion rate).
But effective weight loss program require specialized programs for each individual which is time consuming & not scale-able,

Advice you to try another niche.
  • If its what you know and you are good at, you can make it work.

That is not a niche you will conquer with ease or speed.

    I have 3 main suggestions.

    1. start working on networking with individuals in the niche already. That will be equally if not more important than your marketing skills.

    2. everything you do should be to brand you or your products as an expert in the field.

    3. look to go even more niche. think women aged 25-35 who need to lose baby fat. or working moms who need to lose 10 pounds.... women age 25-45 is not a niche market, its a huge demographic with lots of niches in it.

    • I agree with David...especially on point #3. Weight loss is such a huge market, that you really need to limit your focus if you are wanting to make a dent. I would try & serve a small niche market (that has money to spend of course).

    • I agree with David...Nichefy this market as best you can! You need to laser target as much as you can.

  • I still make money in the weight loss niche and have been for a while. Not a ton becuase as mentioned above it's crazy competitive. I went into with other things going on the side and it was more of a true hobby which has taken off nicely. If you are trying to get a landing page going and sell some BS than I can give you my paypal ID and you can send it this way instead JK But if you are passionate about it than start slow, pick a good niche, and over all BE UNIQUE.
I honestly got the inspiration from the 4-hour work week from Tim Ferris and while I may work a few more hours, but not many, his advice did help. He was a big beliver in getting the ball rolling, gain a following, and then start selling a product. He would mention his product in posts but never add any links to sales page. Now everyone is link happy. So set yourself apart and you will do great in the long run.
    good luck!

    • Found this article very helpful, thanks

  • It's actually getting more and more profitable considering the increasing number of people getting obese..
  • As long as the Heart Attack Grill stays open and Cable TV exists it will always be profitable.
  • I think you can make money in this niche. They say "internet marketing" is a heavily competitive niche, but people make money within this niche each and everyday. Develop a strong product, strong sales letter, strong autoresponder series, strong squeeze page.... and start collecting orders. You can do it.
    • [ 1 ] Thanks
  • It always was and always will be. Yes, the competition is there and it's a tough one, but remember this - the competition is there for a reason!
  • I think the niche is more profitable than ever! But also more competitive than ever as well.

More competition = more potential profit
  • Weight loss? Naw, that niche died a long time ago. There's no money to be made there any more. People have stopped wanting to lose weight, we're beyond that now :p

On a serious note, find yourself a sub-niche within weight loss. Perhaps you can target moms, post-pregnancy weight loss, busy women... the first step is always market research. Go on the countless weight loss forums out there - they are all bustling with fat women. See what kind of questions they are asking. Answer them, get involved and get to know your audience, ask questions, do surveys.

Then with all that education behind you, you can decide on a product that will best HELP your target audience. Set up two different autoresponder sequences, send traffic, see which converts best, keep the winner, trash the loser, keep testing until you get a decent enough conversion rate, then work on your backend.

Sure there's lots of competition in weight loss, but I reckon it's far better to go where the money is rather than to go into an obscure niche with little or no competition.
  • Honestly I would focus my efforts on something else , this niche is simply over-saturated in all his forms. If you have a nice amount of money to invest and a super product then go for it , but otherwise I would go for something else.
  • As far as the demographic... market to the 25-35, but you collect us 36ish : )year olds too. Heck, you grab the 60ish ones too with the same info. My mom saw the FRONT of a women's magazine that had something about Safslim and didn't even read the article before asking where she could buy it.

It may be a heavily competitive niche, but if you can get exposure, you will make sells.
Before and After pics are huge! And not the P90x kind, where a fit women becomes even more fit. Women who are losing the battle with weight need to see that someone as out of shape as they are, has crossed the abyss and succeeded.

Rusty Moore's blog is awesome. It is the M&F of the web, IMHO...It's not playing to gimmicks. As serious as it is, I'm sure the demographic is for the young and health obsessed, BUT I bet there are numerous followers that are overweight that don't even work out. They haven't crossed over to putting things into action, before and afters do that. I'm sure those kind of pictures would boost what I am sure is already awesome sales for the product for women.

Wow, where did all that come from? Oh yeah, I had a baby recently : )

Nope. This niche is dead. Schools put healthy snacks in the vending machines and that was checkmate.

  • I made the mistake of entering this niche as my very FIRST niche.

    Bad move! LOL

Seriously, it is very competitive, but there's definitely a lot of money to be made. Like others have mentioned you will need to micro-niche. I chose getting rid of "man boobs".

    Good luck!

  • I think you can make money in this niche.

You can create 5 videos or more, teaching people how to lose weight, that could be your first video.

Second video would, be Why people get obese in these days.

Third video would be, negative side effects of being obese

Fourth video would be, type of food people should eat to stay healthy.

You can create you own videos, and sell it to your list.

I hope it helps a little bit.
  • You can't go wrong with weight loss niche. Just like I'm niche, beauty, dating and forex, these are evergreen niche. There will always be people out there looking for these products. It is just harder to position yourself because it is competitive. I have an auth site for health niche in general and multiple mini review sites in weight loss, beauty and skin care, they are doing well even though I have not work on them for several months now.
    Good luck.
  • Yea. Start building a email list in your target market.

    You will need:

Traffic - (Think about where your target market congregates on the web (hint: forums, blogs) and then go there and buy the traffic.
Free Gift - Create a relevant gift to give in exchange for contact info
Squeeze Page - Simple page explaining the benefits of getting your gift

As you're building your list, promote relevant products and help your target market reach their goals!

The money in big markets like fitness, internet marketing, golf, etc, are "recycled". Don't be afraid of the competition. Go get your piece of the action!
  • VERY profitable.

I'm basing this from experience in the
    market myself.

  • It can be very profitable but you have to get into a niche. My advice is to not expect to make too many sales from a blog or directly from a landing page. The best way is to first get people on an email list and then do follow up email marketing presenting offers from clickbank etc.
  • Yes, of course it is profitable. You just need two things:

    1. Targeted traffic
    2. Converting offer

Of course, those things might be difficult to build/obtain/tap into - but did I miss anything?

  • Weight loss is a great niche to dive into but you should really be knowledgeable about before making this step. When you decide for the market, dive into with all of your efforts and creativity and do a lot of competition research, because the weight loss niche is truly one of the most competitive ones. On the other hand, there is a lot of money that can be made in it.
  • I do not have that particular niche but my friend is still having good time with it Actually it increased in recent time.
  • I think a good question to ask is "Is there anyone who's STILL making money from the weight loss niche? If there is, then you can do that as well. It just matters how much money you want to make from it...and that boils down to the amount of time and effort you'll spend doing research, marketing, etc.

    Good luck to yah!

  • There is no shortage of obese people.

And yes, it is still profitable, it's whether you can make money that is the real question.
  • weight loss is still great today but you will need to promote on FB only, Google will be harder.
  • I'm seeing a weight-loss program commercial on my TV right now. In fact I see ads in magazines all the time for weight-loss. The web? It's all over the place. Over saturation?

Hardly. Do you realize how many people in America alone are overweight and desperately seeking for a program, service, or product to fix that for them? It's an unbelievably profitable niche and those who say differently simply can't handle the pure competition that exists in the industry.
  • I think any kind of niche blogging is profitable if you able to make it happen. you can target more sub niches.

Till people conscious about their weight this niche will surely work. So you can continue with it.

  • Weight loss is one thing, that will always be profitable. But it's also more and more competitive. If you have the resources and a good (unique) plan to jump in with the big guys, then you can make huge profits.
  • Here's a couple things to think about:

    1. Build relationships with other bloggers/product owners in weight loss and fitness niches.
    2. You don't need to be an expert. Your goal should be to build a strong personal brand. Be the product.
    3. Build a list. Offer something valuable for free and ask people what they're struggling with the most. This will allow you to create better offers in the future.
    4. Create amazing content. Generic 500 word articles won't do. Think long and hard about what you say.

The weight loss/fitness market is HUGE. Right now, 2/3 of all Americans are overweight. That's a ridiculous number of people that you can market to, and it's growing fast. Perfect market to enter with a strong, long-term plan!

    • I think there will still be money to make as
More than one-third of U.S. adults (35.7%) are obese.

  • Until weight related deaths are not an issue, and that could take many years, I imagine the niche will still be profitable.
  • It will continue to be profitable as long as there are people looking to shed some pounds.
  • Did all the fat people disappear? No? Well, there's your answer.

I wouldn't recommend either of these, personally. That's exactly what the rest of the competition is doing. Why fight for scraps when you can just bypass search engines completely and put your content where people already look for weight loss results (relevant websites)?

  • If this is what you know and you are good at, I would say: go for it! There are other ways to get traffic besides Google, you know. Since you would have to be digging deep to find a good combination of the right niche with a good amount of monthly searches, I would start thinking creatively about how your message can be shown to people that are interested in losing weight. Now , I know this takes more time to get to where you want to be, but in a highly comepetitive niche like that, I would definately use that detour and not sit around and wait for Google to notice me.
    Good luck!
    • [ 1 ] Thanks
  • Weight loss niche is still profitable because it`s evergreen. Opinion that competition is bad are wrong because if you have competition it means that there are money to be made and lots of it. Try hard and don`t give up.

    Cheers.
  • Still profitable and always will be profitable. Theres competition everywhere so its pointless to bring that up as a point. Apply hard work with committment and you will do fine

    • Strong Lifts.com isn't YOUR target market, but it was a business that was started in 2007 (not all that long ago) and it came out of passion first. You could probably get a lot of ideas. One thing that is prevalent their is lots of content that really helps people and educates them. There's no sense of holding out.

And the domain name doesn't suggest keyword chasing. He's branded himself and stuck to it. It's very possible if you just focus on helping, entertaining, informing and changing people's lives. Mehdi Hadim his become a go-to guy for this kind of information so he probably doesn't need SEO or even so much PPC now for business.
  • Though that niche has a wide competition, your advantage is that you seem passionate about it as well as enjoy sharing about the topic.

I would advise the same thing of narrowing down your niche. Try to make your keywords or phrases more specific. Try using long tail keywords that have high global monthly searches.

    • Of course, there are still tons of overweight people all over the world searching, looking for a quick fix or a magic pill.
  • Yes, it is still a profitable niche.

It depends on how you make unique contents to your targeted audience.

  • Till the day nobody will want to lose weight, this is a profitable niche
  • If you start with a freebie, get yourself a squeeze page sorted out and drive traffic to it, you will be able to make this niche profitable
Then you can begin with some affiliate marketing to get off the ground.
Your time and effort in this niche will pay off eventually
  • Will always be a possible profit seeing how ppl are always trying to lose weight. Careful though do research on the product you are selling as there are a LOT of SCAMS out there
  • Weight loss will never be not profitable, you just need to figure out a way to make it work for you.
  • weightloss is competitive and that means it is still a good niche. Time to jump infront of the big money pie and get your chunk.

Our three best niches are :-

    weightloss.
    relationships
    wealth -forex, stockmarket
  • Think this niche is becoming a bit crowdddddedd now surely?! Need to get very granular to find a good untapped resource there..
  • Weight loss is the second most profitable niche after the "Money Making Niche"

    very profitable and highly competitive.

If you're A newbie I don't advise you to start with the weight loss or money making niche
