Brainstorming Thread - Obamacare Ruling

Within the next 10 days a monster ruling from the US Supreme Court will be issued regarding the legality of "Obamacare."

Otherwise known as an "opportunity" !

Possible rulings could be:

1. Entire law is legal.
2. Entire law is illegal.
3. Only the mandate to buy health insurance is illegal.
4. Only the Mandate and auxillary provisions (eg, must insure anyone with a pre-existing condition) are illegal.

Millions of businesses and 300 million Americans will be impacted. The Affordable Healthcare Act is extremely broad, including even a 10% surcharge on tanning salons.

I'm guessing you know this ruling is about to come down, one of the most important rulings in decades, but have not thought about how to make money from it.

Maybe you think this is only the province of attorneys like myself.

So why don't we brainstorm some possibilities that are broader than just pure legal issues ...

- Which companies stocks may go up or down? (Health insurers, private medical companies, medical product suppliers, drug manufacturers, etc.)

- What are new deadlines caused by the ruling? Do people need to quickly buy from your CPA offer to lock-in insurance if the pre-existing condition offer requirement is struck down?

- How to improve your health so you don't have to worry about what happens at the federal level.

- Niche specific. Whatever general outcomes occur, how can you apply that to your specific niche (eg, everyone has 10 days to do X also means dentists have 10 days to do X.)

  • Alternative Health niche should have a field day when Obamacare gets knocked down. Health care costs are through the roof and alternative methods will gain popularity.

Diet should also gain more popularity along with exercise like P90X.
  • I don't think this topic really belongs in a forum about internet marketing.

Unless you are talking about IM opportunities with this big news. I can definitely imagine some smart IM'ers buying up some "Obamacare" EMD's and posting some blog posts to capture the massive spike of traffic that will occur for the term "obamacare" when the ruling is released.

    • That is exactly what I am talking about.

I thought about PLR that would discuss why certain stocks will go up or down and why - although the shelf-life may be short. But there are undoubtedly a few Warriors in that niche.

  • I know this is a lot to ask - but brainstorming / marketing threads help create ideas that make people money. Getting sidetracked into whether "Obamacare" is good or bad, debt issues, etc., will result in a political thread that a mod will nuke.

Lets keep this a nuke free zone.

  • well, i am really not sure where the opportunities for marketers to make money on this are going to be.

I am a stock guy, but i don't think any of us really know what to expect. I mean this decision is going make a huge impact, but it could go so many ways right now. And even then, thats not going to be the end of it. I think the stock moves are going to be in serious day trading not in buy and hold based on the court decision.

as for other ideas, I know the search volume will spike and new long tail search phrases will show up so that could be some opportunity for a handful of people.

i would think someone is probably going to hit the viral lottery with a few videos based on the ruling. both serious and spoofs.

    • Let me be clear...I'm telling you to go away because you will get this thread locked, so the rest of us can't discuss the subject.

If you want to stay, I'll help you out. Let's say ObamaCare is passed. What doesn't it cover? Many folks won't know the answer and the first people that can write a report about the subject have huge potential to either sell the report or build a list with it in the very lucritive niche of health care and health care insurance.

And it has a built-in marketing campaign. A report called "What ObamaCare Doesn't Cover" released soon after the verdict is a natural for press release distribution.

See how discussing ObamaCare can be a marketing one and not a political one, as Brian intended? It doesn't matter if you are for or against ObamaCare. What matters here is how you can help people out and make money from it at the same time.

Let me know if you're still confused with the concept and we'll try to help you out some more.

    • Ryan,Has nothing to do with opinions. Has to do with the fact that political subjects aren't allowed here, and Kurt knows it. You appear to neither know nor care.

      Leave the politics out, please.

  • Back to the brainstorming question... just a few thoughts, since you mentioned it...

... If you wait till the ruling, then send out a quick email to your list and ASK them for their top five questions THEY have about the ruling, about their fears, about their specific situation. Ask THEM what they want answered. Never fails.

... If you want to prepare in advance, send the same email, but send it TODAY. Ask them for their five best questions they'll have on either side of the issue. Tell them you'll give the survey results the minute the ruling comes down, as well as some answers, guidance, and tips either along with it or soon thereafter. This way, you'll peak their interest now and trigger a cause to come searching for your answers when the ruling comes. No matter which "side" your own before the ruling, we're all in the same boat afterwards -- all confused.

BTW, I'm glad yall had the "political discussion" prior to my jumping in on this. I've been involved in a lot of political campaigns from the direct mail marketing side of it one way or another, without ever being for or against a candidate or issue... except once.

The mail production team asked me whether or not we should all stay up ALL night to get a 50,000 direct mail piece out the door before morning. It was a response to some pretty slanderous allegations made two days before a local county election. To allow the allegations to go unaddressed would mean the candidate would most certainly lose the election. There was money to be made for us in that last minute mailing, but who wants to do manual labor ALL night, then keep on working through the next regular workday nonstop?

There was no big moment of truth... no big speech supporting one candidate or another. The truth is we all just agreed that we didn't have the right to have any voter not hear both sides. So we stayed up all night. The piece was mailed. Voters got it on election day. The slandered candidate got to defend himself in the nick of time. He won.

And like most local candidates and elected officials... nobody can even remember his name.
