How to Register on a Wordpress Blog

I have my blog set up with Allow Registrations in my Settings, but how does anyone actually register? I wouldn't know how to register on my own blog - yes, I know - but shouldn't there be a Register Here as a subscriber or similar, somewhere visible on my pages?

I do have a Register to my RSS feed (Feedburner and Bookmark the Permalink), but that is different from someone registering on my blog and showing up in Users as a subscriber, isn't it?

I do have some subscribers in my Users, but have no idea how they got there!

After you all stop laughing at me, you should thank me for giving you all an opportunity to feel superior and really smart at my expense. I don't mind - I'm just glad to brighten your day...... Again.

Yes, subscribers from RSS and blog users as subscriber are different.

They got into your blog by hacking! Lol kidding :p

The registration url is common for any self-hosted wordpress blog, so anyone can get into your blog as a subscriber!

This is the common url, yourdomainname.com/wp-login.php?action=register

  • I spent most of the last few hours messing with this very issue.

I used wp user control to add them to the sidebar via a widget and it handles everything, including lost passwords, and it's very easy to use.

Are you trying to make it easier to get folks to register or just curious how they're getting in? By default the spammers try to use http://yoursite.com/wp-login.php?action=register.

    Does that help?

So does that mean that the subscribers I have already are all hackers and I should delete them all with max force?

I want to increase my genuine Subscribers so I can start building my list. Just having an RSS subscriber list with emails attached is not the same thing as when people say 'you have to build your list', is it?

I don't have an optin form - maybe I need to put one in the sidebar to get subscribers for a list? - I don't have anything to give away in exchange for getting their email addresses as yet, but I could encourage them by sending emails to them in the meantime...and by being extra nice to them.
