Safest way to recieve payments for freelancers

Hello everyone,
Am planning on offering independent freelance services for marketers and bloggers through my blog.
Basically i intent to set up a 'hire me' page, where prospective clients can see what i offer and can contact me.
So my question is what is the safest or best way to accept payments for my services? Also should i require clients to pay deposits/work in milestones?
I've been working on freelance websites but I'd like to jump off from them.

P.S What are the typical rates for lets say professional blog posts, newsletters, reviews, landing pages, and such like marketing copy.

Thanks a lot

Are you in the US? If so, the best way to receive payments for your services would be through paypal. I'm not too familiar with other payment processors outside the US however.

If you would like to get an idea for how much you should charge for your services, the best you can do is go to other websites offering services similar to what you want to provide and price yours accordingly. Hope this helps.

The best way to receive payment is still Paypal. But it's not the safest, because Paypal only protect tangible products' transaction. Paypal doesn't provide escrow/ protection for intangible products.

Although it's not the safest, but people still use Paypal for buying online. And because the buyers use Paypal, you, as the sellers, should use Paypal also. No matter how great your service is, if the buyers can't pay, they will not buy it.

The safer option is use Payza/ Moneybooker. One of them, I forget which one , is provided escrow/ protection for intangible product. So, if there's a problem with your client, you could solve it more easily.

I have been using Paypal since I started in the article business 13 months ago and I've never had a single issue with it. No complaints from any clients OR staffwriters that I use.

Another vote for PayPal, I've been using it exclusively service wise since I started writing a year ago. Is it perfect? Nope. Is there risk? There always is with business (even if remotely). I wouldn't trust anyone else at the moment, outside of my own merchant account perhaps.

As far as when to accept payments, I usually demand 100% upfront, and make exceptions for a select few from time to time. A lot of freelancers I know do the same.

If you are from USA or Canada or from western country then Local bank transfer is the safest way to get payment or you can use paypal to get payment. The typical rate for these service is 8-10$/hour in freelancing sites like odesk, freelancer etc.

I agree with Paypal, especially since you are doing business with individual clients, it should be ok.

I have both asked for 100% upfront, and agreed to 50% on order 50% on completion. The latter is usually for clients who are just as new to me as I am to them.

Have you checked out Stripe? That might be a good solution for you based on what you said.

I agree with other posters. If you are in US or any country that accepts Paypal, then Paypal is the way to go. They have a fair dispute system, so the rate of scam with it is pretty low.

There really is no such thing as typical rates for this kind of stuff.

You set your rates based on how well you can position yourself as an expert and what the market will bear.

My advice is to figure out the hourly rate you would need to earn if you were doing this full time (assuming you aren't) and aim for rates that will get you close to that.

A good calculator to help you figure this out is here (no affiliation):

You can use different services to receive payments. The use of paypal is a must. Regardless how bad it is because it has got the reach and reputation also. I don't think that you will have any such issue that will make your freelancing hell :p. The main issues of paypal occurs during the verification process. If you pass the verification process successfully, there will be no further major issues for you.

Also integrate alertpay, moneybookers and enable credit card payments. Remember, if you provide your clients wide range of choice, your clients will be happy because they will have the chance to choose the best one for themselves.

I agree with them. PayPal is the most common way to pay and get paid for online services nowadays.

And thanks for these alternatives also. Clients would like that they also have choices on how to pay you. They could choose a convenient way for both of you.

I also agree. PayPal is by far the most common way to be paid as a freelancer. I worked as a freelance writer for a few years and every client I had except for one paid me via PayPal. The other client paid me via check once per month.

Sometimes yes, sometimes no. Don't base the way you view your market's mindset on your own opinions. You aren't the market. You'd be surprised how many could not care less about anything not named PayPal.

Other payment alternative is Western Union. It's more comfortable since it's free of fraud dispute after you take off the payment from WU.

Yes! I also Suggest PayPal Because There is No Other Payment Proceesors Better Than PayPal. The Rates is Starts From $1 to $30 Per Hours as Per Freelancers Experience & The Budget.
