I want to make a e-store website for our local food.
Do I have to use a theme or a plugin?
What is the best theme or plugin for this?

I use the Responsive Theme (free from wordpress.org) and Woocommerce plugin (also free for wordpress.org).

This combo works great for me

I use EcWid for eStores on WordPress sites - easy to set up and great support.

    I reviewed it here:

  • Hi there

Surely Wordpress will be best any time and you can get quick support, but i think you can use Drupal also.

    Thanks

If you would like to create an online store, the best option is using Wordpress Theme.

You could use ThemeForest to look for premium & beautiful ecommerce WP Themes:
    eCommerce | ThemeForest

You could also use Opencart or Magento. Both of these platform is made exclusively for ecommerce and also have beautiful and professional-looking ecommerce templates.
    OpenCart | ThemeForest
    Magento | ThemeForest

Wordpress is the easiest to use and the most flexible. It has so many plugins, so you can tweak/ improve your site easily.
Magento is the most expensive one. But a lot of people said that this platform is powerful.
Opencart has many beautiful ecommerce templates, the price is not as higher as magento, but the plugin is not as rich as Wordpress.

If you want to use plugin to create your ecommerce site, WooCommerce plugin is the best one: http://www.woothemes.com/woocommerce/

You should choose WordPress theme as it has made a mark in the e-commerce space and more and more online shop are now powered by WordPress ecommerce.

Among them Boutique WordPress Theme works better as I use this...

If you plan on taking credit card payments on the website I wouldn't use WordPress as it's not PCI compliant. You are leaving yourself wide open to penalties and liability by using a non-compliant self-hosted shopping cart.

Even if you don't plan on taking credit cards on your website, with an open-source solution you can expect all sorts of bugs and potentially security problems as well.

I would recommend looking at a hosted solution like BigCommerce where PCI compliance is handled for you and the security of the cart is out of your hands! The $24.95 a month fee is more than worth avoiding the headaches you'll have with a self-hosted open source solution.
