Yes, YouTube being good platform to make your video visible with community. If your video has been seen most then you would have good reputation in it. Now some provider has started to "Increase YouTube Views" service.

It can be, especially if you build up a channel around your business, encourage and respond to comments, comment on other people's videos, promote your channel on FB and Twitter, and make use of the various social interactions that Youtube allows.

Because of the ability for users to post comments, it's loosely part of social
networking but I wouldn't consider that YouTube's main focus. It's more of
a media platform IMO.

True social networking platforms are Facebook and Twitter as their main focus
is to interact with the other members.

Hey Steven,

Youtube also allows for "subscribers" as well as ways to send other members messages. Subscribers are much like Facebook friends or Twitter followers.

And Youtube includes these social factors when ranking videos.

Youtube offers so many features and benefits, it's really hard to classify it as a single "thing".

It is not a social networking site, and it's much more than just that. It will be considered now a days as traffic driving for your site anyways. The dilemma comes because of most affiliate networks consider YouTube traffic as social traffic.

I think it is both as well. It is social media but a video site for you to do advertizing and get you message to people. I love it and use it all the time. I have over 100 videos I have produced or that have been produced for me on YouTube. Could not imagine not having it. It is netwoking socially and a social media as well.

From what I see you are trying to distinguish between "social networking [service]" and "social media".

Here are some excerpts from Wikipedia:

Social networking service

Social media

According to that it is ok to say YouTube is a social network service that offers social media technologies.

Youtube is one kind of social network that includes the feature of social media as well. Actually the youtube is something thats difficult to classify as social media or social network.
