I had a potential client that wanted me to do dry voice over work said it would be long term. When he asked for I price quote I sent him my price sheet and he said that was too high then tells me that he has someone who is doing 30,000 words for $100 so I said ok we will give it a try well we settle on him sending me 20 bucks at a time and as it runs out he will send me more. the first thing he sends me is 3 pieces totaling around 1500 words the intent was to do that every week for his blog and then to eventually put them together in a product for sale. I figured this would be way undervaluing my time etc. Am I out of my mind for turning that down?

    I just visited your site, and listened to the voice samples.

    IMHO, no, you're not out of your mind for turning that offer down. With a voice like yours, that rate is far too cheap.

    I've bookmarked your site, and will be in touch for some audio work I have coming up.

    I agree with Darren -- don't devalue your talents.

    If you're having any difficulty finding clients who are willing and eager to pay your price, then think about how you're positioning yourself in the market. Are you making it clear to your clients why you're worth the price and what you offer over your competitors?

    Your USP doesn't have to be earth-shattering. It just needs to answer every client's question, "why should I buy from this guy?" And your service and final product will show him why he should hang on to you and happily pay your rates for all his future work.

    If you're good, stick to your guns. The reason so many people are underpaid is because they accept so little as a compromise just to get work. Then the exception becomes the rule and it's hard to break out of the 'bargain basement' box. This goes for all freelancers.

    For quality work.. charge the quality price. To be elite in what you do (great voice by the way) you have to charge the amount that you're valued to be. Anything less than that and you're insulting yourself.

    I always say to people who talk to me about cheaper competitors.

    "Oh so you want the Mercedes for the Toyota price"

    Normally they get the point.

    Most people are going to try to negotiate to the bottom dollar, it is in their genes. But like the others in this post stand firm and believe in your talent.

    Thank you so much I was just concerned that I was thinking to highly of myself and my abilities. I am so very glad I am not. when he told me he had someone doing 30,000 words for $100 (150 words = about a min ) so that is about 30 bucks an hour I was like :confused: but anyway thanks for all of your responses
