I am just about ready to throw in the towel. I have gotten notice from Bluehost that my sites were infected, so I had to buy dedicated IP and Sitelock to get them to re-activate my sites. Now, 1 week later, Sitelock is shutting down my sites saying there is malware, and I need to pay an additional $350 (that I don't even have right now) to get it cleaned up and protected. This is in addition to the recent registering of new domains cost, hosting costs, and other associated costs. All of this with almost zero money made. Should I just give up? Just stop trying at IM all together? I mean I can't afford to keep fixing problems before I even make any money. It seems awfully convienient that my site wasn't infected until Sitelock got involved, but whatever I guess. What's your guys opinion? Just cut my losses and move on?

Seriously, has anyone else had this much trouble?

how did you get malware on your site? you dont have any security measures put in place? i dont think ive ever run into those issues before.

see if there are any alternatives to getting those sites clean. i wouldnt quit IM just yet, as all these problems are fixable. keep your head up as these are just obstacles to your end goal.

Man, that's a lot to cope with...

Cut your losses and move on...it seems that you had an awfull lot of bad luck... but you can make it one way or the other.

I am not replying to complain about my own situation but this is the school of hard knocks and that goes for me to. Relentless and endless ...are my efforts to make some money of importance and yes I lost a hundred or two but I won't let go.

Got a few gigs these days on fiverr ( yeah I know, it's peanuts) boosting my self confidence never the less ! Working (closely) just now and with the help of another warrior on cheap traffic sources and related cpa set-ups ...

Go for it and I wish you luck and a lot of perserverance.

You must have clean files on your own computer's hard drive, right? Why not just dump that host, find a new one and upload your sites to it?

This. Plus I've heard other hosts who will clean up your site for you if there's something wrong because they know it doesn't only affect you, it affects them.

I've heard of hostgator doing this, am I wrong anyone? Never had it happen to me so can't tell you for sure.

Wow, tha'ts pretty unlucky. But don't give up. You can always get a new domain, and maybe a new host. Having infected site is pretty rare. Just get a new domain and build up from that one and start over. Since your current site isn't making money right now, it's not hard to cut off with it. Good luck to you.

Woow, that really sucks. I don't even pay that much a year on hosting and domains together!

I would definitely continue. You can learn a lot by reading posts and blogs on this forum. If I would have start all over, I would join the Warrior Room and devourer all posts made by Allen Says himself, free WSOs and salespages and decide to either launch your own WSO or go into something like affiliate marketing, listbuilding or simple adsense niche websites.

But before you decide to buy anything, make sure you know what you want and how you're going to achieve it. Don't hop from WSO to WSO. There's too much free information shared on the internet.

There's no way I'd part with $350 under those circumstances. As for packing it in, if you're still semi enjoying yourself trying to build yourself a business, carry on.

But if it's all getting to you, and may have beem for a while, knock it on the head, as you may be able to put the same effort into something else, that's more lucrative.

In any event mate, I wish you all the best.

No man! Don't give up. Stick it out. I can understand how frustrated you are but don't give in. Just find solutions because this internet marketing stuff works so you just gotta make it work.

Have you ever heard of Russell Brunson's story? I forget the exact story but at the time he had a multi-million dollar business going on with coaches, a call center and all that but then one day almost all orders stopped coming (maybe an exaggeration but you get the point) and it was because his merchant accounts were shut down.

So basically he had all these coaches and products to fulfill and all these employees to pay (thousands of dollars on payroll) but he didn't have money coming through!

But he fought through it. Now DotComSecrets is doing really well.

Or take Daegan Smith. I was literally just reading his story again the other day. He had just moved into a new home in Maui, his business was doing well but then suddenly the carpet was pulled underneath him.

Huge lead source gone virtually overnight. He had about $25,000 in costs to pay each month and then on top of that he gets a letter from the IRS saying he owes them over a million dollars.

But he fought through it and we all know how well Daegan's doing now a days.

Stick it out =) Don't wish it were easier, wish you were better.

    Chad,

Back-up your site and switch to another domain. We personally prefer HostGator due to their outstanding customer service. If there's a problem, they're just a chat away.

Thanks to all of you. I think I will probably try HostGator and go from there. It seems to have most of your support as a better host. I'm not going to give up just yet, but I may end up dumping all of my current sites for new and starting all over, if the problems become much more complex.

Thanks again to everyone for the words of encouragement.

    Chad,

You got solid advice already as far as what to do about the infected sites so I won't chime in there.

I did want to chime in though on your thoughts of quitting IM altogether. If you truly enjoy it don't quit. This is a valuable learning experience you're gaining and it can only make you stronger. After this gets resolved you now know how to fix this issue if it arises again. You, now, also have the knowledge to help others who will face this misfortune. You could possibly make a WSO to teach others how to safeguard their websites so this won't happen and/ or teach people what to do in case something like this happens.

It seems like a really bad situation now but you'll learn from it and can possibly profit from it. If you truly love IM stick with it; don't give up. This is a perfect time to see how much you really love IM. You're being tested; what are you going to do? Whatever route you choose I wish you the best.

    Hang in there buddy.

    Chad,

What ever you decide on doing... do not give up! That would be the worst thing you can do to yourself.

I like the idea of moving to another hosting and if you have some files for these websites work with them. If not, start all over man. But what ever you do, do not stop!

How bad do you want it? If you stop now what else will you do. Reality is, you will not stop because if this wasn't working for you anyway it means you need to direct your attention to something better.

    And that's my two cents.

    Regards,
    Kael

Whether you move or stay my advice is to check out the guys at sucuri.net who will clean your site and then monitor it 6 hourly for a year for a fraction of what they are asking you for. If it's a WordPress site they have a plugin that will monitor it from inside too. I am an affiliate but not sure what the policy is on giving out that kind of link here, so I'm erring on the side of caution, but genuinely want to help you out. I know how frustrating and demoralising this is. Don't let the **** get you down.

    All excellent thoughts:

    1. Find your files that are not infected
1.a check your home machine as well, make sure you have the latest virus signatures for your software of choice
    2. Have your current hosting provider, help you! If you are still not getting any help, then look to move to hostgator or anyone else at this point, who will help get your site up and running. But first thump your chest at your current provider...find out how you got infected if at all possible (old version, exploit, etc...).
    3. Sitelock, should be helping you with this to figure out (what happened), what did you pay for originally, a security logo that scans your site and tells you exactly whats wrong?
    4. If, current provider is not helping you move your site/domain ASAP and tell them too why you are doing it, maybe they will work with you if you start to blast there name everywhere as a host that won't help.
    5. Get a new hosting account
    6. Load your site, make sure its up to date and infection free, turn off features you don't need, add some security steps based on your website (WP, Joomla and others usually have a list of the Top-10 things you can do to protect your site)
    7. I just discovered this the other day... CloudFlare dot com, its a CDN (cloud distributed network) that you can point your DNS to them and they will provide you with global network to get your website seen faster and Provide a level of Security to your site for FREE!!! Yes, they have a Pro service, good if you have lots of images and need SSL support. But for the basic site, it adds a level of security to your website that will help protect you from other instances... (I have three sites all running on this system...turn yourself into Amazon instantly!)
    8. Make sure to check your site monthly for security updates, patches, etc...

Bottom Line: Life is a journey, its the experiences we have with the ups and downs that will define us...Loose and go home or Win and stay in the Game!!! I am with everyone else here...stay in the game and WIN!!!!

If you need more help, drop specifics and I will see what I can do to help...

    Do NOT give up IM!!

I don't know if it's worth to try with this same project, but you can try a different project.

Instead of having so many websites, you can have just 1 site where you can have multiple squeeze pages to build your list, for example.

I would always recommend you to build your list.

If you use Facebook Ads and/or Solo Ads, and YouTube and drive traffic to your squeeze page(s), you will build your list fast, my friend.

I guarantee that your site won't be infected EVER again in 1 million years lol
I never heard a case like this before...

    UPDATE:

Ok, so after much tedious, depressing, and mind boggling research and phone calls, the unspeakable happened. One of my sites got BLACKLISTED on Google!

Actually, it turns out this is the best thing that could have happened to me. Because I have Webmaster Tools, Google told me exactly what the problem was, where to find it, what it looks like, and most importantly, how to FIX it. All of this for FREE.

After all the money I already paid and all the extra money they were asking for to help me avoid this "terrible" blacklisting, I was able to fix it myself in less than two hours, and Google removed the ban in less than 12 hours. All at no cost. Now I am back up and running like nothing ever happened.

I will be making the switch to HostGator, because Bluehost offered me no real help other than forcing me to get a dedicated IP or they wouldn't host me anymore. I will be seeking a refund and a prorated refund on hosting fees, as soon as I can afford to transfer my domains.

I do not recommend SiteLock. It seems like all you pay for in the basic package is to be entered into their sales funnel and at the first sight of any problem they try to upsell you.

For those interested in what the problem was it was a modification to my htaccess files apparently hacked through an outdated plugin on one of my wordpress sites. Easy fix, once I found it.

Thanks to all of you for the help, and the encouragement not to give up.
