Advice on picking a domain name

I've decided that i'm going to switch domain names for one of my sites. I'm trying to figure out the best way to pick them.

I have found a couple that are 12 years old with keyword in domain name but any other advice would be welcome in helping me pick the right domain name.

Thanks

For starters: .com; no hyphens; the shorter the better; easy to remember

Also, before you buy an existing domain, you may want to check out the link below:

Thanks for the link. Just checked it - all clear. Although the domain isn't short. Hard to find a short one in the niche i'm in.

You could start by thinking this, the domain::
is easy for Web users to remember and find

suggests the nature of your product or service

serves as a strong trademark so competitors won't be able to use a business name or domain name similar to it,
    and
is free of legal conflicts with trademarks belonging to other businesses.
    simple way
