Creating an Online Store selling Products you buy at great deals?

I have a friend who can obtain products at nearly cost from work. At his work this is encouraged since they are trying to increase their volume of sales. I've done some research and found we could be quite competitive on Ebay. Can I have him let me know when they have great deals, and then post them on my own online store as well as ebay? I'm wondering what the restrictions are on starting your own online store to sell products. I've read that you need "licensing" rights in order to do so. Would this apply here as well, or is this allowed?

As long as you are selling something legal...you're good to go

Great thanks, That's what I was hoping to hear.

Are there any suggestions to help promote my online store. I will be selling primarily speakers. What I'd like to know most is, what reason can I give people to buy from my store rather than just go to ebay? The obvious one is try to provide a better deal on my site, but I'd appreciate any other suggestions. I'm planning on using Magento as the CMS for my store.

You could provide greater selection of the items on your online store. So, buyers come to your site instead of eBay, because your site has greater selection.

But I think, for starting out, it's easier to start from eBay. With you own online store, you need to set up the website, inset the contents, drive traffic, do SEO/ PPC, provide the customer support, etc. It's need more work.

Just start from eBay, to test the market. Is there any market for the product? Does the market buy the product?

Yea, it might be a better idea to put up your items on ebay and launch your store at the same time. If you prices are better than you will have some quick sales with ebay.

It's hard to bring people to your store, but you can read a bunch of posts on how to bring traffic to your website on here.

You might even consider using pay per click google ads if your margins are good enough.
