If you're restricted to use one traffic source..

Hey warriors

If you're allowed or you decided to use only one traffic strategy, which one you use?

If that's the case I'll go for solo ad.

Please share your thoughts.

I'd go for word of mouth (provided that you offer top-notch quality) -> laser targeted traffic!

PS: might not work for all business types, but works well for one of mine

I think I would facebook, most people are on it in these days.

I hope that helps a little bit.

Content syndication also brings laser targeted traffic and I'll choose that since Eduard already chose word of mouth referrals.

For my marketing business, I'd go with referrals from my existing clients.

I'd go for the one that targets people. Content syndication.

If the product is info-product, I'll choose this way also. Affiliates could send very huge traffic more than you can imagine, in very short time.

Look at Best-selling WSO Vendors, who can make 1000+ sales in just 1-2 days. It's because of the affiliates. The free traffic source, where you can get a huge traffic in just hours, is from affiliates and their list.

I prefer solo ads for the IM niche. For other niches, I prefer video marketing.

If you want to build your list, Solo Ads is the best option. With Solo Ads, you can get opt-in in very short time. Although Solo Ads is quite expensive, it's guaranteed to bring opt-in.

I would go for Email Marketing but no idea how I would build my list without traffic.

If I had to pick another I would go for Content syndication on authority sites.

I would go for free online magazine advertisements, they are niche targeted and cost effective as not many marketers uses this method.

if i had to choose only 1 traffic method for both free and paid they would be:

paid traffic - solo ads (they rock) :-)

free traffic - personal blog (great for viral traffic, creating link bait, loyal following, builds over time

Limiting yourself to one source of traffic, even if it's a good one for you right now, is probably not a good idea.

While I can appreciate you might have a favorite form of traffic generation, it's always worth the time and effort of exploring and developing other forms of traffic - especially those with a residual effect.

Traffic sources come and go - over the years I've seen and tried a lot of different methods. One of the earliest methods I ever used successfully were traffic exchanges, but you rarely even hear anyone talk about them these days.
      My initial thoughts too Mike.

There is the saying that "One is the worse number in business!"

To have you business depending largely upon:

      - One way of generating traffic
      - Getting most of your revenue from one custom
      - Generating most of your leads from one place
      - Only having one supplier of key raw materials
      - Only having one credit card processor
      ...

They all mean that a tiny change in the marketplace, or
a decision by one individual can put you out of business.

To the original question, my answer would be that my favorite
source of traffic is getting others to send it to me for free,
most-often via an affiliate program. Affiliates have a way
of figuring out what method(s) work best.

        Hey Willie,

Thanks indeed for your thoughtful comments. I know it's not a good idea to depend soley on one source but I would say instead of trying everything and spread thin, it's always good to test one source at a time. Then try another but not everything at once. What do you think

I always appreciate constructive criticisms. My intention is to share our best one traffic source which is proven and beneficial, so that those who read this thread (especially the newbies) will know what are the best traffic sources currently working , instead of wasting their time and money applying the old and non converting methods. I really appreciate your comment.

Since everyone and their Aunt are using solo ads, i'd pick banner ads instead. I find banner ads to be far more targeted than solo's. These solo ad providers bombard their lists with free content regularly. Use your head, these are not the best leads you can get. You can build your list fast, but this not a numbers game... it's a conversions game.

The key is to think outside the box and not to target the obvious people. Example: I am a qualified plasterer. I know for a fact that this industry is dying solely (the main reason i got out) and i also know that people in the plastering game work extremely hard. I can set up a banner and squeeze page specifically to target this industry. They may not seem targeted but I can relate to them on a very personal level and speak the lingo. I know the ins and outs of plastering so i can easily build trust as the person who went online and successfully made money.

This is just an example. You could target people who have already been successful offline and are always seeking new challenges and opportunities. These people already have money to spend and know what it takes to be successful.

Now compare that to people who opt in to your list from a solo ad. These people are constantly used to getting free stuff from MANY marketers and you must have one cracking offer to stand out from the crowd. Plus, the I.M niche is saturated with crappy offers and people are far more skeptical these days. I'm not saying they don't work, but i am saying there are much more responsive people you can target.

I use solo ads myself from time to time, but creating your whole list on just those is not going to have the best ROI.

    Just my two cents.

Where the traffic comes from is easy - the hard part is getting them on your list, getting them to open your emails and trust you enough to buy! Once you have a list of a few thousand and you have people on the list grateful to be on it you can drive hundreds of visitors anywhere with your emails.

But these traffic sources all work great for me:

    - Buying ads on niche relevant sites!
    - Ariticles and guest blogging (syndication and guest blogging are two different things BTW) to those same niche sites
    - Bing PPC

Some other strategies I've used in the past:

    - SEO
    - Yahoo Answers
    - Blog Commenting/Forum Commenting (good relevant backlinks to your stuff)
