One Month After Launch

Hello fellow warriors

I just wanted to get everyones opinion of the results I've been getting for the first month of my site being up.

A little info on the site. It's a subscription based royalty free music library. Basically you pay a small monthly fee and get unrestricted access to the entire library. Our music has been used on ESPN, The History Ch, Discovery and others so it's a little different than your standard thrown together royalty free music site.

As far as my progress. I have 15 names on my list and am using icontact to send emails about updates to the site(new music, blogs or videos) I have gotten 3 paid subscribers so far that seem to be really happy with the service and have sent me emails saying how much they like the music and concept of my site. I've received around 400 unique visitors to my site so far.

I have been using twitter manually and trying to make the tweets really helpful and interact with people. I've been thinking about using an auto adder like tweetadder. Is this a good idea? Are there better programs?

I also purchased ppc ad on FB and got around 7 emails to my list by offering a freebie.

And lastly, I've been posting on relevant filmmaking forums once a day at the least and that is the highest sources of traffic to my site. Should I join more forums or focus on the four I'm using and grow them?

Basically I just want to be sure I'm on the right track or if there is something I could be doing to get better results.

Thanks everyone.

I would keep doing what you're doing now and it will pay off for you.

I checked out the site and discovered a couple functions that could work better. When you first arrive on the site, each posting, "Elevator Deluxe" for instance, can be navigated to individually. However when you choose an Explore or Album category on the left, "Ambient" for instance, the listing on that page cannot be clicked on for more info or to navigated directly to that product posting page..To me that would seem to discourage visitors from browsing the site and increasing visitor time on the site...

Also while you are only one month in, I would start to create more in depth descriptions on each music track you are selling, make a standard list of information and include it in every posting: track length/duration, music genre, instruments used (guitar, bass), themes (action, drama, love scene, etc), movie genre, etc.. Use an excerpt for search results and show the entire post after they navigate to full post..

All things you may want to split test..

As for Twitter, I would simply use a WP social sharing plugin of some sort, there are many. This gives you an easy way to broadcast each posting but better yet, so can your visitors..

I am glad to see you haven't just thrown everything but the kitchen sink into your site. Adding features like the ones mentioned above one by one rather than shotgun gives you a little time on how best to iplement or NOT implement them..

When you are able I would allow a 5-9 second snippet that they can listen to , give them a little taste.

You are doing the right stuff if you are closing subscribers with just 400 uniques. You will do well , just keep paddling!

    Cheers!

    C

I clicked on the link in your sig. You can do a lot to improve your situation by cleaning up your site and letting people know what you're all about.

Put a brief paragraph right up top center telling your visitors what you're offering. Had I stumbled onto your site without having read your post I would have absolutely no idea what you were doing. You have a far better explanation in this thread than you do on the actual site. Fix that and watch your conversions improve dramatically.

Also, the text links in your navigation bar are all crowded together so they're barely readable. Get them separated out so people can see what you've got. Just a little TLC for the site itself will go a long way. Good luck.

I'd consider ramping up the marketing of your site, as stated above your site is pretty cool and conversions should be quite good, so i'd think about getting it out there! stuff like more forums, commenting on articles, craigslist, press releases, and also some easy offline methods such as flyers at local schools and colleges! you got the site and the concept, now you need to focus on traffic and nothing else.......you may just suprise yourself!

I love your site. $5/month is an unbelievable bargain. My worry is that with the unlimited downloads people will join, go NUTS downloading everything and cancel. If I were on a tight budget I would sign up and give my login to my VA and have him download everything and put it in a dropbox for me. Simple.

Anyway, think about the model and maybe create various pricing plans. At least make sure you can track who is downloading what so you can tell if people are doing what I said above. Tracking is ESSENTIAL.

For promotion, I would hire a VA to go out look for forums where people discuss music background tracks and mention this site. Teach him / her how to contribute without spamming. Pay people to do this for you. It will pay off.

I'm looking for subjects for outsourcing case studies. Your site is a really good potential candidate. Connect with me outside of this thread if you wanna chat more via Skype.

Your strategy is sound. I would also consider making more posts on the film-making forum that you're on... and also consider promoting your business on Youtube.

I like your site. To scale things up I'd suggest you do
join and contribute to additional relevant forums and
also consider using YouTube which is a source of HUGE
      amounts of free traffic.

Go ahead and set yourself up a youtube channel and post
content you have rights to.. with links to your website or
freebie offer of course :-) Also, flickr has a facility to uploads
videos (and has huge traffic) and good alternatives to
youtube to consider are vimeo and dailymotion.

      Best wishes,
      Jamie

    Hi

You should change the samples to only 10-15 second previews. Having the full mp3 streaming allows anyone with a streaming downloader to easily grab the files. I have a download accelerator installed and as soon as I start playing one of the tracks it pops up and asks if I want to download the file.

You could keep the full versions in a protected members area.

You could offer a discount membership as a WSO. Say 1 year for $29. That would give you 6 months revenue up front for each WSO sold. Use a coupon code or special link.

There are a lot of warriors who make videos and would love access to a resource like this.

I use TweetAdder, and it works well for gaining more followers and auto-tweeting. If you feel like you can convert people from Twitter, go for it.

WOW!!!! Thanks for all the great advice. It's definitely given me a lot to chew on. I'll definitely be putting some of this to use on my site.
