Google authorship -- is rel=author enough or should I sign up to Google authorship?

Hi Warriors,

So, I'm already linked my websites to Google+ profile using rel=me and rel=author, and tested them on Rich Snippets Tool and it has "authorship markup verified". It's just my photo isn't appeared yet in Google -- just have to wait. All my sites are in Wordpress

My question is, to claim authorship in Google, is it sufficient to just link the rel=me and rel=author in the blog page? Do you really have to sign up to Google Authorship form too in www.google.com/authorship, beside doing the rel=author? I'm still confused about this.

Please help. Any answer is highly appreciated, thanks.

If you have Wordpress (your content is on your blog, for example) you can download the Google authorship plugin: WordPress › WP Google Authorship « WordPress Plugins
it's easy to setup and will have your authorship (include a picture) setup for appearance in Google search.

Thanks for this so aside from the structured data testing tool confirming verification in both author and publisher sections we should also use this plugin?

Because I got both verifications but nothing showed up does it take effect instantly or is it a waiting game?

Thank you for this. Matt Cutts has been dropping hints that authorship will play a MAJOR ROLE in the future of SEO. If people think Panda and Penguin were rough, Matt Cutts has only one thing to say to that: YOU AIN'T SEEN NOTHING YET!

Do yo have to set up a Google + account before you can install and use this Plugin.

The instructions for the plugin are pretty sketchy

I would recommend the plugin..its a bit easier. Sometimes it can take a few days or so for your pic/Google authorship info to show up in the search results.

I see thanks Amy I will try it out and see.

I'm wondering if you know also about how to make the five stars show up for you website and posts in the search results?

It takes a month to two before your picture starts showing up, at least it did for me (this was back in March or April of this year). It won't show up on everything all at once either. As the Googlebot comes back to reindex your pages more and more of them will show up.

It takes about 10 days for Google to confirm your authorship as well. They'll send you an email.

Just installed the plugin this past week so still waiting...
Added rich snippets as well, and a few are beginning to show... seems odd though, as some categories do, while some don't... guessing this is just a matter of patience...
Anyone know how to speed it up...?
    Thnx...
