Hey Fellow Warriors

If you lost everything and only left with a laptop and internet access what would be your top 3 tools or resources you would use to get back on your feet again.

That's an awesome question! It's a TOUGH question too, because it suggests a person might have a LOT of financial (and emotional) stress. Here's an approach that might not work for everyone, but is of personal significance:

    1) A basic mission statement that gets repeated as a mantra several times per day... something like:

I control the process of creating wealth and of becoming wealthy. I create as much positive value as possible in every situation whether I'm paid for it or not. I appreciate every challenge and setback as a lesson in my development of value. I try very hard to embrace being OPTIMISTIC AND HOPEFUL and not allowing suppressive (and negative) people to derail me from creating value.

    2) A list of daily activities designed to move me closer to my desired outcome, using this basic framework as a guide to managing time:

40% Blog Entries / Articles / Forum Posts / Videos / Product Development
20% Cultivating And Developing Relationships With Affiliates
15% Spending Money To Buy Leads
    10% Testing
    10% Research
    5% Customer Service

    3) Surrounding myself with POSITIVE people.

There's so much negativity and pessimism in the world, and it's HIGHLY INFECTIOUS... and extremely TOXIC for a lot of people who then start getting depressed and doubtful about their ability to be successful.

    In a lot of ways...

Losing everything and having to start over can be a GOOD thing (not necessarily a PLEASANT thing while you're going through it) but... a chance to develop NEW and BETTER habits... an opportunity to break free from old patterns.

    1. Me

    • Last December, for me this wasn't a hypothetical.

I was in Eugene, Oregon, on a business trip. At the end of a long tiring day, I stopped at Starbucks. Used the bathroom first, then went to the counter to order.

At which point I realized I no longer had my wallet.

Went back to the restroom, which was locked. Waited what seemed like forever, then asked the person coming out if she'd seen my wallet. She said no, but she had a suspiciously wallet-sized bulge in the handwarmer pocket of her sweatshirt. I persisted. Do you have my wallet, I asked. She said no.

I had no legal right to detain her. She left, and I believe she had my wallet containing cash, ATM card, credit cards and my iPhone.

All I had left was my laptop and a rental car that had to be returned. I didn't have a penny on me. Couldn't even make a phone call, assuming I could find a pay phone (which are almost non-existent these days).

Long story short, went back to the hotel I'd checked out of and they were kind enough to give me $50 charged to the card I'd used. Returned the rental car, took the shuttle to the train station (thank heavens for the $50) and sat there with my laptop, hoping to score some free wifi. Which I had just long enough to get the 800 numbers for all my banks, to report stolen cards.

I realize people are very fond of posting hypotheticals here but until you've actually really truly had it happen to you, you have no idea what you'd do, marooned hundreds of miles from home on a Sunday when you can't even access your money.

With the distance of time I've come to think it might have been a good experience for me to be separated from all the cushy comforts of my normal life. Did you ever see the Michael Douglas movie, "The Game"? At one point he's drugged and he wakes up in Mexico. He has to sell his gold watch to get back home and when he gets there he has to break into his own house. He finds a gun he has hidden and from then on, the scales tip and he's in charge.

          Like that.

It would be the web browser, evernote and free hosting Web 2.0 platforms (blogspot) where my content would sit.

I would regsiter for a clickbank account, write content, write reviews and get traffic via guest blogging and syndication.

Pure "bum marketing" - no money spent on a month to month basis and I'd sell some stuff.

I'd use my first few profits to establish a domain name and get an Aweber account and scale it up from there.

I hope that laptop still have my roboform installed otherwise I won't be able to login on Warrior Forum, my paypal acct etc.

I assume I have no money left either so I can't be able to buy anything right?

First, i would run Fiverr gig since I know a bit about graphics, video creation, blog installation etc. until I get $60.

I will then reserve the $40 for my first WSO listing fee and buy a domain plus a basic hosting package. It looks I'm already set but I still don't have product to sell.

Now, I will open an account with codecanyon, browse products that don't sell well, contact the seller and convince them that I can sell their products for $XX with 40/60 revenue split.

This has actually happened to me though I did have a little more then what you're suggesting. I had gone to visit a family friend a few towns over to help her house hunt (luckily that day I had my laptop with me). A couple of hours later I received a call from my neighbor informing me that my house was completely engulfed in flames. I lost everything that day and not only had to worry about the objects I had lost but how to keep my business afloat while rebuilding my life. It's not much different in terms of losing your online business. Pick yourself up, dust off and get moving. Use all the resources made available to you no matter how insignificant they may be, you never know when it will come in handy in the most pivotal way!

I'm not sure what 3 tools I would need per se, but if I had to start all over again from scratch, I would start building a monthly income by writing articles for other Warriors. I'm not the best writer in the world by a long shot, but I have the ability to write decent articles that someone would pay a few bucks for.

I would invest my earnings into an Aweber account & some paid traffic sources...from there, I would follow up with subscribers with targeted affiliate programs (high commission, with instant payment available).

Then I would create a product in the IM niche about going from "homeless, with nothing but an internet connection & computer" to internet millionaire

  • "If you lost everything and only left with a laptop and internet access what would be your top 3 tools or resources you would use to get back on your feet again."

The 3 tools I would use would be ...

    1 - the nearest library.
    2 - my friends.
    3 - the Warrior Forum.

Email and Facebook my friends, telling them I need to sell my laptop IMMEDIATELY!

Tell them I will be at the nearest library, and would appreciate if they could buy my laptop for $200, that I would buy it back for $250 in a month if they did not want to keep it.
(I have done this before, it works great.)

Head to the library, make the sale, (not broke now!) and hop onto the library's internet, heading over to the WF. Since I already own a subscription to the WarRoom, I would also check in there.

Surf the "writers for hire", "writer wanted" ads, and make a few connections, offering $5 for 400 words articles, and get started making money that day.
(You can knock out 12 to 20 articles a day when you have to.)

I had to do this when I lost my job waaayyyyy back in 2008, and it works.

Head to the library every day, get there when they open, leave when they close. After 2 to 4 weeks you will have enough money to buy back your laptop and work from home, which is what I do now full time.

It is hard and grueling getting started, but it works. Trust me.

I lost my job, car and apartment in one month, had to walk to the library and crash on a friend's couch for a couple of months, but I implemented the plan above and have been working for myself ever since.

Hunger and shelter are pretty powerful motivators.

Good luck to all my Warrior friends in all your endeavors.

I can't agree more with you, Pat. Someone's 'root/source of motivation' is one of our primary bases when employing new writers to our company. We have discovered that those who have shallow reasons for getting a job are more likely the ones who contribute to our attrition rate. There are many factors, still, but that's one.

Hey guys back on the forum with my morning coffee Thanks warriors had some tremendous responses and some great story's, really appreciate the reply's guys

Coming back into the internet marketing game after 3 years it seems alot has changed online but the foundation of an online business hasn't really changed as much I think it's fair to put in my two cents.

So if I lost everything and only left with a laptop and internet access what 3 tools and resources what would I be using to get back on my feet again...

      1) Well a hosting account using preferably using a discount code

      2) 1 month free subscription to an auto responder

      3) Find 2 traffic sources that have proven results to begin with and not get overwhelmed by the next big thing.

      4) One of my favorite quotes, YOU are the only person who can take you where you want to go. There is no Guru, teacher, mentor, author, speaker, shaman, or whatever who can or will do that for you.Ever. - Frank Kern

      5) Make myself a strong coffee because I have alot of hard work to do

Sorry I cheated maybe it takes more than 3 things but that little bit extra helps.

A lot of this depends on what "lost everything" means.

A couple of different scenarios have been given here. fLufF's situation (post #11) was different than Patrick's situation (post #19).

Viramara's post (#44) brings to bear the importance of building and effectively using an asset, her list. Being a little bit preemptive can go a long way.

This thread has really got me to thinking though. I appreciate your input.

    Hi,

I guess when you say we have lost everything, you mean business wise, and not health (sorry just a thought)

I would use the strengths that I have already got, no point inventing the wheel.

    @ Open an eBay Account
    @ Open a PayPal Account
    @ Open a Snagit Account

Then as I have products I would start to call on local businesses and homes and offer my services as an eBay Trading Assistant. I would charge an upfront fee in the early days, as this will give me instant money to live off and pay eBay listing fees, and then a smaller % to cover the final fees and paypal fees. And I can make this as big or as small as I want.

But also I can offer my services as an eBay / PayPal Consultant to people in my local area.

Does that still work in the U.K.? Amazing. Most eBay Trading Assistants here in the States have given up. The combination of high selling fees + your commission + low prices realized basically killed the Trading Assistant business here.

I have noticed that eBay seems to work better both in Australia and the U.K. but I'm not sure why that is. Maybe your fees are lower.

Ahhh.. the old "underpants" question as we call it in the trade ;-) I'd go for...

    1. Camtasia
    2. Hosting
    3. Domain

Done. It's how I started and $6m later (yes seriously) it's still a proven formula for me :-)

If all you had was a laptop and internet access, you're going to have to hustle and make or borrow some money before you can secure a domain, hosting, autoresponder, WSO/Warrior for Hire listing fee, camtasia, etc., etc., etc.

Whatever you do, take copious notes. That way you can sell your story of "How I went from 0 to $xxxxxx in xx days with nothing but a laptop and an internet connection" once you get back on your feet (if you feel like it).
