Just wanted to hear all of your opinions about how you feel about the new amazon commission structure now that is has been basically cut in HALF.

    I'm not worried about whether or not I love it. Whether or not my customers still love Amazon is what really matters. The profit margins have been cut down, and yeah that sucks. They aren't gone though, and I made the conscious adult decision to affiliate some of their products. No hard feelings or crying over here.

      If you actually read the new structure, you'll see that the cuts only pertain to a couple of product categories.

      I don't know if this anomaly is still active, but...

      At one time, you could get around the commission caps by choosing the right associate link. For example, I used to promote a marine stereo system. If I took the link from the Electronics category, I was capped at 4%. If I took the identical item from the Boating category, I wasn't.

      Granted, that's kind of hard to do with items like grocery items, but you can still use those to add to your item total.

    As JohnMcCabe said it's not an across the board cut - just some categories, so it's not nearly as bad as it could have been.

      And by some categories, he means three. That's THREE in total.
      One wasn't even a category, it's one of their other sites.

      Everybody seems to also be ignoring the one category that was increased by, on average, 300%.

        Consider also using your existing Amazon affiliate credentials for selling products from AmazonSupply.com. The commission has always been up to 15%, and this rate has not been affected.

    Ironically, you will find a lot of great categories/niches that are wide open (that is LOW COMPETITION) in those categories NOT AFFECTED by these changes! So think about swimming where there are very little fish!

    Is there a news link to this? Or amazon sent an email about it?
    {{ DiscussionBoard.errors[6492979].message }}
    • Amazon sent out an email about it.

      I'd already put my Amazon Associates stuff on the back burner anyway since my other businesses are paying much better this summer. But I expect to return to it.

        I've received notification from Amazon that as of July 1st, I won't be eligible to promote their products anyway, so to all intents and purposes I've walked away from them. It's a shame because I was just building some momentum.

        I considered selling the sites, but I think I'll hang on to them and look for alternative retailers to promote.

    Yeah, seems like this won't affect the majority of people profiting from their Associates programs. However if you're promoting products exclusively in these niches, it's probably gonna sting a little, but not the end of the world.

    You have to be kidding?!! Amazon, who offered very small commissions, has cut them even more? I am so glad I never wasted time with them. I wonder if anyone makes any money with Amazon.
