6 frogs are sitting on a lily pad.
1 frog decides to jump off.
How many frogs are left?

:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

I read that in a book the other day.

I thought it was brilliant.

It's brilliant because it really does
answer one of the largest keys to
wealth.

I mean, there's a stark difference
between those who make a ton of
money and those who dont.

It's obvious, pretty much, to those
who make a lot and own their own
businesses - why most of the population
does not make much.

It's obvious.

It's just a very hard thing to tell people.
And, it's very hard to get them to realize
why they fail, and get them to change
their ways.

So, anyway, how many frogs are left?

like the one about if there are 3 birds sitting on a fence and you shoot one of them, how many birds are left on the fence? (zero, cuz the other two got scared and flew away :rolleyes

I don't know much about the structural integrity of lily pads and if they can support other frogs if one jumps off, but I suspect the answer may be zero.

• nope, that is not the answer.
{{ DiscussionBoard.errors[578651].message }}
• Depends on the size of the frogs and the size of the lily pads, as well as the force with which the frog jumps and the thickness of the lily pad.

One answer could be that 6 frogs are on the lily pad. One decided to jump, but does that mean he actually jumped? Deciding to jump and making the jump are two different things.

Another answer is that 5 frogs are left. The frog did jump, and the lily pad was stable enough that the other 5 were not knocked off by the force of the one frog jumping.

Another possibility is that none of the frogs are left. The one jumped, and the force knocked the other five off the pad as well.

BINGO!

One frog only "DECIDED" to jump off. That does NOT mean the frog actually jumped off. So, there are still six there on the lily pad.

This is the lesson.

We all "decide" to do things all the time, but rarely actually "DO" them.

Those who actually decide and jump, make money.

For example, you know how many times this has happened to me:

"Hey Eric, can you help me make money online? I've been at this for 5 years and am not making any money. Can you give me some pointers??"

I say, "Sure, let me check out your salesletter or squeeze page"

Their answer, "Well.... I dont actually have a squeeze page or salesletter, but I have a lot of ideas".

WRONG

You have to sell stuff if you want to make money. If you're not selling anything... well, it's hard to MAKE you do anything. So, sell some stuff. Dont just decide... that does not mean squat. Actually, do something.

Anyway, I thought that was great and wanted to share it with WARRIORS!

Now, go do something

There are 6 frogs...5 on the lilly pad and one in the water. I'm guessing most will say 5 meaning they have a small mentality...who knows if I'm right though b/c I'm AWFUL at riddles...lol they entertain me but if I had a dollar for every riddle I'd got wrong...I wouldn't be in internet marketing

Cheers,

PS- Thanks for the intellectual intrigue though

But, why?

========================
6 frogs are sitting on a lily pad.
1 frog decides to jump off.
How many frogs are left?
========================

I guess I can say, "how many are left on the lily pad"?

Good thinking though, I'll answer in a second
{{ DiscussionBoard.errors[578670].message }}
• Actually, I would say a lot of frogs

My first answer would be there are billions of frogs... But if your question was how many frogs were left on that particular lily pad, then I would say 5.

{{ DiscussionBoard.errors[578671].message }}
• There are 6 left on the lily pad. The one was only thinking about jumping.

Deciding to do something and actually doing it are 2 different things and while it is true that thought must precede action, thought without action is a daydream.

• 6 frogs are sitting on a lily pad.
1 frog decides to jump off.
How many frogs are left?

This one of those riddles that high-lights limited thinking and sloppy questioning.

OK - so 6 frogs are sitting on a lilly pad. How many frogs are NOT sitting on the lilly pad but in the immediate vicinity? Frogs will rarely expose themselves for a significant length of time so, someone like myself, who loves to watch these fascinating creatures, would look in the water around the lilly pad to see how many frog eyes were discernable. It is also obvious that some frogs may well be totally concealed so the correct answer to the question is "All of them".

I could really be pedantic and ask "Left of what?"

• Haha, there are SO many answers to this one!
It all depends on how you think, and since it's a riddle, I doubt anyone on the WF would answer 5. (Which is why that really should be the answer if it was a difficult riddle)

This is the beauty of creating difuse riddles - You can get many intelligent answers from people, and suddenly it will make a lot of sense.

Anyways, I'd stick to the fact that it definately is 6 frogs LEFT, but not nessecarily on the lily. And they could all be on the lily if the one that decides to jump off doesn't do it. But, like someone said eariler, a lily probably wouldn't support 6 frogs anyways :p

• then a hurricane came through and carried off two of the frogs who hadn't decided anything at all.

They landed in a nearby dairy farmer's buckets of fresh milk.

One of the frogs decided he was going to kick his legs and get out

but each few kicks landed him back to the bottom of the bucket and

he eventually died.

In the next bucket over, Freddy the frog continued to kick and experience the inevitable gravitational pull that keeps so many from reaching their goals.

At the bottom of the bucket, he kept kicking.

Freddy's legs were now throbbing from the muscles which had been strained.

It also felt like he was using muscles he didn't even knew existed before the milk bucket.

Night fell and although every muscle in his body was begging Freddy to quit kicking

and while it seemed impossible on the outside, something within Freddy said, "Just keep kicking."

Well, you know how the story goes.

The next morning, farmer Brown wakes at the cock-a-doodle-doo

and walks outside to see something strange.

In one of his milk buckets, there was...a dead frog.

In the other, a pair of frog footprints on top of the butter he could have sworn

He couldn't figure out which was stranger.

The fact that the dead frog must have jumped on the butter

before landing in the milk bucket

or that the butter was churned already.

He decided it didn't make much difference though.

After all it was another day dawned

and so time to...

keep kickin',

Doug

PS. for the "Freddy the Frogs" out there making butter continuing to baffle milk farmers everywhere, you'll appreciate this brief clip I found on Yoebo http://www.yoebo.com/off-topic/facin...nspirational)/

• I guess I can accept the fact that 6 frogs are left, but it's hard for me as an elementary school teacher to admit that 6 - 1 = 5. I suspect that the other five convinced him to stay safe and secure on the lily pad and not take the risk. We all know that there is risk in trying a business. Others will try to talk us out of even trying.

• There are still six frogs

There is one frog who shows initiative and self motivation

There are five frogs waiting to see if swimming is safe

If frog #1 swims away from the lily pad successfully, the other five will follow

and there will still be six frogs.

Am I over analyzing???:p

• 6 frogs are left. Just because 1 frog "decided" to jump off
doesn't mean that he did it.

The world is full of people who talk a big talk about what they
are going to do but never take much effective action to make
it happen.

Taking action is messy, risky, uncomfortable, and sometimes
results in humiliating lessons. It's no wonder people are scared
to really do stuff.
{{ DiscussionBoard.errors[580039].message }}
• Friends,

Great thread. Anyway I see many answered in hurry and didn't thought deeply. But the answer is plain and simple. 6 frog left, probably because the first one is intended to jump but didn't.

The moral is that you need to take action if you want to reach some success. Okay.

But think about it: you musn't jump in blind, you musn't take action without any plan. You need to analize your present situation and prepare yourself to take that action, so need to make a plan. Then you must to take that jump, implement your plan, and stick yourself to it.

So, John Taylor's post is useful for thinking a bit further.

End of analysis paralysis, going to make some useful.

Cheers,

Sandor

Yeah I completely agree. People should move towards all that stuff because it will help them grow as individuals and teach them the lessons they have to learn in order to be successful.

I've experienced many humiliating lessons and I'm a better person because of it. There's nothing to be afraid of really. Life's a wonderful journey of self-discovery. It's in our moments of failure, heartbreak, and humiliation that we discover who we truly are.

As Friedrich Nietzsche said: "What does not kill me makes me stronger."
