How do you know its a quality product?

I hear and read allot about making sure when you are promoting something as an affiliate that you choose a "quality product" to promote. My question is how can you be sure its a quality product?

Really the only way is to buy the product for yourself.

I know some product creators also give out the product for free to affiliates who request it.

Though of course not everyone will do that it's worth a shot.

Yes, I agree. You need to buy the product itself. Other than that, you can also search at Warrior Forum (if that product is in IM Niche) or you can also search at Google for user reviews.

You have to look at the product yourself.

It will be your judgement of the quality of a product that leads your subscribers to believe in your recommendations.

I personally read 98% of what I promote. Of those, I buy 40% of them, and I get review copies of the other 60%.

TIP: Most vendors will not give you review copies until they know who you are, and why they would want to give you a review copy. Once you have sold a few products for them, they will be more inclined to give you a review copy the next time around.

There are about certain criteria that you should consider when choosing what product to promote. Here are some that I know about:

    1. Time of the year you are starting to promote a certain product. If you plan on promoting stretch mark products, its best to set things up before you hit the summer season.

    2. Comparing the completion and the volume of consumers. You don’t want to promote a product with very high competition yet with less number of people buying the product. You also have to consider the price range of the product and determine whether you’ll be earning much or not.

    3. The number of positive reviews vs the negative. Read as much review as you can and get a good picture whether it’s a good product or not.

I usually apply this with Amazon products and I have been quite successful with most of my affiliate sites.

Even then that may only be true if you are your market.

Yes, it's much easier to promote something you have first hand knowledge about. It could be a friend or family member swearing it's a great product.

Your question about finding out if a product is good all comes down to market research, which is VERY important if you want to make sales. If you can connect with your audience and know their "hot buttons," you will know what they want in a product. Then, you can go out and look for that product.

-what are the need to solve issues for them
-what products to they talk bad about
-what do they hate in products they've tried
-what do people in your market like about products they've tried (reviews are great sources to find this)

Remember, finding a "starving crowd" is the most important thing if you want to make sales fast. Know what they want and they will buy. That's why going after product related keyword are very effective...because they already know what they want (or at least are looking for more information about this specific product)

Also, you could recommend other similar products and not just one.

So, again, find the "starving crowd" first, then fit a product that fits their needs. Hope that answers your question.

I usually know whether a product is going to be any good or not simply by the name of the person who sent the email to me.

It's shocking just how many big name marketers with built up credibility and reputation are prepared to try to get me to buy the latest hyped up high grav instant income garbage.

But coming back to your question, I think the best way to evaluate a product is to look at the past history of the product creator and do thorough research in several different forums.

Don't bother with any of these "launch jacking" sniper blogs because they just want to get a commission.

One observation - the less hype and flash in the sales letter, the better the product!

Thanks everyone for your responses, it give me a great platform to start from. I have always been big on research so that wont be an issue. I am not fond of the try before you buy method but it sounds like to be able to establish a name in this industry that is exactly what has to be done.

This should help me with at least making an educated guess before I make the purchase.

If you can't/won't acquire the product and try it yourself, the next best thing is the combined experience of people who have bought and used the product AND have nothing to gain by sharing their experience.

You really don't want to form an opinion of a product, much less something you will be staking your own reputation on, on the glowing pseudo-reviews of affiliate flogs.

For example, get on Mike Lantz' WSO Of The Day list and see how he combines reviews from customers to make his own email copy to tell his subscribers about the various products he pitches.

Depends on your market and what they are after.Of course you can buy the product and if you can answer the question if you would find the product useful then its all ok.
