You can't link to a lens or a hub in your sig?

Why is this a rule here? I don't currently use any sites of my own, it's sad that there is a rule preventing us marketers who don't use our own domains.

Well, in the last thread you started, you were clearly promoting the link on your signature. That's the reason for your infraction.

You can have a link to your lens, but you can't promote it like you did in your last thread.

Whatever you do, do it well. Do it so well that when people see you do it, they will want to come back and see you do it again and they will want to bring others and show them how well you do what you do.~ Walt Disney.

It's not as if lenses and hubs are proper ways to build a stable business.

If anything, you should be happy this forum does it's part in preventing you wasting your time.

I have to admit I thought that last one was a bit naughty with the Squidoo page telling people what you'd done. I didn't report it but it did come across as promotional.

It's also the real reason people here think it's controversial. Not becasue it's too easy or they failed, as you said but because most people are trying to create a business and you're building a business on a platform someone else owns.

As for the rules, no one will explain it to you. It's a rule, it's there and that's that. Whether it saddens you or not.

  • That was going to be my sig for all of my posts here on out. Of course I made it at the same time as my thread that's just common sense. If you look at every signature there is in here they are all promotional. Oh well.

    Off to making a website.

Yeah, but we don't all start threads about our signature every time out signature changes. If that were allowed this forum would get very ridiculous very fast. Yes, all sigs are promotional, but those following the rules don't refer to them in their posts. They let them stand as their own advertisement to get clicked because they are worthy.

    It isn't.

Many Warriors link to their lenses/hubs. But they don't make posts that draw attention to their sig-files.

      ??

Your own web site. Not a "pre-made" web site.

Nope, it's not. When it refers to pre-made sites/pages, the rules are talking about the affiliate pages that certain programs give to all their members. You see this more with MLMs but also with other things.

Squidoo, HubPages, Blogger - these are all considered your own page for the purposes of a signature because you control what is put on those pages. At least, for however long the other site lets you.

One would think so, I know, from a literal reading of the rules. But there are "interpretations" and "precedents" as well, really. (For a start, people are allowed to link to their own WSO's here, and those are clearly not on a site they themselves own, are they? The reality is that lenses/hubs are acceptable, from the forum's perspective.)

Hmm... when I asked help desk about this a few months ago they said I had to own the domain if I wanted it in my signature. (I asked after I was told I should remove the link to my Blogger site I had before I bought my own domain.)

As for the WSOs, the rules specifically say that is okay.

That's the point. You didn't really refer to anything in that post. All you said was that you may have found the secret. It's called a 'teaser', and it appeared to have the sole purpose of getting people to click your sig link.

The fact that it leads to a Squidoo lens isn't the problem. The way you chose to draw attention to it was.

You ARE allowed to include links to your own blogger blogs, Squidoo lenses, etc in your signature. You are not allowed to self-promote in the body of discussion posts. That includes most "see my sig" references.
