Do You Need A Website To Make Money Online?

A few years ago there seemed to be lots of schemes available claiming you could start a profitable online business with no website.

Maybe that was the case when PPC cost $0.05 and you could link direct to a clickbank affiliate product, convert a few sales and earn some commissions.

Nowadays it seems eveyone needs to work much harder, what with presell pages, review sites and the absolute necessity to build a list.

Does anyone here still believe it is possible to make money online without having your own website or blog or some sort of web presence.

I know there is currently a product doing the rounds claiming you can make thousands by using adwords to link directly to amazon so that may be an option? (at least until everyone starts doing it and the cost per click sky rockets).

Web 2.0 sites are great for beginner, however, I must agree with you to build some MEGA sites that you have full control for serious online business.

It's still possible but I think it would take some advanced strategies to make it happen.

For the average person looking to start earning online, they would need a good in-demand product, attractive website and some starter cash. By in-demand product, I'm not referring to the latest guru launch. Most successful websites have absolutely nothing to do with Internet marketing niches.

This company is more concerned with separating people from their money than helping them earn money. Especially if they are targeting beginners. Adwords is no place for those just getting started with earning online.

although it may be possibile to make some money without a website, it's easier to
make more with a website. Just like you can make money just as an affiliate but
it's easier to make more money with your own product.

I believe it's pretty much like the offline world: you can make money being a salesman,
but the owner of the company is probably making more money ;°)

I think you definitely do need websites for IM

There are ways available, like using youtube to promote clickbank products, but it can be tricky.

In a world of free blogs like blogger why wouldn't you want a website???

in Affiliate Marketing. Squidoos, Blogger... even make it easy for a newbie to
set up a landing page without the hassle of searching for web designers and all
the stuff that goes with it.

I definitely agree that it is better to have a website. And nowadays it is pretty easy to figure out even if you do not have technical skills. I find that it makes you more professional looking and therefore people are more likely to trust you.

Also I love the fact that if I own a domain name i have the option of selling the website if I'd like a bigger chunk of change quickly.

Using Adwords is an expensive upfront investment. If you have enough money to invest in adwords, you have enough money to pay $8 for a domain name, $8 to get your website hosting set up, and $60-100 or so to get a minisite created for you, or a wordpress theme tweaked/customized to your needs.

Or you could go the blogspot route and have a free blog, or weebly, or blinkweb.

I made money without a website by writing articles and driving traffic to a squidoo lens that featured a clickbank product, but think of it this way - I could have sold that, if it were a website, but Squidoo lenses tend to sell for a lot less.

I believe that longterm, having your own website is a much more profitable/sustainable business.

There's still some money left with direct linking methods (I should know, I've affectively been using it with Myspace MyAds), but as competition increases and more affiliates are jumping on board, a pre-sell page/landing page may be essential. But who really knows.

Thanks to everyone who posted a reply.

I too have seen many produts which say you dont need your own website but then go on to tell you that you must create a landing page or squeeze page?

The general opinion is that you do need a website. Even those that dont have their own website do have a web presence in the form of a free blog, a squidoo lens or myspace page.

The point is, that to a newbie the idea of setting up their own webpage would seem like hard work, especially if they aren't particularly technical so the promise of easy money for no effort does of course sound appealing.

Internet marketing should like any other be treated as a real business which requires effort in order to reap rewards, and for those who make the effort, the rewards can be quite high.

I dont think you need a website but i think it makes things a lot easier. There are still clever ways to make money online, but anymore, people are so defensive about possible scams, that it will probably seem shady to most. They want something 'tangible', they want to make a connection with who they are sending their money to. Most dont realize that a website isnt any more 'true' than any other medium, but if thats what makes them more likely to spend their money with you, so be it.

You can earn $ by promoting affiliate product. But website is needed to mark your "presence" and name branding.

Like offline world, people still comfortable to deal with the people they know and buy from them.

Recently i bought a book from e... i knew it definitely a re-cyle of his previous work buy i still buy it and coz of his big name ... see name branding is important !
