No You Do Not Have To Be A Whiz Kid Or Rocket Scientist To Set Up A Killer Membership Site

Over the last few years I have finally realised, that membership sites are a killer way to make money online. Not only that, but many of the gurus you see are not only making money with these, they are absolutely killing it online with such sites.

I have several of these sites and once you get them set up and get them going, its just about directing traffic into a nice funnel to get people to subscribe. I am using the $1 trial for 30 days route and it is working like a champ. With membership sites, you have to make it EASIER for people to say 'YES' on what you have on offer!

In all my testing the $1 trial works best, because you do not get the FREEBIE tire kickers, but real people who are looking for valuable help.

Sure not all of the people who join your sites are going to stay, but realistically you have to expect that. But you can reduce the number of unsubscribers by giving them great help, and sharing high quality info. You can even outsource someone else to create content for you, and update your membership sites for you as well. So then you can stick to your job ...which is just to keep driving lots of fresh, highly targeted traffic to your trial offer page.

Have a look at Kim Roach and Chris Farrell membership sites, To me they are classic examples of great membership sites, and I love how they give away free videos, content and make it hard for people to say NO to their offers. I do the same with my membership sites.

Quick ways to set up membership sites.

1) You can use optimize press, which is wordpress based and does all the hardwork for you. I use S2 member in conjunction with this. They are easy to set up, update and use.

2) Another good one I know of is wpmudev.org. For a price they offer a lot of plugins for wordpress based membership sites, including tiered membership and all sorts of things.

3) wpmemberchamp and wishlistmember. Both are plugins for Wordpress.

4) A very good membership solution is Digital Access Pass, also known as DAP.
WordPress Membership Plugin - Membership Script For WordPress Blogs And Regular Web Sites I use this, and many other warriors talk about how good this is.

5) Amember - It is not cheap, and has many extra functions, and I will admit it is a little bit more complex, but you can drip feed content and update things very quickly and in a orginized fashion.

Here is another thread that may help you on your quest for creating the perfect membership site.

Hope it helps.

Most of are using mobile to browse and most of these mobil phones don't have adobe flash. I am advising them that they should add complete writing explaination on their websites.
infact, that is incorrect that statement.

Most websites do not make you watch videos. We use videos on many occasions as it increases subscription levels.

Most good marketers will test, and split test and test again to see what is going to work best.

I agree that text should be used also if you are going down the video route.

I have tried setting up membership sites before, and the technical learning curve always seems to be one that makes my head hurt.

What would you suggest as the most simple solution for launching a membership site, for old folks like me?

For me, the challenge is not in the technical side, that's all cake. The challenge is what will the niche of my membership site be?

That would be because I am an amateur programmer and you are a pro. :p

I just found most of them to be overly complex to configure.

If you don't need any special customization, I'd say you could have this done FOR you for $300 - $600 (for each site). Maybe less if you hunt a little and find a good cheap guy overseas.

That way, you don't have to deal with any of the plugins, etc...

        Odesk buddy! :-) Good luck!

I guess you don't have to be a scientist, but you definitely have to have the fundamentals mastered. Regarding a niche, you have to do some research to get one that has some gravity and makes people want to view your product or become a member. People need relevant information to assure them that their membership means something to them.

By the way - that is a cool WordPress Membership plug-in. Check it out!

yes when it comes to setting up the site, I hire or outsource someone who can do this better than what I can do. I like odesk and elance.....Actually I admit it, when it comes to technical stuff on the computer I am a dummy...LOL.... but when it comes to marketing, that is different....so I just outsource the stuff I cannot do, and then market hard core to make that money back I spent. Simple!

Just like above, it is not that expensive to have one of these sites setup for you, if you want to outsource it. And even it does cost you money, you can recoup that money back pretty quickly if you have good offer and get targeted traffic to your site.

I do both, granted technical better than marketing, you should pride yourself on your marketing ability, it's much more difficult than lot of technical stuff like programming.
