Which is the best e-store platform

I am looking to build an online store selling physical goods (diy kitchen cabinets) and looking for the best all-in-one platform to do that I'm considering either Shopify.com or BigCommerce.com.

I'm wondering if anyone here has had experience with either of these and would like to share their opinion. Or maybe recommend something else entirely.

Thanks in advance
Vlad

I have heard good things about Shopify.com so you can try that.

Shopify is probably the more popular of the two, but BigCommerce does look good as well!

I think Shopify is better than BigCommerce, because it's have more templates than bigcommerce.

But I still recommend to use Wordpress/ Opencart. Your cost will be much lower and you don't need to pay the sales fee.

Wordpress/ Opencart is also have more templates and plugins. So, it'll be a lot of easier & flexible to tweak your store.

Thanks elexmedia, I'll have a look at opencart as well. Just thought that having a dedicated platform was possibly better in terms of payment processing, reporting, inventory, etc... On the other hand, maybe the opencart + some WP plugins will do the same job. Definitely a less expensive way to go!

Try PrestaShop (PrestaShop - Build an online store with PrestaShop - Free Open-source E-commerce Software) It's an open source e-commerce software with tons of powerful features and it works for both physical and digital products.

PrestaShop looks good Gama! Does it work as a backend plugin to an existing site or is it an actual platform for building a site on?

Yeah, it is a very nice e-commerce platform with a very solid back-end.
It is a stand alone e-commerce platform, you can also use plugins if you want to add more functionality just like WordPress.

Thanks Gama, I've just been looking at their site, looks very impressive I've got to say. But do you have to be a web developer or at least very advanced technically to set it all up and make it work?

Volusion looks good as well, but I think it'll end up being a lot more like the Shopify or BigCommerce, which is all ok except I'm even more confused now than before, lol.

Really like the look of PrestaShop though...

No experience with Shopify, sorry. Big Commerce is excellent as is Magento. The real answer depends on how much PHP, CSS and HTML you know, how much you want to customize your website, how much you want to spend and how many products you have.

I have moved all of my websites over to Zulu Cart. Although I have no problem working with CSS, HTML and a little PHP, why should I if I don't have to? With Zulu Cart, everything is drag and drop, point and click. You don't have to ever go into your cPanel because you can modify everything right in the Admin Panel. You can get your site to look exactly the way you want in any colors or fonts that you want and don't have to know how to do anything more complicated than you would have to know to use Microsoft Word. I also found Zulu Cart to be a more affordable solution for websites the size of mine.

One that hasn't been mentioned and is just awesome is 3dcart.com. I had a couple stores with them 3 or 4 years ago, and the support was phenomenal. Prices are pretty good too, and they're SEO friendly.

I second using Zulucart. It is perfect for beginners. I am new to internet marketing, I had no problem setting up my store because the user interface is newbie friendly. I am still looking for dropshippers, in the meantime, I have affiliate links set up in my store.

The Zulucart people have a website called storecoach which basically holds your hand through setting up an ecommerce site, they have an amazing amount of free tools and training videos, really the best website I have come across, especially for beginners. (www.storecoach.com)

i would suggest using shopperpress theme to set up your own e-commerce or even affiliate site. Been using it for a few years and am still happy using it. it allows e-payment with lots of payment system.

If there's anything that you sell & think you're going to be selling across multiple channels I worked with some software called channel advisor a while back. Full integration with your payment processors for refunds etc. & definitely makes it easy when it comes to training someone to perform customer service. It's the only software I've used though so I suppose I am going to be a bit bias.
