I now most of us at least in the marketing community are used to buying ebooks at $97

Do you think over the past couple of years though that has changed?

Are people still willing to hand over $97 for just an ebook or does it have to come with other things?

Do you think that $97 is no longer a sweet spot for ebook sales, and maybe a lower price of $47 is?

So on average what do you think is a sweet spot for pricing just an ebook, no audio or videos?

You can't put a price on something that you can't evaluate.. there are PLENTY of e-books that I would gladly play $97 and more for.. and there are others that I wouldn't pay $9 for..

It's the content that counts.. there is no "sweet spot" in my opinion, aside from the one that is the true value of the content being served..

I agree, I guess when you compare books in a store, usually they are around $30 max its funny how ebooks get priced at $97 online

Ebooks only get priced at $97 online if they are in the "make money" market.

Nothing else gets priced with the "7's" at the end. Only people who do internet marketing.

Most likely other e-books would be priced around 9.95 or 19.95

              HA!

The MMO niche is underpricing their products.

It's all about Nuclear Energy, folks

Check out this eBook... yes, it is in fact an eBook and costs a meager $6,232.00.

Of course, you are receiving free wireless delivery via Amazon Whispernet included in the price.

You gotta check out the customer reviews.... PRICELESS!

I like that the people who bought this report from amazon also bought books like "Dirty Deeds" and "Wild Card". All of the books has some kind of half naked people on the cover.

Gives you some information about this Nuclear Energy sientists and their interrests.

If I am paying 97 I would usually expect more than just a book. Perhaps some video tutorials ? I suppose it would really depend on the subject though.

If you live in the U.S., just take a stroll through WalMart today. You'll find that THOUSANDS of items, from keychains to fabric are priced with a 7 at the end. (I did this just this week...)

Does that make it the right thing to do? Nope.

You have to test this stuff. It's very individual for the product/copy/market.

    Test, Test, Test.

    Then test some more.

    Cheers,

I think people would still be willing to spend $97 on an ebook.

If that ebook contains methods that can be used to generate much more money than it costs then it becomes an investment.

Impossible question to answer without knowing the context and competition.

I have many clients that have found their "sweet spot" price at $97 for an ebook and others who have taken the same content in the ebook, turned it into a physical product and get $197 or more for it.

Really depends on the niche, how well you have targeted an urgent - passionate desire and, to a lesser extent, competition.

Let's say you have a technique that can improve a sales person's ability to generate leads by 50% - you write it up in a 40-page ebook, would that sell for $97 to a sales person - of course it would!

It's all about how you position your content and how unique it is.

Yeah interesting feedback. I guess ultimately it depends on what they are offering to help you with, what you already know, and how badly you want to know

Certainly silly screenshots of paypal and clickbank dont do it for me anymore, as those can be fudged easily and I think they dont prove anything.

But give me someone who is telling me something I want to know and I want to know badly, I will pay out

Here is what gets me. I was on a website a few nights ago where they wanted $97 for their program. If you tried to exit the window a pop-up came up and offered the program for a one time only price of $49. That would not have been so bad but if you exited the pop-up another pop-up opens up and offers the whole thing for just $7. Now, I don't know how the rest of you feel but if I see it go from $97 to a final offer of $7, then first off I feel like your begging for the sale and second off I have to wonder how good the content really is.

Am I right or am I wrong on this. I welcome all comments.

For me, it is all about great content. And if selling a product, I am looking to add real value to it. Make it into a $97 product or even $147. Cracks me up how people try to go around peddling $7 ebooks and wondering why they can't make money online. Money is there to be made. Make a great product and sell it for more money. Simple.

It depends on the quality of conent in the book as most people on here have said...

      For me, personally...

I am a bargain shopper...both online and off...

I would unlikely pay $97 for an ebook if I can find my answers to my questions for FREE on Google or...

In a book at Barnes and Noble for $19.95...

Someone here said something along these lines in a previous post...

"If you price an ebook at $97, and Amazon is selling the same information in a physical book for $19.95, well...you either have to give away a ton of bonuses or you have a lot...A LOT...of explaining to do to justify your $97 price tag."

I totally agree with him (or her)...

Hope this helps. Have a good weekend.

There's no reason to charge $97 for just an ebook. At the very least, read the entire ebook chapter by chapter and include a bonus of the "audio book" version.

That immediately gives you the right to set the price higher.

Throw in a quick-start guide, and a couple of small, quality bonuses, and the higher price can be very fair.

I know I am not in the norm, but I have never paid $97 for just an ebook.
Quality PLR, yes (and more), but not just for an ebook.

And for that reason I will probably never be able to sell just an ebook for $97.

It's hard to generalize, so what it really comes down to is what is in the ebook. If the ebook has material in it that can improve your business and has methods in it that can't be found elsewhere, then maybe.

I remember back in college, books were $97-150 range, of course they were packed with material, so it's really about what it can do for you. Some stuff shouldn't be $97 and some stuff can be justified to be $97. Of course I agree with many of you that added videos or resources could help add perceived value to the ebook.

Everything depends on the content and the perceived value of that ebook. The seller must over deliver e.g. adding more value to that ebook (script, software, course, free phone consultation, etc.). This way you can sell that ebook at $97 price tag either way at $197. If you have an established relationship with a well targeted audience, then there is no problem with this.

What concerns to the '10 ebooks for $9' kind of offers, well... you get what you pay for IMO.

This is a question very close to my heart because I have a report that will make anybody successful by supporting rather than exploiting off line businesses.

The report is unique and very simple - bloody obvious when you see it - but the advice I am getting is to give it away and build a continuity/residual income.

What this does, as far as I am concerned, is take a valuable report that can have a half competent internet marketer creating an income of $1,000 a week and a residual income of $120 a week (in the real world) and reduce it to the same old dross level of all the give-aways that litter the IM scene.

This is a unique product. It works. I do not think I can create enough unique content to have a continuity programme and yet nobody seems able to come up with anything except what appears to be the current IM thinking - give it away.

I know that as soon as I do bring it to market, this will be devalued by the IMers who will steal it, copy it and give it away in the vain hope of building a responsive list from giveaways (another IM fairy story).

I think that the key to earning $1,000 a week has a true value far in excess of "give it away" or $7 but such is the scramble for sales in the IM world that value is no longer appreciated.

    It really baffles me.

Would agree with posters that you would want to ensure that the quality of the ebook is paramount for $97 price tag. Can't say I've actually seen one in the $97 price range, but if the information relevant and of high quality, and by a top author, I don't think most people would have any trouble paying that price. Typically I think those kind of deals come packaged tutorial videos or bonuses of some kind. Great thread!
