Got $5,000 To Dump Into My Site - Could Use Advice

This $5,000 will be a "test" to see how wisely I can spend my bosses money.

The reality is he has put aside $75,000 and plans on spending it over the course of the next 6 months. This first $5,000 he is allowing me to use, to see how economically/effectively I can spend it.

Once again, this is our site: Affordable basement waterproofing & water removal for entire NJ area-

Our most competitive keywords seem to be "basement waterproofing", "basement waterproofing nj", "waterproofing contractor nj", etc etc.

I have got less competitive keywords on page 1, like "affordable waterproofing nj". Or "water in my basement nj" and a couple others. But in the last 2 months I have only been able to move our site up for "basement waterproofing nj", from the bottom of page 4, all the way to the top position of page 4. In a couple weeks it will probably move to page 3.

But I noticed its moving A LOT slower now.

I think we need to get at least 5 fairly competitive keywords ranking. We also fired our ppc guy this week so I'll either be finding a new/better one, or outsourcing some landing pages and doing the PPC myself.

All I know is he sucked, he never changed the landing page, the landing page sucked, his conversions sucked, so we had to let him go. He started off good but just got really lazy over the last 6 months.

My questions are this. As far as SEO is concerned, am I better of buying gigs in the WSO forum say $99 to rank one keyword, or should I hire a full service SEO company?

I don't actually understand how hard this site will be to rank. We want to rank it for basement waterproofing keywords and a few mold keywords later in the future.

We also will need to find a competent copywriter, but I have issues going with young copywriters, don't ask me why (just tell me if I'm being naive).

NO FOCUS on offline for this test, just online for now.

What do you guys think? I'm not an expert by any means, but I do read/apply various strategies for 4-6 hours a day. For the last 7 months or so.

Is my head in the right direction? Any recommendations on who I should be contacting?

Thanks gentlemen (& ladies =])
