TeleConferencing from Aussie Land? Please Help.

OK I'm a complete newbie when it comes to TeleConferencing, in fact i tried doing it with my friend and after trying for like 30mins to get it to work....

...I eventually was told I needed a damn telephone to TeleConference....who would of thought! Haha..

Anyway my question is, I live in Australia, and want to hold a live worldwide TeleConference.

However will I be charged international call for this, and is it by the minute? I dont wanna rack up a huge phone bill lol..

Are there any good FREE services out there...and can someone please explain the basics to me.

Thanks

Ernie

    Hi Mate,

    I use www.instantteleseminars.com and
call in to the number using a cheap phone
    card.

Cant remember where I got the phone card
but it only costs me about $2 per hour of
    talk time

    Hope this helps?

    Take Care,

    Michael Silvester

I don't know of any free services but I do know the basics as I have set up a few through Optus over the years.

Basically, you need to set up an account first. And then everyone dials in to the call. This can be from worldwide and I believe that Optus even has it set up so that there are 'local' numbers you can call overseas to participate in the call (only in certain countries though!)

I've used these guys a couple of times:

    Eureka Teleconferencing - Home

Maybe not the cheapest service available but the quality is second to none.

Yup, you get a special code that lets you administer the call -- mute people, record etc -- and everyone else gets a guest code.

It's either free for them, or the cost of a local call, and you get charged usually on a per minute basis for eveyone on the line.

          Thanks for your help Kyle

The pricing per minute is the only thing I'm getting confused about.

Do I pay for every person on the call per minute? wouldnt that be very expensive?

Say I have 200 people on the call and there from the US and the charge is 30cents per mintute, here is an example Conference Call Rates from MyConference, Australia

if the call goes for 60minutes and say 200 people are calling from the US, would I be charged 0.30c X200callersX60minutes = $3600? LOL I think thats wrong...

Nope, if they charge per minute per caller, you're right.

If most of your callers are from the US it's better to go with a US-based company. Many free options over there and even if you do go for a paid one your main expense will be your own International call.

Ah I see. Ouch that is quite expensive, might have to go with a US service.

Thanks for your help Kyle, really appeciate it!

                What is the purpose?

                Are you interviewing someone??

Or are you just doing some live training call?

In the latter case you might want to get a web camera and use ustream.tv to do a live show instead of teleconference!

However if there is a group of people that you want to do the talking then teleseminars are the way to go!

Yeah it will just be a live call where the listeners can ask questions if they wish. Really excited to try it out

Trying to look for a service now.

I have done a lot of teleconferencing and its true that Instant tele seminar is pretty good.

How it works is that you as a moderator logs into the back end and set up the call. You send out the number to your guests and they can then phone in or listen via phone or a delayed flash player.

You only pay for your call and they all have to pay for their own.

Similar services in Australia are exceptionally expensive.

Alternativley you can use a conference room that many of us use which costs virtually nothing.

PM me and I can give you a demo.

                      Quentin
