Video size for Youtube

Im trying to get the best possible size for videos created using camtasia.

The default for recording full screen of desktop is showing as 1280�--720.
This size works fine at my local but not for youtube.

When i go for 640�--480, it looks good for youtube but i get to record only a smaller portion of my screen.

Is there a nice way to record full screen at 1280�--720 and then make it good for youtube and webpages?

Also any tips to add to it so it will help record better videos for youtube.

Not sure I have come across that particular problem before. I just record the full screen in Camtasia and then choose how I want it produced.

Have you tried to produce in different sizes?

I download all my videos to YouTube at 1280 x 720. Use the player to set the size.

  I always just record at the default size and then select the dimensions when I upload to You Tube using the options on the site.

Not sure if there are customization options available while posting to youtube, ill have to spend time playing with it, but do not want to go my efforts in vain..

  1280 x 720 should be your default size now for 2 reasons.
  
  1) It's a nice wide screen size which Youtube allows you to view in different sizes. I don't know about you, but that 640x480 size just screams out "2007" to me.
  
  2) 1280x720 allows for exporting in HD, which even though requires higher bandwidth and storage, Youtube still allows you to host it for free. Soooo... why not produce a video that is bigger, clearer and more impressive than your competition if it's free?

  I know this thread is old. But just FYI, 640 x 480 is 4:3 or SD resolution. For widescreen or HD viewing, it should be 640 x 360 (16:9), which is half of 1280 x 720.

Dan beat me to it - choose either 1280�--720 or 640x360

In Camtasia, simply choose 1280�--720 recording region, then record a short video and see if it looks good. I guess the quality would depend on your hardware (CPU and graphic card mostly) but you also can play with the frame rates, etc. and see if you figure it out.
