Why Indian Government Has Become Enemy Of Online Marketers

Reserve Bank Of India (RBI) holds all rights to change alter rules and regulations regarding all kinds of money related transactions that happen in India. Following are some of the biggest decisions that RBI has taken in last four years to kick Indian online marketers as well as freelancers out of online market.

  • Indians can no longer use Payoneer or any other similar service that allows receiving payments directly to credit card.
  • Limit on how much money you can receive via PayPal.
  • Can not use amount in PayPal for purchases.
  • Can not use debit card to pay via PayPal.
  • Can not use debit card to purchase any product or service if they are not registered with RBI (99% aren't)
  • Requirement of purpose code.
  • Only way you can use to receive money is wire transfer or check.
  • Indian Foreign Exchange department is corrupt they don't pass any of your foreign checks in first attempt and asks to fill some unnecessary forms and charge amount from your check. In short legalized way to steal hard earned money from someone.

I don't know I missed something or not. But above are some reasons why many Indian freelancers and online markers are quitting slowly because as soon as you come up with some solution to payment related problem, RBI a day or two later declares that your solution will no longer work.

How many Indian marketers have suffered badly due to above stupid rules and regulations imposed by RBI.

I have a lot of respect for India. I've spent months there and had a beautiful time.

    but

Governments are crazy everywhere, and the Indian gov takes some things farther than most. They charge $65 for a visa to visit. Discouraging tourist traffic probably stops more money than it brings in.

And they have to spray the plane with insecticide before landing. No idea what kind of life form they are trying to keep out of India. If there is something that isn't there already, it will be under attack within days of landing there.

On the other hand it might be a blessing in disguise. There is much more money to be made offline than there is online. Offline work usually involves physical activity, which is much healthier than computer work.

So, hope things work out well for you somehow.

I use a credit card. Paypal has always been a pain, And now RBI has simply made it worse!
I know there are some veteran marketers here who would have discovered a workaround. I'm still trying to figure stuff out when it comes to paypal.

And wire transfers work fine for me.

You can use a HDFC debit card when you wanna make payments, They have a facility for generating virtual credit cards (HDFC netsafe cards)

Here is a quote from a thread on ebay forums:

    1. Generate a new Virtual Credit Card (INR 100 would do).
    2. Enter the Credit Card details in the "Add a Credit Card" option of your PayPal account.
    3. Login to your Virtual Credit Card service (like Netsafe Login for HDFC users).
    4. Check for Transaction (Txn) Details tab.
    5. The card you added to your PayPal account will show the details something like PAYPAL*EXPUSE1234, where 1234 denotes the 4-digit number you have to enter in your PayPal account (called the Expanded Use number).

Once you have done all this, your payPal account will be verified and you shall be allowed to send and receive limitless amounts using PayPal.
Credit Card verification is also possible for people who can generate Virtual Credit Cards (in case they dont have a physical one) through NetBanking and then by entering the 'Expanded Use Number' which is available in the online statement for that Card.
PayPal payments can be withdrawn using cheque (US$ 5.0 per withdrawal) or using the third-party service at www.xoom.com (8 to 15 dollars for upto US$ 1000). Funds transferred using xoom.com can be deposited directly in your account in any of the 50 supported BANKS in India.
Please keep a copy of your address proof (same as in your xoom.com account) and ID proof handy; XOOM.com may ask you to email the same in case they wish to verify.
    Hope this helps.

As mentioned above, the RBI has prohibited all non-Indian companies from issuing credit/debit cards to Indian residents. This unfortunately includes Payoneer.

Payoneer does, however, offer a local bank transfer service to India (for participating partners). This service can be used to receive payments from partner companies that support the service, directly to your bank account in India.

They all were posted in year 2011 its 2012 now. I think it was February 2012 when above options were closed by RBI.

I am simply guessing here and by no means am an expert on the topic and I mean no disrespect to anyone in India, but could it be that because India has had so many scammers arise from your country, that they are trying to prevent any more of it?

Kind of like reputation management or something?

I thought long and hard weather I should reply to this post or not, But I guess clarifying things would help you understand the situation a little better.

While I agree that scams do originate from India at times, That is not why the RBI decided to put regulations in place. It was simply to have more "control" over the people. You see, We have a very corrupt Government And a lot of citizens trying to dodge the Income Tax department. (Yea, we're majorly screwed)

The RBI put these regulations in place to tackle issues like "money laundering". (The main reason why paypal would not extend its services to pakistan)

Hope this clears things up a bit.

So you would have to find companies online that will pay you with a check. There are many of them like clickbank. If you are doing MLM, just make sure that your company will be sending you a check so that you can get paid. Many companies pay through paypal so before you sign up, ask them how you are going to get paid.

Every foreign check takes at least one month to arrive at doorstep and usually remains valid only for three months if its affiliate commission payment, if not cashed within that interval we may have to request that payment again.

Payment processing takes more than a month if our foreign exchange department approves check for payment. We are left with no option than to pay for intentionally imposed procedures via some % of amount from check else wait for next 4 months for payment.

Hmmm, good point. Although if I had it my way the only entity that would be allowed to be bashed in this forum would governments. Any of them and all of them, for whatever reason, no proof of statements needed, and you would have to embellish what you are accusing them of at least 3 fold. All this just to keep a healthy disdain for government alive.

Well I see them another way round: - (My Version)

    1. You can verify your PayPal using Indian Bank Account, its plain & Simple.
    2. These days you can get CC easily in India & if you are in remote locations just open a FD for INR 25000 with ICICI or HDFC Bank and you will get CC instantly without any hitches.
    3. Auto Withdraw is something I like, at least your money will be safe now in your Bank account. While if you have any Refunds contact Support of PayPal and they will arrange to debit your CC for this.
    4. Don’t have CC - Just try entropay.com - They will create a Virtual Credit Card with a Validity of 1 Year with auto renew every year. It can be loaded very easily with any Indian Debit Card as they use VBV & 3D secure network.
    5. Export Related payment limit has already been increased to 3000$ way back.
    6. Many IM company had already started giving options of Wire Transfer to India. I receive payment from 2CO through this easily.
    7. And if you are getting payment from a Company through PayPal and if they are using the system of Mass Payment, you will get the payment to your PayPal without any hitches. Only Direct receiving of payment from a Person through PayPal Balance is restricted, while they had to use the CC to send you payment.
    8. The measures are taken by RBI not to harass the IM but because now a days there are number of instances rising in the country of giving cheap funds transfer/ winning of Millions of Dollars in some Contest etc.. to India with fulfillment of certain conditions like sending them Money/ giving them CC details or Bank Account Details. For this these all measures has been started. It definitely creates block for IM but if you take this in a broader prospective it’s for the help for peoples.

      @Abhishek

Does this work with all banks in India (both credit and debit cards)?

I'm asking because some card issuing banks (specially government banks) have blocked money from being transferred to virtual wallets like Entropay, Neteller and others, seemingly because they are used for online gaming and stuff like that which is prohibited by RBI.

Which Indian bank cards are best for funding Entropay?

Entropay works with all Debit Card & Credit Cards issued in India for funding.

Problem with Neteller was, it used main for gaming & that is not the case for entropay - its primary and most usage is for shopping & uses verified by visa & 3D Secure system.

I recently funded on 3 June 2012 with my State Bank Debit Card and it was just fine. I also use ICICI Debit & Credit card sometimes.

          One more question:
Does the Entropay Virtual Card have your name printed on it?
I noticed from some sites that it simply mentions "Entropay User" where usually the card holder's name should be.

Will this create a problem while paying to sites that require you to enter your full name?

It will show the Entropay user only. But wherever the card are accepted you just write your name & it will work fine.

    Hi,

    I'm also from India

Get a credit card. As mentioned above, you can easily get credit card against FD from HDFC. Most of the problems can be solved once you get a Credit card.

I never faced any problems in clearing foreign Checks. It takes around 12-14 days to reach and another 30 days to clear. SBI is very fast in clearing checks and it takes only 7-10 days. Both Clickbank and Amazon checks cleared under 10 days.

    Hope it helps

All the rules in the OP does not prevent you from making money online , selling affiliate products or ANY sort.

You only have to take a different route that has less chances of involving illegal activities which is good...

One example if you cant pay from your PP balance, pay from your CC and move your PP balance to your bank account . Just a circular route.

The RBI terms greatly reduces scammers and those who escape from the income tax.

    Legit business always has options..
