Why do some threads get tons of views while others only get a few?

I'm a newbie and this is what I noticed.

Why do some threads get tons of views while others only get a few?

I see some threads get hundreds or event thousands of view and replies while others that were poster earlier than the popular threads get only a few views? Sometimes the titles of popular threads are not even that inviting.

Are the guys with a few views doing something wrong?

Its all about the headline, I for one (and probably most) don't have time to read every post. So your headline has to grab my interest to get me to click through and read it.

When I'm scanning the forums I'm looking for headlines that make me think 'I might be able to answer this one' or 'I need the answer to that too'

    hope that helps, have fun

Let me suggest that the topics has to appeal to the viewer at some level.

Which do you think will get the most views?

Cold Calling - How I made $800 last week.

      or

How I made $800 last week with links in my Warrior Forum signature.

      Just my opinion.

Headline, headlines, headlines... Paired with the name of the submitter or the last person to answer the thread.

Some people in the forum have a following, and that could make all the difference in the world for the post... But the headline still needs to attract interest.

The headline has to draw people's attention. The thread title makes such a difference.

Those are usually the threads that have been continually bumped by the OP
The ones getting the fewest views are playing by the rules.

It totally depends on the topic which you have chossen.
It should be specific and interesting so that you get maximum clicks on your link.

    I believe it's a combination of topic + headlines.

Not just one of these two.

i.e. You can have the most inviting headline in the history but if it's on a topic I'm not interested, I'm not clicking it.

It's about the combination of 3 things:

    1. Your copy / how you write
    2. The content of your thread
    3. Relevance to the Forum

If you do well on all three, I can assure your thread will get a lot of views.

Some of us are just amazingly popular. It's just like High School.

But really, it comes down to the subject matter in the beginning. Get enough attention and it's like a snowball effect. Sometimes it's everyone tripping over each other to say "great thread!" and other times it is a complete clusterf*** of arguing.

High thread views/posts isn't always what it is made out to be anyways. You should only care about having your questions answered or helping someone else out. Unless you are just worried about sig exposure...

Always ask yourself why you click on a thread. It's all about the headline. If it's interesting, you click. Some are less interesting than others. It's that simple.

The headline, the subject, and whether it's a question that has been asked and answered a million times before.

At first, it is the headline.

      Then comes the thread content.

If the content is good and there is enough reason for people to respond, you will automatically have your thread bumped anytime someone replies.

This causes your thread to remain in the top section of the forum and so it will receive more views, more replies and this will be a natural growth cycle.

      ---

Note. I along with many other fellow warriors hate it when the thread title is big and shiny yet the thread offers nothing in the way of discussion, information etc.

Writing an 'attractive' headline is very import to catch the eyes of Warriors.
Before writing your headline, think about if you are looking through the threads would you yourself click on your thread given with that headline?
Is your headline helpful to people?

It's a copywriting job. And also... repeat questions and posts within the thread by the thread starter.

agreed that it is the headline that catches the attention. Just another point of view is that what are the members trying to achieve when they are viewing the threads, are they seeking help or are they providing help. I think that would also affect the popularity of the thread.

    Just my 2 cents~

    Cheers

I think it's all to do with title. Long, clear catchy title on hot topic should drive views like crazy.

I think it depends on the title and the need at the moment. For example a money making thread will always be popular but a thread about Google update will be popular only for a few days.

More than headlines, it's topics that allow people to get on a soapbox or is an emotional subject that divides the readership fairly evenly.

While the headline/suject is nice, it will only get a thread read once. However, threads that get people to post in them will be bumped to the top of the forum. And these threads will be read more than once by people reading new responses.

To gain traction, I think a thread needs to have a good, informative title that's attractive. If a popular (or knowledgeable) poster gets involved in a thread that's about a popular subject, the thread can explode. The same can happen if it is a polarizing topic (ie. spinning).

Yes, headline is the answer..and it is the answer among most warriors repeatedly. Since 2001 this has worked for me in online marketing. I just finished an ad swipe file minisite which is easily in the top 5 ... and this one has new explosive headlines you never layed eyes on.

I will be putting that out as a WSO soon after my timeline cover project.
They can make your headlines stand out, and get a lot more views.

How the headlineline is setup, each word, symbol, where the caps are, brackets, exclamation points, etc... all ties in to how catchy the headline turns out. These are the people who are getting the most views. Proof-reading the headline is a definite.

Put that together with extra advertising and it'sa win-win situation!

Headlines, Topics discussed , How "HOT" the topic is , I am sure Facebook + crappy headline will get some views as long as you throw in some $$$ figures as a headline, of course controversial topics are always awesome to participate in....

A lot of the time at has to do with the headline, if it is not interesting then no on will bother to read the post. I look at it as practice for copywriting, if you can better at that then you're doing good.

    Cheers!
