Is the "free" keyword worth targeting?

Does anybody have any insights into whether or not people who search using the word "free" might become buying customers in the future if you capture their e-mail address and promote to them? I am not just talking about people who sign up for free things, but people who are actively searching for "free" something of a product that almost certainly is not free.

People who are looking for pirated versions of products will jump aboard your list, but only if your promoting free stuff to them. I don't have any statistics but people who are looking for freebies or pirated software don't jump aboard a list very often to buy lots of things

If they use the word FREE they are not looking to buy. It is logical. It depends on what you do but just the word free is not enough. It should be free lunch or free software or waht ever it is you want to target. Targeting a group is one of if not the most important part of marketing. Think about it if you find 100% of the people who are not interested in your products they are worth nothing.

It is the word that is partnering the FREE that is more important.

Free xxx, draws attention but not the kind of buying attention you will get with Buy xxx, XXX reviews, Best Price XXX etc. However, it does work if it is a benefit such as Free Shipping, Free Bonus with Purchase...

Ok, let me give a more concrete example. Let's say someone searches for "free guitar lessons". Clearly they do not want to pay, but they want some lessons on the guitar. They will probably find some decent content on the web, actually. Do you think this person is worth having on your list considering that they are interested in the guitar and maybe in the future they are ready for higher quality paid guitar lessons?

It's a possibility that they may buy it in the future if they haven't found what they are looking for. Remember it will need to be cheap for them though.
