When was your Independence/Freedom Day?

With independence day coming later this week in USA. Thought I would ask this question. When was your independence/freedom day from "the man" or a job you hated?

I remember around 12 years ago I got a part time job for a white collar type stuff. Boring yes but not really HARD work. The first week of training I would LITERALLY puke my guts out each day before going to work. No I wasn't "sick" my mind just couldn't handle working for someone else going to a JOB. It was crazy. It just felt like such a waste to work for someone else when I knew I could do something on my own. Well that was the last job I QUIT.

Though I didn't make a much money and was still living with family etc.. I had some small success in mlm and other marketing but dug myself in DEBT.

Got a call in 2001 to move to North carolina from michigan. I was single at the time and needed to get out on my own and out of the cold. A job moved down to NC but it was a different kind of job. It was writing a newsletter and working 95% out of the apartment that I rented. They just wanted me close to where they lived. Well I had a salary that paid rent etc.. Junkie car but learned a good deal and the business had big UPs and big downs. I was laid off at one point, brought back on but just commissions.

After about 4 years got married and the biz owner gave me the business. There wasn't much of a business left due to the industry it was in etc.. But it was something. But I struggled with it a while. My first year of marriage my income was a whooping $7,000! Thankfully my wife worked at the time.

God did bless the business with some growth over the years. Mostly just in the 20-40k range after a couple of years. Then the last 4 years have each been over $100k a year.

So I don't have SPECIFIC freedom/independence day. I do still remember me throwing up each day prior to my last "job" At least the last job that felt like a job.

Now I feel that independence/freedom all the time. I get to work from home with my 3 kids and wife not to far away. I can take spur of the moment trips when I want to. (last year woke up asked my wife if she wanted to go to fl for a week she said sure we were packed up and on the road in 2 hours those kind of things are GREAT!)

No boss telling me when I need to be back. Sure I don't take "vacations" like the normal person I usually put in an hour or two at least even when I am on a trip/vacation but its stuff that I like. I don't have to be back on such and such a date. (My kids are young so that may change as they get busier lives)

So just like the many men that risked their lives signing a piece of paper 200+ years ago, take a risk and find some independence and freedom in your life if you haven't done so already.

Just like the men who signed in 1776, their was LOTS of work to do after they signed. Many wars to fight but they didn't quit and you shouldn't either!

Have a great week
Steve

Haven't worked a job since 2006 and the day I realized I didn't have to go back was when I made five figures in one week. Then I just went crazy to keep the money coming!
Some people may find independence working their job they love!

I guess technically it was April 1st of 2011. I woke up that morning, turned to my then girlfriend, and said "I'm f***ing sick of Burger King. I'm not going back to work."

I worked a few other jobs after that to supplement and keep myself going, but nothing that I hated. Thus, I pick the BK quit date as my date of freedom.

While I still work for the man, I started my first site a week or so ago and I hope that I am in the last battle for my freedom! Maybe I can say in a couple months or so that I work from home full-time at which point, I hope that my efforts will have paid off!

And she looked puzzled and said, "Okay, but what does one have to do with the other?"

I apparently love working for the man. I have 4 computer/IT certifications, and i dont want to let those certifications go to waste. Nothing wrong with a core job and an internet income that can help me to live a lavish lifestyle. My girlfriend loves it, so i'll continue just to make her happy.

I've been making a living online for over 12 years, but before that, worked in the IT industry. I don't regret a single day working in IT. I loved it. I love working for myself more, but I didn't hate my jobs. I learned a great deal from all the jobs I've had.
