Help Me Choose A Domain Name!

Howdy fellow warriors,

I'll get right to the point: I launched a tattoo website (although still under construction) last week and now I'm having doubts about the domain name I chose.

Currently the site is up at TheTattooFanatic.com, which I thought was a very catchy, easy to remember name.

The trouble is that over the weekend I discovered and purchased another domain name, TheTattooAddict.com, and now I'm unsure as to which domain name I should really use.

I was hoping some of my fellow warriors could help me decide by telling me which url they prefer.

If you don't like either, what domain name would you suggest?

As always, everyone's help is greatly appreciated!

Is it safe to assume you're building a site on tattoos? Outside of that...are you trying to sell tattoo safety? tattoo designs? pictures of girls in bikinis covered in tattoos? religious literature talking about how evil tattoos are? anti-religious literature talking about how abso-freaking-fantastic tattoos are?

Give us a little more to go on...

agreed with this. the domain will depend on what type of content you're posting on that website. it will at least give me a better idea of which name fits.

Right now the site is going to focus on tattoo design, tattoo care, tattoo removal, and tattoo artist training

Its kind of a general tattoo interest site

For myself, I would want "tattoo" to be the first word in the domain-name, and not have "the" in front of it.

(Yes, I know that plenty of people believe that won't make any difference. It would for me, though ).

I'd be looking at things like tattoo-action.com, tattoo-reality.com, and so on.

What Alexa said is very important for SEO purposes. Google & Bing read from left to right. If you have the word "the" as the first word, they assume that that's part of your keyword for that domain.

Even if you don't plan on really SEO'ing your site, it helps not to handicap yourself from the start.

Tattoo Addict sounds more catchy, but that is just a personal preference. It depends on ultimately, what are your targeted keywords and the product that you're trying to promote?

These days, I believe the exact match domains aren't the only key factor any longer, and if you were to theoretically build both sites similarly with the same content, there wouldn't be any significant difference between the two domains.

Both domains are greats, tatoo fanatic will be more relevant to people who loves tatoo and the other one tatoo adict is very catchy, why any one would to know more about the pro and the con of tatoo... that is my 2 cents

Other caution about choosing your domains is to make sure you have enough search volume even better some buyers keywors into it so that you know you will make money. I hope that helps

  • I personally dislike domains with "The" at the beginning, but anyway out of the two I prefer "Fanatic" over "Addict".

I think this (TheTattooAddict.com) is preferable.

As you seem to be targeting people who have tattoos and not people who like looking at tattoos then TheTattooAddict is more appropriate.

Of course, I would have to make a research on this first prior to selecting the domain name that I want. Just like what you're doing right now. You're asking for our suggestions.

    But on a first-impression-basis, I'd choose TheTattooAddict.com.
