How Should I Sell My Crowdfunding Ebook? Help!

A while back I wrote a bunch of articles about crowdfunding. Total about 13,000 words.

I put them on the back burner and then realized they might make a good ebook. I sat around futzing around when I suddenly met up with owners and execs at two of the biggest crowdfunding websites. It all happened on the same day!

So I go back to my articles and realize they're very good. I did a lot of research on them. All I need to do is a wee bit of editing and add a few internal links and design a cover (I'm an illustrator so no prob).

But now I'm stuck at should I sell it as a WSO, ebook, PLR, sell it outright or what?

Don't know where it fits in the grand scheme of things.

Any suggestions would help.

How about putting it on Kindle (ebook) and CreateSpace (physical book)? Personally, I wouldn't bother trying to sell it as a WSO since it's not software or a money-making system. And the topic doesn't have a broad enough appeal for PLR.

    • A lot of people don't understand crowdfunding, so as Gail says it would probably work well as a Kindle book.

The recent incident with the bus monitor who received close to $700,000 in donations through IndieGoGo is an example most people will comprehend.

I can see you promoting your ebook through article marketing and becoming the crowdfunding expert.

One thing I tell people all the time, is that if you have something on your harddrive then you have a gold mine. Especially if you wrote it.

Ebooks are great. they are the new article marketing, and it allows us to stop writing for free. But unless you hit a home run you are not going to retire off them...they become a portion of the income we have.

But when these ebooks point to something else, they lead people somewhere, much like article marketing back in the day, then we have something.

The question becomes, what does this ebook with 13,000 words lead people too, to a membership site, product, to something that costs more than $2.99?

Not only will you be making cash off the work you have allready done, but now you will be creating some wealth from the marketing the book produces....

    You're right Plongmire!

I've known that for some time. Dropping links, vids with links, audio to an ebook is like a traffic funnel. If you have endpoints for the readers to go to an upsell or joining your list etc. then you have multiple endpoints. Luckily there are a few things to upsell to. Hopefully this will put a few dollars in my pocket.

I have to disagree with the consensus here. I do believe a WSO would be a great way to get a buzz and launch your product. There is a lot of interest and the only other WSO on this topic is poorly managed. Se it here==> http://www.warriorforum.com/warrior-...u-can-too.html

I personally bought it and I would buy yours.

Acurren, there has to be more data on crowdfundiing on WF. I'm getting people from WF contacting me with all sorts of ideas but I figured the crowdfunding niche was well represtned on WF. Besides I haven't had much luck with WSOs. It's like a hassle to put one up and then more trouble down the line. Not an expert at WSOs so am looking at other venues.

      Hi William,

You might have to read the book!

Actually crowd funding is a way people online or offline gather money for a cause or purpose. They ask lots of people for smaller funds. I'll give you an example.

My pal is head of the Pentagon's legal team. He's THE lawyer for the entire military. My other pal is a higher up in the nation's sheriff's groups. We all help veterans. I might say "Let's raise money to help veterans" and we would go to a crowdfunding site to ask people to donate. We might need money to buy wheelchairs, clothes, who knows?

Another example is you might need to raise money to get more equipment for your business. You would solicit some funds to do so that way.

Do you see now? My crowd funding book will be out in a few days. Working on the Kindle stuff now.

Hollywood screenwriter? I live in a swarm of screenwriters. Many are friends who have been begging me to do graphic novels of their screenplays because the studios will now look at a comic book screenplay if it's already illustrated. It's like insane! So for a comics writer/artist like myself I'll be in the catbird seat soon. Already had three comics of mine optioned for film and will again.

Would love to chew the fat with ye!

As far as I can tell, Ken's trying to make a funny about crowdsourcing.

Crowdsourcing is a distributed problem-solving and production model. In the classic use of the term, problems are broadcast to an unknown group of solvers in the form of an open call for solutions. Users--also known as the crowd--submit solutions. Solutions are then owned by the entity that broadcast the problem in the first place--the crowdsourcer. The contributor of the solution is, in some cases, compensated either monetarily, with prizes, or with recognition.

I would say before you sell it to anyone you should talk to a lawyer first.

Since crowdfunding deals with issuing share of the company it comes under the securities laws and regulations which if a broken can land you in some serious trouble.

Now I don't know if you are licensed to give investment advice or not but either way I'd say consult an attorney to make sure your $9 ebook doesn't get you 15 years behind bars.

      Hi, thanks for the input.

First of all I'm not giving investment advice. This is a guide book to what crowdfunding is, where it came from and some strategies to make the best of it. The SEC data is in the ebook and I've got more attorneys on hand than is needed for.

Also, crowd funding has nothing to do with issuing shares of a company. Read up on crowd funding with the link below to understand what it is.

I work with an army of attorneys in various areas including family. I've got so many legal resources it's incredible but my family has been in the country since the first lawyers arrived.

So I know a large amount of the country's top attorneys as we grew up together.

That being said, I've added links to the ebook to the legal resources the citizen should be aware of especially the latest court decisions that have freed up the restrictions in the crowd funding industry much to the pleasure of Congress and the President. Wrong. Crowdfunding does not deal with the issuing of shares of the company. That is crowdfinance. Crowd 'funding' gives 'rewards,' to people who make contributions.

OP I believe I wrote the very first book on crowdfunding in 2011. Shoot me a PM if you want to brainstorm.

        Great!

What's the name of your book?

Actually we had crowd funding back in the late 90s but we didn't call it crowd funding. I thought I had invented it as our forum logs show what we did. We would ask for other webmasters or other attorneys or veterans or deputies to chip in for any number of things. Now it's a global phenom.

Right now I'm just trying to publish this book the right way. Had someone contact me yesterday claiming to want to help but then failed to communicate. Had to drop the guy.

Bascially several people have generously sent me strategies to take like JoeFizz above that generally mirror one another. I'll have to follow those suggestions as the guy who contacted me yesterday fell off the Earth.

So it's Kindle but I don't think I'll go the WSO route. It's like fighting uphill. I should have JVd this project but sifting through all the scammers to find the honorable people is like fighting an uphill battle. Burns up too much time.

Have you thought about making it an app? A guy that lives by me does it with his comics.

Most of the people interested in this type of funding are pretty tech savvy and it could cut down on piracy.

        Still known as crowdfunding.

And I wasn't talking about kickstarter and like sites where people get a hat you knitted when they give you $50 for your project.

I'm talking about crowdfunding mentioned in the jobs act Jumpstart Our Business Startups Act - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The crowdfunding that is equity based funding where "mom and pop" investors can invest in the "latest and greatest" startups without have to be what is a "qualified" investor, and in return for their investment they get equity.

So we were clearly talking two different points.

The most profit might be made by building a list and selling your own ebook directly to your list. Obviously, you can use your existing articles as the content to send to your list, and/or write some new stuff, as I'm sure you can.

Other strategies include offering commission to others to sell the ebook, such as by using JVZOO (I got a few sales from my ebook there in a few weeks), and then contact others who might be interested in selling it (such as relevant website owners).

A WSO might make some money, but as your topic is not directly what most people in internet marketing actually do (or want to do), it might not sell all that well (as even high-value, high-quality IM info, exactly what people DO need, is still a challenge to sell as a WSO, as I know myself!).

Your product is certainly of value, however, that doesn't mean you will sell any unless you find a way of persuading people to buy it (as I know from one of my hugely over-valued products, which has made a total of 1 sale, in 2 years, from about 15,000 relevant visitors!). So yes, it can be done, but it's not easy. I'd go with list-building if it were me (I am just starting my own list right now!), because that builds trust and increases your conversions, as well as keeping more of the profit for yourself. If you have contacts in the industry, you could maybe find some higher-price products, like interviews with those contacts, or whatever, in addition to the ebook.

    Hope that helps

      Hiya Chris!

Thanks so much for the input! I agree with getting others who want to sell the book. That was a consideration from the start and I have had a swarm of folks emailing and PMing me asking to. I'm waiting for one person on my project to give me the final data on what he's doing in this regard. If he's going to handle it or me. It should be resolved shortly.

Turn it into a course, as you appear to have the experience.
    1. Take your ebook and make Power Point Slides.
    2. Make a Video, or even better, hold a Webinar (record it with Camtasia) and break it into modules. Into, Module 1,2,3
    3. Build a membership site (outsource it to MarkPress.net) with a 1 time joining fee of $47-97 and people can learn via video with a bonus resources menu to help them along.
    4. Up sell for 1-on-1 coaching with a 2-4 hour block of coaching at $245 per hour
    5. Then give your eBook away for free as promotional material, this may sound crazy but people upgrade for the video training as its the most preferred way of learning. Post it on free ebook sites with links to your main site and make How-to Articles and post on How-to site to generate traffic back to your site.
    6. Make a sales funnel with each stage being more expensive as the customer upgrades.
    7. This is valuable information, if someone could raise $500,000 - how much do you think they would pay to learn that system?

    8. Your target market is NGO's and charities that you could even direct market to with Post Cards (email comes across as spam). You could gather their mailing address via an online assistant with about 4-8 hours work and post cards from SendOutCards.com.

    9. If sounds like to much work...PM me (Private Message) me to talk about sell outright as I really like what you could do with this information. Heck you don't need me, their are plenty of people who would back your cause.

Brett Olson, big thanks! You won't believe how many people have emailed me or SKYPEd me with similar info. I'm really surprised at the response so far! It's a real wellspring of info I had not expected. I mean people are leaping over the fence to do good deeds.

This ebook isn't about me boasting how successful I've done in crowd funding. It's about the theory and practical application thereof. I ain't doin' the infomercial type of product. I have a few people actively working on this ebook, a sort of redundancy if the other fails.

I'm just trying to offer a simple explanation to the public about the industry and how it may apply to them and how they can apply the resources available. Come what may the book will be out this week even if the people I'm working with on it fail. There's so much more info about the industry coming in that I'll have to do an updated version by year's end. I live here in Hollywood and am stunned at how many people, I mean directors and actors who are very famous have no idea what crowd funding is! I live in a neighborhood with tons of celebrities and rank and file actors and technicians. They're always looking for ways to do charity work but some of the crowd funding groups don't do charity. I found the ones that do and I've got people ready to pile in. It got so bad I had to push people away last night. People were all over me which is why I see the value of your suggestions as it's interactive.

I've got a great surprise coming from kinfolk and friends in government who are waiting for this book. They tossed in suggestions. My next main concern is using crowd funding to help veterans. I have a military family as well and we tend to our veterans. I have to get some musical instruments to some Air Force kids and other things. So if I can get that going I'll be happy. Just streamline that and I know just the right crowd funding group to work with on it.

So again thanks! I will PM you.
