Would rather play hard...

I need to get more balance in my life in a big way. I work hard and then I try to make sure I always get enough sleep so I can keep at it.

Need to spend more time with family, exercising, socializing, and enjoying life...

Plus i now have terrible carpel tunnel. Wearing a wrist guard and have it wrapped up.

I got into IM so I would have more free time not less. Even with a full-time VA I still find it difficult to tear myself away from work. Even when I am not working I am thinking about working.

Not complaining; IM has allowed me a lot of flexibility in my schedule, and made it possible for me to go back to school, but I certainly can't, and wouldn't want to keep up the pace I am going at for an extended period of time.

I still love what I do. Just need to maintain a healthy balance.

I bet there are many of you here in the same boat.

Sleep is for the broke... I've hit some goldmines in the early AMs that I would have missed out on if I was sleeping lol

  • Well I can only go without sleep for a short time so trying to skip out on that is counter productive. I don't mean I sleep alot. Probably the required 8 hours a night. But then I spend the rest of the time working. Reality is I don't have to push myself that hard. It is just that work is addictive for me.

I don't think sleep is for the broke. I always seem to make the most money while I am sleeping. hmmmmmm...... maybe I should develop a new strategy....

Start paying more attention to what is getting you huge results and do more of that.

Start doing a whole lot less of anything else.

And for a month set actual work times. Having to work within time contraints forces you to prioritize...do the important things and leave the things that aren't important.

      Kindest regards,

I know that a lot of times if I first start on a project that I'm excited about I sometimes can't sleep until I either pass out from exhaustion or complete the project.

I've noticed that If I cut out stimulants, eat healthy & stay active working out that I keep a much better sleep schedule but all it takes is that one idea to send the "healthy" sleep pattern out the window again.

If you need more free time then I would advise you to maybe invest in some other residual sources of income. I understand that this is an internet marketing forum but there's other business models out there that can give you more freedom as far as time goes.

Maybe open up a gym, tanning salon, rental properties or even move more towards local SEO, FB etc. Charge businesses a monthly fee
    {{ DiscussionBoard.errors[6544749].message }}
  • Well its not that I need more free time. I am just a workaholic (ok maybe I don't need more free time - I just want more free time, but then I would just spend it working). I also loathe working with local businesses - they are not worth my time. My business model is pretty stellar and the reality of it is that I can slack off all I want.

I just have high expectations, and I enjoy what I do. It just is unhealthy to just work and not play.

    Thanks Andrew for the advice

Maybe it's not a problem. You enjoy what you are doing - and when you enjoy your work, it can be like play.

Some people can get by on little sleep - some can't. I can't do it for more than a few days before crashing.

Simple truth is there are 24 hours in a day for all of us. Some folks like the play aspect and some prefer working those hours. If you are also going to school that's like having a second job and it takes time.

Maybe - for now - the work habits aren't a problem for you. Carpal tunnel seems odd for someone who appears rather young. Can you move to Dragon for some of your work to avoid keyboarding?

I switched to ergonomic keyboards and that help with tendonitis - worth a try if you haven't done that yet.

There's nothing wrong with working a lot - but you do need sufficient sleep and exercise has to be part of the equation to keep you healthy enough to keep working.

Consider "appointing" one day of each week as a personal day - to spend time with family, explore new experiences, pursue a hobby, etc.
Set that one day as a non-work day both mentally and physically.

It's an addiction that goes with the entrepreneurial mind set. Sometimes the ideas come so fast it's tough to keep up with them, let alone sleep.

      I'd rather be building something.

I'll get all the sleep I need when I'm dead.

Work Hard Sleep Hard...I think I definitely do that...sometimes I've worked until 4am in the morning and don't wake up til 1pm of the same day of course. But I also like to play hard, and spend my money traveling or doing some extravagant thing.

lol, i know many top celebrities sleep very less. But they are so much focussed and enthusiastic. I think, its your enthusiasm which keeps you awake. If you dont have enthusiasm, you will probably sleep for 3 hoursin a day and spend rest of the day on mindless activites.

I´m MD of a company. Although I´m not the owner I built the company entirely myself from scratch and now is doing pretty well. I go to the office at 6.30 am when everybody is sleeping. From 6.30 to 9.00 I work on my IM projects, and then from 9 am to 8 pm (9 to 5? you are lucky guys!)I work for this company (with a 1.30 break for lunch and rest). I have two kids and I barely see them on weekdays but I try to compensate that on weekends. I´m working very hard but I´m not going to stop no matter how long it takes to make a living with IM, 6 months, 1 year, 2 years... I wont stop until I achieve it.

... and I bet you will with an attitude like that. Great stuff.

Having said that, I know when you have kids (I don't have kids... yet) it puts a lot of things into perspective and you want to do anything you can to provide the best possible life for them.

But just remember that nothing, even money, replaces the time you lose with them by working too hard. Money is great and all but it's not more important than your kids. You don't want to look back in 5-10 years time and realize how much of the simple things you missed.

A lot of hard working people end up doing just that.

But I do admire your determination.

Sleep is an important part of my routine, without 8 hours each night I simply wouldn't have juice in the tank to work the job and do the IM. I also find that the odd 20 minute nap works wonders for the grey matter too!

Nicely said. But I think newbies should work hard and sleep less. When they are on passive income, then they should try out other things.

Yes, work hard everyday but also work-out everyday. The healthier you are the more energy you'll have and the more creative you'll be. Get enough sleep. Too little or too much isn't healthy. I like to work while I sleep. I focus on 2 or 3 problems just before sleeping and frequently have the solution when I wake. Then, you'll think of sleeping as a good thing as your brain is working while your body is rejuvenating. Drink water. Have some fun every day. And don't forget sex everyday, too!

  • For the past months, I have been sleeping like 2-3 hours a day. If I don't sleep, I don't earn money. It seems like I am going to let go of the opportunity of earning money.

But now I am trying to stick with an 8-hour routine. It seems I always fail on this one. I am so enthusiastic about doing my job, making the client happy it's like I am in cloud 9.

I would much rather SLEEP HARD. That's why i work hard everyday to build a "semi-autopilot" internet business, that is thriving and making money everyday - so that i only have to work for about 3 hours per day... and that's after i wake up at 7pm.

This post reminds me a colleague who can literally sleep, several times a day, with her fingers on the keyboard. Take note, she snoars! When someone moves around her desk, it seems like she has a sound wave radar, and she starts tapping the keys again.
