From Blogger to Wordpress

Hello!

I have bought a domain from godaddy and I wanted to start using Wordpress because all the Amazon seller themes like Zine or WPsomething are for wordpress and. I currently have a free blog on blogger where I do this:

How do I use a custom domain name for my blog? - Blogger Help

  • Host my blog on a URL that I already own.
  • Is your URL hosted by GoDaddy.com?
  • Yes
I see several people saying Wordpress is way better than Blogger and I wanted to jump in this because all the features that blogger doesn't have and such. I don't know exactly how Wordpress works since I've only used blogger since I started IM.

Do I just create a free blog on wordpress and do the same thing with a tutorial Wordpress has and create posts and such from Wordpress? I don't have hosting by the way but I can get free hosting from 000webhost.

What I do know what to do is use an FTP account to upload files to a hosting account and edit the templates from there (I learned this a while back) where I created files for my very old site. Is it installing wordpress on the hosting account or creating a blog of wordpress and redirecting the domain to the wordpress blog?

Many thanks.

Not on Wordpress.com, because you'd be breaching the TOS there by monetizing in any way.

Yes, you can. Much better proposition. But you'll need to know how to install Wordpress there, and it isn't trivial. (The last I heard, pretty recently, their automated C-panel installer was no longer available on free accounts and they didn't even have a date for when this would be fixed. I hope my information about this is out of date, but I suspect it isn't?).

This: you need to install Wordpress on your hosting. It's possible on free hosting, just not always as easy as one would like.

I haven't used it myself, but Hostica.com offers hosting for $1 per month, for one site only, and I think they have an automated one-click Wordpress installer. Perhaps worth checking?

You're definitely doing the right thing, moving away from Blogger. For many, many reasons. Good luck!

If you are planning multi domains, better go with host gator and you have fantastico "1" click install... and you can be done in 5 minutes... and yes use self hosted wordpress and not the wordpress.com free stuff as you loose control..

I recommend you export your Blogger blog to your new WordPress site and redirect Blogger to keep the traffic that you have.
