Do You Make These Mistakes When Creating Your Website?

Recently, I've been noticing more and more posts about people requesting for their site to be reviewed. So I thought I'd create a post that highlights some of the mistakes made with the website. This can serve as a guideline for people who are about to create their own site.

By the way, my advice in this post is based on the assumption that most of you want to create a page that is designed to sell a product.

Mistake #1 - No Paragraphing

You might find it fairly hard to believe, but some of the sites that people have requested a review for don't even have proper paragraphing. All the words are just clumped together. People, you've got to realise that NOBODY enjoys reading something when there is no proper paragraphing. It's just plain tedious! Plus it shows a lack of professionalism.

Mistake #2 - Stating Your Credentials, But Not Proving Them

A lot of people tend to write that they were a newspaper editor, or have written truckloads of articles. Or maybe they're an experienced copywriter. Sure, you can write all that. But if you can't explicitly PROVE these credentials then people won't believe you.

Let's say you're setting up a website to market your article writing services. You might state that you've had plenty of experience as a newspaper writer or editor or whatnot. You may be thinking that it will boost your credibility as a writer, and so more people will hire you. But if you can't actually prove that you were a writer, then what is the point?

People say that they earn thousands a month on their sales pages. But when they don't explicitly prove it, prospects tend it feel he is a lying scumbag. Similarly, if you don't prove your credentials then people will think you're a liar as well. Prove your claims, and then you will be trusted.

Mistake #3 - Testimonials, Or Rather, A Lack Of Them

Don't underestimate the power of testimonials, especially when they are from a respected person in the market you're working in. Your testimonials can be used to explain the IMMENSE VALUE YOUR CUSTOMERS RECIEVED. And this will help get prospects to both respect your value and get you excited about what you sell.

If you can get a picture, an audio testimonial and a video testimonial on top of a written testimonial, it will be an added bonus.

Of course, there are numerous other aspects of the website that you need to make sure you tend to when you create your website. But there is only so much time I have to write this post.

People, feel free to add on to this list.

I might include more tips in a later post as well.

Cheers

Prashant

prashie91 you make some excellent points. The following posts are also good things to keep in mind. Call to action, small type. IF you're a writer, whether you have credentials or not, put some samples where they can be read.

"I are a writer who can write a 500 word atricle for you for only $4.99. Cheapest articles in the wolrd. Do not accumalate PLR on your hard drive, get some of them re-writen."

        Honest, I've see that.

(I'm emailing some mates and asking for a testimonial right now! Thanks phrashie91).

Maybe it's just me but I think black backgrounds don't do much for a site unless you're selling a gaming product, sci fi or goth. Sure, most sites are white but they do look "clean".

    hey archer.

there is a proper reason for the white background... you curious to know what it is??

they load MUCH faster then those with flashy colours. imagine you were redirected to a slow loading page... do you think it would be likely that after a few seconds of waiting you'd leave?

to prevent losing customers, web owners just use a plain white background.
