Anyone else getting smashed with spam comments on their sites lately?

So in the past week or so I've been getting ALOT of spam comments over all my sites which have a 'contact us' form. It's happening on both Wordpress and non-wordpress sites.

I'm just wondering if I should be concerned if my sites are being hacked, or attempted to be hacked, as they are all under the same main hosting domain?

oh god hell yeah its really annoying, these are attempts to try and build backlinks, i use akismet plugin which pretty much covers all the spam, getting 220 comments a day, its not hacking its spam.

I have the default akismet plugin, but not doing much.
Im just concerned all of a sudden they are all coming in at once and I've had these sites online for well over a year

I'm getting a ton, despite using anti-spam plugins.

I wouldn't worry too much about getting hacked - most of the spam will come from automated software like scrapebox.

I don't know why people still do this because it lost its effectiveness for backlinks ages ago.

Unrelated/related question, would you say scrapebox is B/H?

You could used a Captcha plug in! I don't get any spammy comment! Go through the WP plug ins and type in Really Simple Captcha.

    Hope this helps!

My Wordpress blog sometimes gets a lot of spam comments. But, so far, Akismet has done its job extremely well. There were like 10 comments a week, but still... they ten to be really annoying.

It just means that you've finally made it to the big time! Did you just get a PR bump or finally get your traffic above a certain level?

Get either the GASP plugin from Wordpress plugin directory or Commetluv Premium. you get real people that leave comments and real people commenting won't get sucked into the spam folder. Great tool! Humans also spam, but they're easier to handle than automated bot spam.

I get a dozen or so spam comments a week - some are really funny to read. When I get a bunch from one IP I block the IP address.

If you want to block a lot of the spammers before they actually load your site. Take a look at installing Bad Behavior. I was having a massive problem with spammers at one point, with over 200 spam comments a day on one of my sites. Most of which weren't being caught by Akismet.

Using both Bad Behavior and Akismet will drastically reduce the amount of junk you get. And protect your site from other malicious users.

Since I installed the Bad Behavior plugin, I may have 2 or 3 spam comments a day. It's made a huge difference.
