My Brother Has Less Willpower Than A Monkey BUT

Well despite working with many others of course I have yet to work with my brother but the other day:

He said that the only thing he had done for which he has absolute positive proof was stopping smoking so would I help him create a guide on it.

My answer was of course yes even though I realise just how hard a niche this will be to get in to but we will give it a go.

I already had the domain name stopsmokingcompletely.com as I had thought about this niche before.

Oh and yes with his lack of willpower I am amazed my brother did stop smoking but he really did.

Maybe you could come up with a good name for this guide unless of course Stopping Smoking Completely is good enough?

And what do we need to make this one stand out from the crowd?

You could have an ebook cover with a monkey on it smoking and the title could be "Stop smoking EVEN if you have less willpower than a monkey!".

    Only kidding!

I think what would work well in this niche is the emphasis on SPEED.

Stop Smoking Today With A PROVEN 3 STEP FORMULA!

I think the domain is good but you just need to think about the name of the product.

    Thanks.

And yes the name of the product/guide could be key.

Get your e-cover down pat with your title. Don't forget a little sex appeal in the title and the graphic will make sales for you.

Don't forget to make it compliant with Amazon Kindle so you can use that as a marketplace.

I'd find a way to work in the "Getting the Monkey off His Back" cliche into the title. There isn't much else to work with when it comes to primates and nicotine, at least in my head.

Since your brother has no willpower, maybe you can add that for a twist on the title.

    Try:

    Title:

    "How to Stop Smoking Completely"

"Even if You Have Less Willpower Than a Monkey!"

Then you can start your copy.

Thanks! I didn't think anyone would stand up for me!

As a former smoking monkey, I'd go with Ken's suggestion about adding little sex appeal. Smokers want to envision a life of health and vitality. Jokes are cute, but remember the people who are looking to quit and have turned to the internet are looking for a solution, FREAKIN' NOW! :p Cuz quitting smoking makes your brain itch.

OH! And be ready for a high refund rate, I read somewhere that the average smoker quits for good on their 11th attempt.

    11th attempt? Thats crazy!
Having your him as the monkey in the story would act as a good lead for others, by example, without pushing them directly or making it too boring of a 'how to' manual.

      It's an ugly habit!

I think the monkey is a cute idea, but I just wouldn't go over the top with it. When you are in the mood to quit, you may close a site that is making TOO much fun out of it, and move on to the more serious. That, "HA, HA, HELL!" feeling ain't pretty!

    Before you get the Mirror-Mirror-On-The-Wall
Disease, it'll be great if you could flip out of
    that perspective and instead think...

"What would the crowd want, that others are
    NOT offering?"

And that's because marketers do not buy their
    own products, the consumers do.

Or you could think about it in the AIDA manner.

What could grab their attention in a unique
    way that this product has?

I'm pointing this out because one of my buddies
had a pretty horrid experience when his idea
    resulted in zero sales.

It's easy to fall into the "marketer's view" trap.

Great idea. Whilst it is a competitive niche that doesn't mean you can't make money from it. A guide based on personal experience will always be winner!

The Name of the product doesn't matter that much to be honest with you.

what matters the most is to know how to advertise it!

And make sure you have a good landing with a great sales letter.

So your second question is definitely more important and that's where you should focus on.

What should stand out the most is the sales letter not the product itself. because the product works your brother is proof of it.

The sales page is the one that will determine your success with the product. (ebook)

    Here are some tips.

1- Use some emotion on your ad and sales page, expose the pain! people buy according to their emotions a 100% of the time.
2- Present yourself as an expert.
3-And then tell them there is a solution! with the call to action.

the monkey Idea is good but for the sales page not for the actual ad.

    hope that helps.

    All the best!

I don't smoke but I'll chip in to give my 2 cents anyway. I clicked on this thread because I was intrigued by the title. So if you use this as say the subject of an email swipe, you'll probably get many people opening it and reading on because they are curious. Whether they then buy your product will depend on the sales page. I don't think I'd expand on the monkey theme - someone said it before, monkeys don't provoke any emotional response and monkeys aren't sexy.

Instead of telling the story of your brother from your viewpoint, why not let your brother tell it from his? That would make it more personal and may appeal better emotionally. He can talk about his struggles and how he tried so many times and failed because he couldn't muster more willpower to resist smoking than a monkey facing a bunch of bananas.... until he discovered this one thing that he wants to now share to benefit others with the same problem he used to have...

As a smoker, there is no way I'd buy a guide to stop smoking that claims you don't require willpower.

      Mainly because it's a lie.

The monkey idea is cute, but the only people that will buy it are people that are far more likely to fail, resulting in huge refunds.

You should target people that ARE in the right place to succeed.

Something like "It's not easy, and there's no magic formula, but you CAN STOP SMOKING COMPLETELY! " would be much more attractive to me.

      Just a thought.

I have to disagree here. I smoked for years, and willpower didn't have anything to do with finally quitting. In fact, 'willpower' rang up a big 0-fer when it came to quitting for good.

I also didn't use any goofy patches, gum or electric doodads.

What finally worked for me was a sudden shift in belief. One day, I found myself bundling up and going out into a snowstorm to get my fix. I stood there, shivering, and it was like I stepped outside of myself. I looked at that silly wretch freezing in the cold wind-blown snow, and said to myself, "Glad I'm not him. Standing in the storm like that is just stupid."

I threw away the pack on my way back to the house, and haven't even had the urge to light up in almost twenty years.

Congrats to you sir. However, if you never felt the urge to smoke again after deciding to give up, you are in the minority. You most certainly have to want to give up, and there are people who can simply choose to stop. Those people are few and far between.

I agree that you have to want to stop. I chose to stop several times.

For all but the last time, I was a smoker who chose to quit.

The last time, there was a mental shift. I no longer saw myself as a 'smoker who quit smoking'. I saw myself as a non-smoker.

The physical symptoms lasted a few days, but after that, it was smooth sailing. Not because I was anything special, but because I changed the way I looked at myself. Once I saw myself as a non-smoker, any urge was gone.

Had I not gone through this shift in self-image, I'd have agreed with you all the way.

That's one reason that I think a book on stopping that doesn't require willpower has a chance if properly positioned. So many people have tried and failed multiple times using the willpower method, and convinced themselves that they don't have enough willpower, that the promise of something that doesn't require something they don't think they have might be very appealing.

As for the patches and electronic butts, etc., that's not 'quitting', that's just changing the delivery method on your drug of choice. Kind of like saying "I quit smoking pot. Now I bake it into brownies instead. But I did quit smoking it..."

Why do people buy products which claim to make them thousands or millions or dollars without doing any work? Shouldn't they know it's a lie?

I think it's a good idea, just need to market it well.

Great idea, the situation here is simple. "Perception is everything in life"
How we influence people in life is how we will get the result of followers in life too!
