Ideas on Clever Ways To Leverage A Newsletter?

I have a client for whom I produce a digital monthly newsletter. He then takes that Word.doc and sends it to all the clients on his email list.

He also mails out a printed version to other clients on his books, and keeps a pile in his waiting room and on his reception desk.

I had a conversation with him the other day where he was trying to think of new ways to leverage the newsletter.

I suggested adding them to his website with links to his Facebook page,Twitter account, Google+ and LinkedIN, and joint ventures with other local businesses, where they display each others material, but then I drew a blank.

Can any Warriors come up with any additional uses for a monthly newsletter?

He can also selectively publish the newsletters on document publishing sites like Scribd.com, Docstoc.com etc.

this is pretty vague. what are you asking for exactly? and what kind of business does your client run?

if you're talking about printed versions for offline marketing as well, then perhaps you should consider treating his offline newsletter in the same way his online newsletter is run. Set up solo ads for example with other local merchants. They pay to have a nice printed letter sent to his subscribers, and he collects a nice fee for doing so. Direct mailing is still pretty effective - especially if it's to a "warm" audience and not just cold mailings.

I wish i could help more, but like i said...im not really sure what you're asking for.

Does your client have his newsletters available on his website? Perhaps a QR code on his business cards?

Yes, I mentioned that I suggested posting the newsletter to his website.

I really like the idea of a QR code on his business card. Thanks

Ugh, so you did. My bad.

The only other thing that springs to mind would be a slight modification on your suggestion of joint ventures with local businesses. If one of those businesses has heavy footfall, offer to include a coupon/voucher for their business for no extra cost provided they also display the newsletter.

    1. Depending on what type of content it is, you could compile all of the best articles and publish a book on Amazon. Even if it doesn't make any sales, your client can claim to be a published author.

    2. Newsletters are normally pretty easy to turn into slideshows/videos as well.

    3. Compile a "best of" report and use it as an additional opt-in bonus.

Take related articles from several newsletters and put them in a new compilation guide laser-targeted on that specific issue.

Hire someone, or have an employee, read articles while on camera to create a video version (also can do to create an audio only version).

"Syndicate" selected articles elsewhere, offline is better, to include authoritative references to add to the newsletter material.

Find other professionals with a newsletter and swap articles so his article appears in their offices.

Select an important article and blow it up poster-size and frame it on the wall.
