Want to Make More Money? Get a Nickname...

by Ron Douglas 18 replies
I was chatting with "The Hamster King" on Skype the other day about how his nickname has really helped with branding and likeability. I'm sure some will say "who is that" but most people here know the Warrior who is affectionately known by that name.

Which brings me to the point of this thread - would you make more money if you had a nickname?

Here's some examples:

Mark Joyner - The Tiger Woods of Internet
Joe Vitale - Mr. Fire
Rich Schefren - The Guru to the Guru's
The Rich Jerk
'X'
Mike Ambrosio - Mr. Overdeliver
Alexandria Brown - The Ezine Queen
Dr. Mani
Jim Edwards - The Net Reporter

I'm sure there are a bunch I missed. But, I can see how having a nickname makes you more branded in the minds of the market.

The question is, how do you get a nickname and would having one really make you more money?

Or would it just be better to be known for a product?:

Filsaime - Butterfly Marketing
Reese - Traffic Secrets
Kern - Mass Control
Walker - Product Launch Formula
Allen - Warrior Forum

Thoughts?

I think being known for a product sounds a little more professional.

It also gives you some flexibility for the future. You can always piggyback off of the branding of one successful product towards branding a second or third.

Branding yourself in a competitive marketplace really does work. I have a friend who sells new cars, and is still doing very well even in this tight economy. He wears a green baseball cap with casual business attire. People are drawn to him more than the other sales people in their business suits. Of course he provides excellent service and gives his customers good deals. Quite often new customers will come into the car dealership and ask for "that guy with the green cap".

I just registered with my "nick name"

Just remember, you will also want to own the .com and redirect it to your blog as well.

(Mine doesn't yet, but will after today)

Could be. Probably wouldn't make a good nickname huh? TrafficSage is a great site though

I remember when I first started, the first time I stumbled upon Mike Ambrosio's site and saw - Mr. Overdeliver overdeliver, I never forget his nickname after that.
