Suggestions on how to increase traffic

Hi

I own a website that gives away sound effects for free. This website has been going for 7 years and recently we have been lucky to have several major Hollywood sound libraries contribute content meaning we now have almost 5,000 free professional sound effects.

The stupid thing is, the content on the site is in high demand on paid for sites and I know that the site should be getting way more than 5,000 hits a day it currently does. There are no clauses or catches.... the site just gives away high quality sound effects for free with the aim to later monetize it with ads.

I am very keen for suggestions on how to get more traffic to the site or gain exposure. I don't have a marketing budget as the content being free and the costs involved are such, so if anyone has any good suggestions, please let me know.

Thanks

Maybe put a few samples on Youtube with your website address on the video, and a link to your site in the description box.

Personally I would make a song and dance (excuse the pun) about the Hollywood sound libraries, through press releases.

Guest blogging could also be an option for you, and I'd start looking into social media.

You could also syndicate updates on your site through RSS feeds... there are thousands of RSS directories out there that will link to your most recent content.

Thanks Mick. Press releases sound good to me but expensive? I did one in the past that cost me $400. I imagine getting the lists to send them to is where the cost is?

I learned a traffic method today that I had not encountered before. I haven't tried it, and I'm not sure how I feel about it, but here's the thread: http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...-torrents.html

Write some articles describing how the sound effects can benefit different businesses/websites etc

Also, I think this type of site is perfect for promoting via Adwords (if your budget allows). Anyone searching for sound effects would love to be directed to your site, especially if your ones are free.

It may be quite cheap to get clicks that way also as I don't think it is a really competitive market. (although I might be wrong!)

Build nice package, with few best sounds, and offer if nicely packed to be put on good traffic blogs in the subject. Of course with link to the main website.
This requires short description, nice graphic. Very nice graphics.
Remember, bloggers could be lazy, they love to get moething nice that they just put up there, free anid looking nice.
        Good luck.

Make sure the niche exists. Do youtube, find relevant forums in your niche, start a blog, find a relevant blog in the blog directories, do blog commenting, run PPC ads, and run ads on the Google content/display network (be careful here tho).

Like many people have said, go for Youtube. However, I would add this:

1 - Set up a channel that has the name of your company
2 - Create several short sample videos
3 - Each video needs to be linked "sound effects" keywords that are being search for.
4 - Write the content, roughly 300-500 words. Outsource on Fiverr if you have the cash and lack the time.
5 - Upload the videos, adding keywords to titles, posting the articles in the description area.

If you have that many sound effects, you should be able to create quite a channel and get indexed. Hope that helps.

I just compiled a list on this thread, although this type of thread is one of the most recurring ones... anyway, take a look and see if it helps.

I think Youtube would be ideal for you as you can give them a sample in the video of what they can get for free at your site.

Thanks Guys.... YouTube is coming up a lot! I have a channel /thefreesfx and have posted a few sounds on there.... But no videos 'about the site/service'.... So maybe more of what I am doing? Would a video about how to use our site etc really be good for traffic? I am thinking probably just more sounds as I have already posted?

Also any feedback on how I can improve my channel and videos/descriptions etc to optimize traffic would be great!

    Thanks for feedback.

Just tow words: Promotion and SEO
You need to promote your site so that people will come across it. You also have to work on its' SEO so that people who are searching something that your site contains, will find it.

There is another option, you can pay for traffic if you wish. But this way you cannot know if your investment will make you profit.

This is my first post. Hope it helps. One of the email lists I subscribe to is from a video expert teaching how to do video. One of her (I'm sure its an autoresponder) messages promoted a stock footage offer. I'm sure she makes some cash off this and the marketer gets traffic and sales. They provide video, sound, music, graphics all for free. They make their money off shipping and handling. Sounds like they have an affiliate program or have set up arrangements with key influencers to leverage their subscribers.

    Hi
    Two things.
    1. I think your domain name isn't partucularly search-friendly -I imagine people search for will writing or making a will not 'mywill'. At the moment you are not listed on any of the 4 or 5 pages I glanced through on Google. Even with very good SEO, I think you will struggle with the domain name. A variant of makingawill / writing a will, maybe hyphens maybe .net or whatever, might be more fruitful.
    2. Since you have national coverage, you might consider local Google marketing. Get domains suchas willwritingmanchester or willwritingsouthampton and use Google Maps. I suspect this would be the most effective first step to creating leads.
    Good luck.

Try some article writing on Squidoo, or Ezine Articles on sound effects. If you have some interesting sound effect write an article on them on what makes them interesting. You can then link to your site. Make the titles to the article using a keyword that someone would search for. Check Google Ads Keyword Tool and see what people are typing in for sound effects and write an article using the search term.
