[Reality Check] Are You A Marketer or a Product of False Perception?

Whenever I consider the online landscape all I see is endless opportunities. The internet has provided a platform to the world where boundaries do not exist and the market available includes every country where this phenomenon (the internet) is easily accessible. Demand is rife and regardless of how big the supply is, there are always gaps in this market due to the enormous size. With the proper skills one can make a comfortable living online - the sky is certainly the limit here and one is only bound by their own knowledge, ambition and desires, but is this truly the case? Is knowledge, ambition and desire enough for one to earn a living online?

I know someone who was a real estate agent and she was able to make a sale here and there, nothing out of this world, just enough to make ends meet. But within her company there were agents who put in the same amount of work but their returns were exponential. She liked her job but I noticed that she possessed a more reserved personality and she was more of an introvert. When it came to building relationships with people she did not go the extra mile to form the bond that leads to trust. Instead she kept her clients at a distance that was far enough to ensure a close relationship could not be built, but close enough so that she could still make sales.

My belief was that this was the reason her sales did not explode. I confronted her about it but nothing changed. What I realized was that I was trying to change her personality! She is more of an introvert, not unfriendly, but definitely more conservative! The thought of trying to fit a square peg into a round hole came to mind and that is when I realized that her career choice was the wrong one. But she had no choice in the matter because jobs were scarce when she secured this position so she settled for what came her way to make ends meet. She was forced into a position that did not suit her because of circumstances.

But lately she was given an opportunity to follow a different path and as a result she has found her place in the world. She has realized more joy and success in what she is doing now then anything she has ever done in the past. She has basically found the place that she was specifically designed for.

I was engaged in a thread here on the WF where a member went on about how he is investing so much time and effort in this IM journey but he isn't seen success. His belief is that those who succeed in this industry are blinded to the reality that there are more failures which makes this entire industry unviable. His belief is the few who have succeeded now possess a heightened ego that manipulates them into believing that whoever fails is doing something wrong because if they can succeed then anyone else can. I thought this guy was slightly nuts but I did ponder on it and I think he had a point.

This got me thinking about the unique design of each individual and whether or not that design is suited to this industry. I know many are attracted to this industry by the FALSE claims that guru's make about push-button riches and the ease of this industry as a whole to make money at will. This is far from the truth but it does create a perception within an individual and it also creates a desire to have what these gurus have. Because of the low barriers to entry in this market that desire usually fuels action and many begin to try and make money online in an attempt to live this charmed life that others have supposedly achieved so easily.

The false perception is one of the greatest reasons for people failing but within that group of failures there are actually a few who succeed. I know I was introduced to this industry by a sales page that highlighted push-button riches but it was that sales page that ignited the desire in me to learn more about this industry. The marketer in me wanted to know what this is all about. And after being scammed I did finally realize success through learning, testing, and implementing my newfound knowledge. After making my first sale I knew that I have found my place, the career that best suits me and an area that I am passionate about. I love that experience of entering a new niche, researching it, writing about it, designing a website and providing value through my words to my visitors. I also love the fact that I get paid for doing all these things. This for me is the place that I was designed to be in.

I believe many are hanging on to the false perception of what this industry is about and their own tenacity and perseverance is keeping them going even though they have not seeing any form of success and growth. Their own will to succeed coupled by their desire to have what they assume other successful people in this industry have is driving them to try and fit a square peg in a round hole. Many are not marketers - they are not designed to be marketers, their skills lie somewhere else. Ultimately their overall design will limit their ability to achieve success in this industry.

Regardless of what they do they will continue to fail - they can get the best mentor or coach, they can invest thousands of dollars in the best courses, they can go to whatever height they choose to try and succeed but they will never because they are in the wrong place. They were falsely lured into a position that was never meant for them by deception or even their own desperation.

As human beings it isn't always easy to admit defeat but I think for some who are never getting anywhere in this arena it is time to take stock and to honestly evaluate whether your unique design is suited to the IM industry. Right now there could be a position outside of IM that will fit you perfectly. The endless stress that you may be feeling in this industry can be averted if you put aside your pride and admit that you are in the wrong place. Your skills and abilities are being lost in a foreign field and your own happiness is being negated because of it. Your growth as an individual is also being stunted! It is perhaps time to re-evaluate.

When I was a teenager I played sport really well but I was never the best although I always wanted to be - I did all that was expected of me and more but the talent to be the best did not reside in me. This was not what I was designed to do!
