Do you really find success with guest posting?

I want only the answers from users, who really had experience with this - do you really find success with guest posting?
Does guest posting on sites like problogger or coppyblogger really works well? What was the best success for you with guest posting and how many visitors did you receive?

For me its not just about the traffic and opt-ins it brings but more the relationship it brings with the other bloggers/marketers. This can lead to bigger things down the line.

Another little tip on guest posting, if you write a slightly controversial post then this may attract more comments - more comments means your post could end up on the 'most popular' section of the blog, ultimatley leading to more traffic.

What is the meaning of opt-ins?

I've had some success with guest posting in the relatively short time I've did it. No doubt as I continue to write more posts and get them accepted I'll see much better success.

Guest posting isn't the answer to your prayers. Yes it might bring you some traffic if it's good, but that doesn't really mean anything.

Your website has to be ready for the traffic. By that I mean you need to be able to A) Get people to optin, or B) At least make them want to stay and become a regular reader.

If you can't do neither of those then guest posting is a waste of time.

It's also a lot more than building traffic. It gives you a chance to build relationships with other bloggers. People with whom you can cross promote. People with whom you can share advice. Basically so you can each help each other grow and become more successful. Everything is based around relationships and making friends. Don't forget that.

        Excellent point!
I think everything you do has to be built on more than just getting a profit out of it!

When discussing this topic, it usually references the voluntary action by a reader to join your list, allowing you to email them more of the same quality information and/or product offers.

I had a blog a few years ago and guest posting worked fantastically for it. The trick is, try to find other blogs who are sort of on the 'up and coming' like you are. Then team up with them and begin networking and forming a little group of people who shares each other's stuff. Twitter was a great place for this. I found numerous new bloggers on Twitter when I was blogging, and made sure to maintain that relationship.

Post on a regular schedule, and get some guest posting in, you'll see your alexa rank shrinking. I think I ended up taking mine from multi-millions to under 100,000 in a month or 2. Hope this helps!

    Peace.

I do guest blogging, not through networks like myblogguest, but I contact the webmasters directly in the niche forum we're members of. Sometimes I just contact the webmasters who owned the blog that allows guest blogging. From the blogs I received 30 visits a day, and average 8 - 12 opt-ins. FYI, my niche is not in IM.

    Yes.

To me, it's just a slightly more prominent and responsive form of article syndication.

It can work well only if the traffic you're trying to attract comprises readers/subscribers/visitors of the Problogger or Copyblogger websites, clearly. The more targeted the audience is to the traffic you want, the better you're going to do.

To me, it isn't really how many visitors I receive that matters - it's how many people opt in. I'm an affiliate marketer, so the primary purpose of all my websites is to collect people's email addresses. (I certainly get a few hundred at a time, from a well-received and prominently announced guest post on a site with the right traffic for me).

Surely that's an exception rather than the norm.

You would nearly by hitting six figures if you got each article published once and converted at 1%.

Never mind got them syndicated .

Yes, of course. I get my targeted traffic, my niche relevant dofollow backlink, improve my SERP position.

Alexa, when you say guest posting, do you provide exclusive and original content? Or do you just use the articles you've already got?

Later edit: Sorry, the answer was in your post:

To me, it's just a slightly more prominent and responsive form of article syndication.

No, it doesn't have to be Problogger or Copyblogger, but any site that's doing good in YOUR niche.

But to be honest, it definitely takes time to get your first post published on any of these top-notch sites. Because they get a lot, A LOT of guest posting offers comin' their way. Even when you have got your first post published, pushing through the subsequent posts can still be a factor.

When it comes to guest posting, relationships matter!
