I took the survey. My biggest obstacle is time management. I feel like I have enough information to get done what I need to do, I just get distracted too easily. (Which is why I'm on this forum now.)

I went through the same problem. I started sending a lot more jobs to Fiverr.com as I started to think how much of my time $5 is worth, example $5 equals 15 minutes of my time in a day job assuming I make $20 per hour after tax.

So if the job would take me an hour and I could get it done for $5, so for 1 hour of my time (valued at $20) I could buy 4 hours of someones time via Fiverr.com

    Focus, dedication, time and money.
These are some problems that most marketers here face. The more newbie they are the more the shiny new product and system is a big stumbling block. Or another one which some here know is my favourite, being "obsessed" with seo and not trying to build an long term online presence i.e. a business.
    Rant over lol

SEO, I remember thinking that I'd learn SEO and I'd be set. I blinked and 3 months had passed by, what a time waster.

I got the site I was working on to position 4, I was so proud, then reality kicked in.
I was only getting 10-15 visitors per day and no one was buying the product I was promoting.

I would have been better off using some sort of PPC to test the product, see if the market wanted it.

I took the poll, as a newbie who has looked at IM in the past when creating a new site but never trusted anything enough to plunk down money for it.

I hope my answers are helpful.

Yeah if only others on this forum realised this and stopped wasting their hard earned time and money on this junk the better.
It's all about focussing on how to build a long term business and SEO isn't that for sure, just one algorithm change and it's all up in smoke.

          Hi Joel,

Google is like a spoilt rich girl, lets call her PARIS GILTON.

Everyone wants to date Paris Gilton, because you will make it onto the first page and get lots of free media attention.

Paris Gilton is pretty fussy for a spoilt rich kid, before she will go out with you she has a list of things you need to do first.

          1. Wash Her Car (Clean Website)
          2. Be Well Connected (Backlinks)
          3. Social Networks (Social Media)
          4. In the Newspaper (Press Releases)
          5. Mow Her Lawn
          6. Weed The Garden
          7. Paint the House

And anything else she can come up with...

Then is a few weeks time she has changed her mind and the list will change.

All of this for some free media attention...WTF

It would have been quicker and easier to just go put an Ad in the paper.

I took the survey too (sorry for a bunch of swearing words you'll see there, LOL I really vent!!).

Obviously my problem is time management, since I'm also a lab assistant and doing research. They both really suck my energy and brain. I rarely suffer from shiny object syndrome, since I have a BS alarm turned on all the time.

I think one area many newbies struggle with is getting highly targeted traffic to their websites and products. I think this is usually a common sticking point that many people struggle with

Traffic...oh the obstacle in everyone's way.

I remember the day when I got over the idea that there is free traffic and paid traffic.

There is no such thing as FREE traffic...
You pay with your time, place a value on your time and that's some pretty expensive traffic.
Just us the rate you'd be paid in your day job.

Thanks for the eBook! The survey was interesting and not too time consuming. I agree with what others have said about time management. I'd like to add that prioritizing the time that I do have for my IM biz is also a concern. It seems that there are so many things I should do and I know I can't do them all. Where should I start?

      Hi Eddie,

A technique I've found priceless is making a PROCESS MAP.
This leaves a MIND MAP for dead, because a mind map is useful for getting ideas on paper as you brain storm for ideas because the ideas don't come out in any particular order. I'm not fond of courses that offer a mind map as it lacks the sequence.

Grab some paper & a pen, place the paper in landscape (sideways).
Draw some boxes joined by arrows and place them in the sequence that tasks need to occur, check the diagram.

      Box 1 -> Box 2 -> Box 3 -> Box 4 -> (join the arrow from Box 4 to Box 5)

      Box 5 -> Box 6 -> Box 7 ->Box 8

Now take your tasks and place them in the appropriate boxes, then work on the next box that needs doing to take you to your complete Internet Marketing Project.

      Example:
Product Idea -> Market Research -> Keyword Research ->Product Selection/Product Creation -> Website Build -> Traffic Generation -> Conversation = Product Sales x Profit Margin = Nett Profit

      Summary:
If your working away on your Traffic stage and you get some email about a new keyword tool, you can bookmark it or just ignore it as your past that stage.

This also lends itself to work on one project at a time, unless you have a team that you can assign tasks too.

Make a Henry Ford production line from the process, then just do it again more efficiently the next time round.

I took the survey. Hope to learn a lot from here.
My biggest issues are understanding how this IM thing works to be profitable and time management.

Hey Brett, I followed this thread from previous thread, from someone, who tried IM for over a year, with little to show for it. You had great advice. Plus, took your survey and found my biggest obstacle is "myself".

Sure, there's "101 different ways" to market products and services online, but, if you're not confident in what your putting out, then, it doesn't matter how great the product is. I have written books, created products and services, to enhance people's lives, since 1997, only to fall short, due to limiting beliefs.

Those that don't know the affects of limited beliefs, should know that it cost me thousands, if not millions. I've spent thousands of hours creating and producing "how-to products, to give others a hope, that success can be achieved. However, in my case, when I completed my projects, and was ready to do a product launch, I would "self-sabotage" my efforts and totally lose momentum.

Here's an example of what "self-sabotage" looks like. Say you have spent hours creating a product. You did your research, on the niche market. You find the void or problem people are having and you fulfill their need and wants.

Suddenly, the week you are going to launch, you get confused, you get overwhelm, where to place your advertising? You get afraid of contacting affiliates directly, because self doubt creeps, thinking your product sucks, compared to what they have been promoting, etc. etc. You procrastinate, you push it off and look for the "magic bullet" to market your product and it continues, until, that week of the launch turns into a year or more.

Anyone going through that scenario, must sort out your strengths and weaknesses and find someone (either by paying them or through networking) to help with your weaknesses. In my example, I'd be perfectly fine creating and producing quality products, and letting someone else promote them.

Thanks Brett for your insight and advice.

Yes - agree with David D. But if you've come to the realization that you yourself is your biggest obstacle then you yourself will also be your biggest success driver.

A lot of people seem to struggle with time, overwhelm, lack of focus, too much to learn, constant learning, bright shiny object syndrome and more.

It's really hard when you start out when you feel that everything is essential and you start hording information that will rarely get read and never get actioned.

My advice (as someone who's gone from zero to millionaire online) is this:

    1. Find a mentor
    2. Follow them closely (or just do what they do if you cant get into their programs)
    3. Write a list of what you're going to STOP doing ;-)

    Less is more.

    Hi David D.

In the field of Share Trading there are some valuable lessons in the Psychology of the Share Trader. Its ofter bundled in with the course because as a stand alone topic it doesn't sell, like the books on the topic get overlooked for the books full of technical knowledge.

The reason is is important is the Share Trader often works alone and doesn't have someone around with more experience to talk through the decision with all the information overload.

I've thought that Internet Marketing could do with some similar training as the Internet Marketer also works alone in an environment of information overload.

Its fantastic that you came to the breakthrough by yourself, it's more powerful when the penny drops and you get the lesson yourself.

    I previously wrote this Process:
Product Idea -> Market Research -> Keyword Research ->Product Selection/Product Creation -> Website Build -> Traffic Generation -> Conversation = Product Sales x Profit Margin = Nett Profit

Your strengths lead up to the Product Selection/Product Creation section.
    1. You could find someone to take the project through the remaining sections OR
    2. Find someone to buddy up with and learn it as they do those parts.
    3. Stick with your strengths and build a team to to the other parts.

    Keep up the good work.
