If you ran a micro job site how would you promote it?

As you know the micro job market is full of these fiverr clones, with fiverr seeming virtually untouchable my arm is to work along side them rather than try to over them. (take a piece of the pie in other words).

However, i would like to know what kinda of strategy would you use to promote the site?

i'm looking to target the keyword "micro jobs" at first then when i need to i will target some other keyword if need be.

My site is up and running however no jobs and no members yet... we haven't fully launched. I am currently doing SEO on and off the site and have hired a developer who will add new features to the site.

i have some ideas if you can give me your input that would help a lot!!

+ build backlinks (of course quality ones)
+ offer link exchanges with other similar site owners
+ start a blog about the site
+ articles
+ social media ? ( i done this for a few sites didn't really work much high bounce rate)

anything else you can add to this? thanks for your help in advanced warriors

  • First, figure out the types of businesses that need micro worker services.

    Second, figure out where they hang out online in terms of blogs they read, article sites they visit, and yes, forums they go to.

    Third, position your marketing materials accordingly by APPEALING TO THEIR NEEDS. Don't straight out spam people. That gets you banned quickly. Instead, talk about issues that impacts their needs - ie., the need to find more efficient and cost-effective ways to deal with repetitive low value but high volume tasks, etc.

    Oftentimes, people are already talking about the NEED for your services. You just need to get into the conversation in a respectful, professional, and smooth way. Having a blog that highlights the needs you address and focuses on the solutions you offer is a good first step. SHAPE your blog's posts based on actual conversations among your target market on Twitter, forums, article sites, and blogs.

      What would you say to me targeting the unemployed market? I mean that is huge! and with more and more people wanting to earn an income for themselves i think this would be my best bet and virtually no micro job site does this.

      however that market is full of big companies. I'm sure i can get in there some way

  • As a successful clone owner (for over 1 year now) that now has the clone making an income that I could live off of (and vendors now that live off of my clone)....

    Here is the secret:

    It is going to shock you that MOST PEOPLE DON'T KNOW THIS KIND OF THING EXISTS

    I go on to platforms like Reverbnation and say "Hey, do you know you could buy Reverb plays for as little as $5 from a place like xxxxxx?

    And 99% of the time they write back and go "Nope, didn't know you could do that, that sounds pretty cool"

    That is how you sell your clone.

    Fiverr may appear to be "too big" to you, but 99% of the public out there has never heard of it

  • go where the suppliers and buyers hang out - so forums which talk about business/IM/web design/writing etc (not unlike this one, lol!). post worth stuff and include it in your sig

    this is the long game, but it could be worth it if you generate a slow and steady growth by establishing yourself as a trustworthy and useful member.

    of course, this is just one part of an overall strategy.
  • I would make guides on YouTube showing how to make money with my microjob site and then I would spread it to all of the IM forums.

    I've posted on some job websites and gotten a little traffic some people have joined but haven't posted any jobs on the site.

    Im doing some SEO on the site targeting some keywords. not really seen this many results yet.

    Had some change to my design and also have a video module put in... and a random button + gig extras. and some minor changes.
    Hopefully the site will start getting members i will keep you all updated
  • What kind of script are you using for your micro jobs site? Is it custom or off the shelf? I ask because if it is off the shelf, that might give you a clue regarding how to promote it.

    • Its brought off a site called phpvalley its crap but its the base to my new site.
      I would never run the site just by itself using that script, i like to offer users the best features i can.

      It's being upgraded by me and a developer at the moment so new features will be added

  • You must plant the seeds.
    You must start some fake accounts on your site and offer some jobs.
    This will cost you but you can use it to your benefit.
    You can offer a job to view a youtube video which is yours, or for backlinks to your own web 2.0, or followers to your own twitter accounts, or fans to your facebook page, or ... I think you get the picture.
  • Yeah i agree. But im trying to do it 100% organic. i dont want the site full of crap that nobody will buy if you know what i mean?

  • Fiverr also seem to be doing a lot of banner ads recently which I hadn't seen before. The advice to go to places like Reverbnation for example and plant seeds seems good. It's true the vast majority of the world, despite Fiverr being one of the top 500 websites, don't know about it.

      In the last few days I have also setup a brand new MicroJob site as I have used them for a couple of years and decided I wanted to have my own.

      I thought it would be smart to place some orders with some of the freelancers on Fiverr that were offering services, specifically where they offered to promote my site URL to their network.

      Unfortunately Fiverr did not agree and disabled my account within 10 - 15 minutes of me setting it up and emailed me advising that as I had a similar site I was violating their terms and conditions and hence my account is disabled and In regards to the money I had paid them for the jobs I had ordered, basically I may get some of it back after 90 days!

      Don't know what they were worried about, my site currently has "zero" listings yet as its new and was not a threat to them, now I am trying to work out other ways of advertising and marketing my site to freelancers as I'm looking forward to getting my first listing!

      I joined the Warrior forum to hopefully learn from the Pro's how to market and promote a new site on the Internet.

  • I am setting one up as a local jobsite and going to try and have it when someone wants to join to post a job they pay annual fee say $5 and then can post as many jobs as they wish in the year as unemployment high in my area a lot of job searchers.As it's a local jobsite I am doing it this way to avoid person to person payment bypassing my site.Make sense?
  • Same way as a normal site.

    Blog comments, forum profiles, link exchanges, etc. Generally, if you picked a good topic and have an exact domain match, you don't need much to get them ranked high.
