Hi

This one goes out to Kindle followers...

Basically I have a ebook, the size of which is 41 MB. The size being that big due to color pics inside the ebook.

Much appreciated if I can get good feedback on following 2 queries:

1...What would be best format to upload. I have Pdf version of this ebook but unfortunately I do not have it in Word doc. file. I read somewhere that Kindle does not like pdf uploads.

2...What be a better price point if the ebook is priced £2.99?

You may have guessed it but I am a total novice when it comes to Kindle. Your feedback will definitely get me started in right direction.

    Hi Smak,

You can download MobiPocketCreator (it's free) to format your ebook. You'll be better off if you can get it in MS Word so you can make changes.

I generally format my images to be grayscale (black and white) and also you should go into Format -> Picture -> Compress (using MS Word) to make the images smaller.

I'm sorry but I cannot possibly help you with you pricing. I have no idea about your book, the niche, the quality, etc.

If all else fails, there are some excellent people on fiverr who can format your book for you

    All the best to you!

You can also build it in Sigil and then convert it to .mobi in Calibre. I've done that with good results, and both programs are free.

Pricing seems to depend on the content and category. I would suggest playing around with the price to see what works for that specific book.

    Hi.

Just passing through. Here is a little share:

    • Be aware that 'MobiPocketCreator' is free, however, it hasn't been updated in 3 or 4 years. It works, but if you run into issues when uploading files or converting, stay calm and just repeat the process from the start.
    • Pricing, is directly associated with the value combination elements composing the books worth.
    • For purposes of 'value' example: The niche category value, The actual written content uniqueness value, The demographic audience demand value, The selling platform's pricing grade suggestion possibility, for your profit purposes value, The competition quantity in the book market selling place value, and ultimately your weighted determination, as to how many units you believe you could, or should sell for profit purposes value.
    • Your pricing might I also suggest, should be determined with open book/close book estimations, which account for: the potential for refund/returns due to poor book formatting and/or too low sales
    • Poor campaign marketing scheduling exposure, in lieu of buyer psychologies, or industry administrative sweeps (i.e.: caffeine, panda, penguin).
    • Keep in mind, that your book traffic: will be reflecting your keyword selection, the books title as related to the chosen audience demographic, the books visual friendly graphic chemistry, the sequenced formatted page quantity, summary description, word count information on the books 1st page preview, and, any ancillary promotion vehicles that you set up to compliment the selling platforms internal promotion mechanism

This is just some general Info.

    Hope this helps...

    Tom

I go directly from Word to the Kindle and don't mess with all of those other programs and formats etc. Regardless of how you format though, you want to make sure and optimize your images so they look great but also have smaller file sizes.

PDF's aren't the best format for uploads. You can upload a PDF without problem, but the conversion software does not always format your document as you had it formatted, when uploading from PDF.

Pricing is a value consideration. How much is your information worth to your reader? That is not actually a question we can answer for you, so don't be afraid to test several prices with your book to find the best price point for your book.

How is it that you don't have the document in any other format, besides PDF?

Did you create it? If you created it, didn't you make it in some other format besides PDF, before converting to PDF?

I create documents in Libre Office (the Open Office replacement) first, then I use that to convert to PDF.

I can also go directly from Libre to .mobi or any other format I need.

Be warned that if someone else created the PDF, then you might get into trouble with Amazon for uploading that document on your Kindle account. If you were to do that, you might get banned from Kindle.

Worse case, you can copy-and-paste from PDF to Libre Office, then reformat the document.

I'd listen to Bill about his warning if you did not create the original. I would think you would have the original in text, word .doc or something like that. Amazon does not mess around with duplicate content. Not saying your book is not original, just trying to give you another heads up.

Here's what I've used and it's a time, money and life saver for me. I know people that charge for formatting are going to probably hate me.

Convert Files - free online file converter and YouTube video downloader.Convert videos, audio files, documents and ebooks.

I have NOT converted any PDF to a Word .doc but its worked great for converting Word .doc and other formats into .mobi etc.

I've used it to change TIFF into JPEG as well.

          Cheers,
          Dean
