Mixing Business With Pleasure in Facebook

I see many marketers going big on facebook. But is this using the same account they use to keep in touch with their Nan and other family and friends? My own facebook account is quite parochial in nature and I would like it to stay that way.

Am I right in assuming that you have a completely different account and a completely different set of friends for your online marketing.
Just mulling it over this lunchtime.

I have my own fb page and then I set up a page for our small biz. I did not make them separate because I just didnt think to do that. So once that's set up you cant change it to have them as two different entities...the way around that is to start a new page for your biz that is not associated with your own page. I wish I'd done it right the first time!

Facebook will let you create a fanpage for yourself under a different identity or psuedonym. That's the way mine is set up.

However, if you want a business profile page, I would highly recommend using another account. Creating multiple accounts is against Facebook Terms of Service so be careful.

I don't think mixing your personal and business pages together is a good idea. It can be confusing to your personal contacts as well as your business leads to see a product pitch followed by baby pictures.

Almost always its not just inappropriate to mix business and pleasure but can cause major complications on both sides.

    Hey Ken!

I have a personal page and 4 business pages.

The trouble is, with self employment, the line between business and personal life blurs significantly, so I use mine for both and ultimately it works well!

If have got something personal to impart, I send an email or even worse pick up the phone...

    • You might want to consider what seemingly innocuous information you're letting loose in the world by using one FB account for two purposes.

Passwords on your own sites and blogs can be cracked by gleaning information from your personal Facebook page. It seems people often like to use their pet's name or a variant. I knew someone who used the N number on his airplane, which in itself wasn't too bright because FAA registrations are public record.

Unless you ARE the business you're marketing, I would say it's best to keep them separate.
